I'd rather Mexico win...
That way we're all 'even' going into the cup, and it'll probably help us as far as which group we end up in.
We want to seem weaker than we really are, so we get team to underestimate us... Right?

Or would we rather be overestimated...?

I would like to see Mexico not make the World Cup. Think their style of play is dirty and their fans are trash.

A Mexico - Argentina playoff would be must-see TV.

Mexico take a 2-0 lead on the road, they're on a good run of late after a poor start to the hexagonal.

Why is everyone so certain about the US chances of making the World Cup? With a Mexico win, it seems like everything is bunched together. U.S. still has a tough schedule remaining.

With a Mexico win, US still makes it (assuming they play well enough).
Rather than us possibly being a no.3 or 4... We're no 2.

But only by 1 point. Still seems shaky considering their troubles on the road.

I'm not certain but with four teams fighting for 3.5 spots, the chances are pretty good. Even though the US probably has the toughest remaining schedule of the four I still think they're ~90% likely to qualify. Costa Rica has gotten waxed two times in a row after getting off to such a great start. They should win in Trinidad & Tobago (weakest of the six) and at home to Costa Rica. Even if they draw one of those and lose in Honduras the other teams would have to win every home game and every game against T&T/El Salvador home or away to put the US in fourth. The US also has the second best goal differential of the top four teams.

If the US finishes fourth (unlikely imo) I still think they'd have a roughly 50-50 chance against teams like Ecuador/Colombia/Uruguay/Venezuela. Argentina are still in fourth two points ahead of the playoff spot but if they drop further then that would be big trouble, especially if they've replaced Maradona with a decent manager by then.

edit: Some potentially good news at the troublesome left back position -

I'm rooting for Slovakia to hold ground and not choke the huge lead they have. Together with a couple of other teams, they can qualify next Wednesday:
Denmark with a win + Hungary loss + Sweden loss/draw
Slovakia with a win (vs Northern Ireland) + Slovenia-Poland draw
Spain with a win + Bosnia loss/draw OR with a draw + Bosnia loss
England with a win (vs Croatia) OR a draw (vs Croatia) + Ukraine draw/loss
Serbia with a win (vs France)
Chile with a win OR draw + Colombia loss/draw + Ecuador loss/draw
Paraguay with a win OR draw + Colombia loss/draw + Ecuador loss/draw

Already qualified before this weekend:
South Africa, Australia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Netherlands

Joined the field this weekend:
Ghana and Brazil

Oh, why couldn't he have received clearance 2 weeks ago? Bradley had no other options, but Bornstein looked terrible out there. Still, a W's a W.

I disagree if your referencing the arsenal call. While I dont think rooney was going to do anything with the ball after the tackle, as he kicked it just about into the upper deck, the goalie did come out and make contact with the player that brought him down while completely missing the ball...thats pretty much textbook definition of a penalty in my mind, and about the furthest thing from diving.

For reference, from the same game, this is what diving looks like:

I'm always astonished why people think he's an honest player. Maybe it's just coz he looks like a brute .. but he's a diver. Please see the first link for the latest incident against Slovenia.

Edit: Also, I'm appalled he has the cheek to come out to say he never dives when he has before. And how people accept his words hook line and sinker.

Also, if you actually watch the replay, you can see he is already falling before Almunia touches him. He was playing for the penalty. A clearcut dive? Maybe not. But honest? Please.

I'm beginning to believe that Platini has told the French clubs to do what ever they can to end the dominance of the EPL teams...

a third French team is trying to force a ban on an EPL team:

Le Harve's president Jean-Pierre Louvel says Pogba's parents were paid off:

Quote:
Louvel said: "They got to the parents, it was simple. €100,000 to the mother, €100,000 to the father and a house.

"I don't see why the Pogba case should not set a legal precedent. There was an agreement that no-one should poach young players. French clubs respect that rule but English clubs do not respect anything.

"FIFA does not allow contracts longer than three years before a player has reached 18. We respect that in France, in seems that in England they don't abide by that rule. "

Man Utd released a statement yesterday threatening action if Le Harve continue to level accusations at the club:

Quote:
"In response to the wholly unfounded comments widely reported in the media of Le Havre AC President, Jean-Pierre Louvel, Manchester United wish to categorically confirm that as a matter of club policy and in accordance with the applicable football regulations, we do not offer inducements to the parents of players who sign for the club such as monetary payments or the purchase of houses," said United in a statement.

"Manchester United have today written to Le Havre AC to put it on notice that action will be taken if such allegations are repeated in relation to the transfer of Paul Pogba."

"Manchester United is entirely satisfied that the transfer of Paul Pogba has been conducted in accordance with the regulations set down by the world governing body, FIFA," the statement added.

"Manchester United is ready to defend any claim brought against it by Le Havre at FIFA.

"It is to be noted that all contractual documentation relating to the player's registration with the club has already been fully ratified by the Football Association and the Premier League."

And Man Utd chief executive David Gill had more to say about the matter today:

Quote:
"It's not intimidation but they can't insult us," Gill said at a meeting of the European Clubs Association. "We are not intimidating Le Havre, we have no intention of intimidating Le Havre, they can take whatever action they fell appropriate.

"We have done everything by the book, we are confident in that, they can take whatever action, we won't be insulted by Le Havre.

"It's an insult by Le Havre to suggest that Manchester United and employees of Manchester United have paid the parents and bought the player's parents a house.

"We will not accept the good name of Manchester United being trawled around Websites and the press saying we have done these things we are not allowed to do.

"If they want to take action, they can take action, we will defend our case in the football bodies, we are very comfortable about doing that."

Hopefully Man Utd's lawyers are slick enough that the club escapes punishment.

Now Liverpool have also been accused of child theft, this time by another English club (Crewe) so who knows if UEFA will come down as hard on it.

Liverpool involved in tap-up row
Quote:
Crewe's director of football Dario Gradi revealed on Monday his club had made the complaint and the player in question is 15-year-old Max Clayton.

Liverpool were linked with Clayton in February 2008 and were willing to pay a six-figure sum to take him to Anfield.

Liverpool told BBC Sport they had no comment to make.

Crewe rejected Liverpool's initial approach for Clayton, but Gradi says the teenager now wants to leave the League Two outfit.

He told the Daily Express: "Max has come in and told us that he wants to leave right now to join a big club.

"You worry financially for the clubs where the players are stolen from.

"What sort of compensation are we going to get for all the work that has gone into developing him? Any compensation is insignificant for the effort that gone in.

"It's simple, the big clubs are stealing other people's players."

Gradi revealed the news in the wake of the decision to ban Chelsea from signing any players until January 2011.

The 68-year-old, who managed Crewe between 1983 and 2007, brought players such as David Platt, Danny Murphy, Seth Johnson, Robbie Savage and Dean Ashton through the ranks at the Alexandra Stadium during his time in charge.

Gradi has given his support to Fifa's decision to place a transfer embargo on Chelsea, after they were found guilty of inducing 18-year-old French midfielder Gael Kakuta to break his contract with Lens in 2007.

Chelsea have already confirmed that they will launch the "strongest possible appeal" to the ruling.

Manchester United could also face an investigation after it emerged that another French club, Le Havre, are going to ask Fifa to look into Paul Pogba's move to Old Trafford in August.

"I'm delighted with what has happened with Chelsea," added Gradi. "I would hope all the big clubs are frightened to death. There is no excuse for breaking the rules.

"We lost a 12-year-old to Everton. He was our best 12-year-old. The lure is that the bigger clubs pay big expenses.

"This kid will be getting several hundred pounds a week in expenses. We pay expenses but nothing like that. It's more a case of giving out £20 if someone can pick a kid up en-route.

"At least Fifa have given the smaller clubs hope."

The bigger English teams wouldn't be doing this as much if the FA got rid of their stupid 90-minute rule that prevents teams from recruiting kids from their own country.

Making the laws the same for every UEFA/FIFA country would also help but that's probably difficult.

Ireland are pretty much in the playoff.

US-T&T @ 7:00 on ESPN Classic. US pretty much need 2 wins in their final 3, or a win tonight and 2 draws. Either way, can't play for the draw tonight.

Bornstein's starting at LB again over Marshall at CB and Bocanegra at LB, but with Trinidad's speed it's probably the right call.

Why does Bradley play his kid as a holding midfielder when he scored all those goals in the Eredivisie playing further up the field? Why must he play two defensive-minded midfielders in the middle against T&T and the other non-Mexico/Honduras/Costa Rica CONCACAF teams?

We score on what feels like our first decent move, thank you Ricardo Clark.

Damn that was even better on the replay.

Dempsey stays on, Fielhaber on for Altidore.

dempsey's sucky turnovers are going to cost us before this game is over.

bradley needs to get his head screwed on straight. if he starts screwing around and being "cute" and turns it over then use a sub and yank his ass out. keep doing it till he gets the fucking message
