The good news is that they won't need to do this after Trump wins because it'll be impossible for vast swathes of the electorate to cast a ballot in the first place.

I'm still pretty confident nothing matters, but this from the Archbishop of Puerto Rico is at least a possible problem for Trump.

There was a second box, about 5 blocks from my apt, that was also lit on fire.

And now the chair of the GOP in Puerto Rico is demanding an apology.

Considering the actual joke crudely slandered Latinos, the focus on Puerto Rico is kind of a win for Trump IMO.

Absolutely. Reading the 'jokes' from that event, the Puerto Rico one was the least offensive, which is saying something.

Apparently a CNN panel discussion about the 'comedy' ended with death threats from one panelist to another.

Shocking. pretty clear that the conservative went over the line there. I'm sure Trump can find him a new job.

Don't watch this at work but it's Tony at the Tom Brady roast. It's short, less than 2 minutes. He hits basically the entire room.

I hate JD Vance as much as the next guy, but this analysis of his favorite card in Magic: The Gathering is a bit far-reaching.

Does JD Vance's favorite 'Magic: The Gathering' card reveal politician's dark ambitions?

Quote:
If JD Vance was playing that at the kitchen table against his buddies, then people probably thought he was kind of a jerk,” Kunce continued, describing its “reputation for being a ‘broken’ card.”

“Magic” fans online are known for comparing their favorite decks, which are said to reveal key characteristics about a player’s personality, according to the Independent’s report.

On Reddit, a subgroup for “Magic” players concluded that any deck built around Yawgmoth’s Bargain would be associated with “greed, ambition, dominance, wickedness, the dead and undead, vampires, demons, blood magic.”

The difference between Dems and GOPers.

Seven swing state polls come out, six show a one point lead for Dems, one shows a one point lead for GOPers.

Dems - We're definitely going to lose!

GOPers - We're guaranteed to win!

Optics matter. If Kamala was campaigning with David Duke, I think people would find that distasteful too. You would likely see opposing campaigns bringing that up in black communities. And I think most people in here have condemned Trump for campaigning with white supremacists and bigots. There have been countless ads pointing that out.

So my question is, what is the purpose of this? What is the benefit from putting your campaign in the hands of Liz Cheney? A person who runs contrary to your strongest positions in this campaign (democracy, abortion, equal rights, racism).

It's not just that it's simple. It's simple in a way that does not make sense. There's no reason someone should look at a billboard that says Liz Cheney supports a Muslim ban, and then vote Trump.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say when you mention putting the campaign "in the hands of" Liz Cheney - I'm guessing you're just being overdramatic. I think the purpose seems obvious. It's to show that Trump is uniquely awful to the point that both sides of the aisle don't want him.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Trump started to bounce back after Musk became the de facto VP when they decided to hide Vance. Pretty sure having a younger face for the shit Trump says somehow makes it harder for his people to support.

Anti-Muslim stuff goes well beyond the last decade. What the guy said is indistinguishable from what politicians on both sides and even people on this board have said recently. Heck, CNN's own anchors have been doing this for a year. Trump had a rally the other day with people doing this and Harris is touring the country with someone who formed a PAC to just this like 20 years ago.

The guy is a Nazi (for real, he worked and wrote for a literal Nazi) but what he said is standard fare and was only made a big deal because he had the guts to say it to the guy's face.

There's a ton of them out here. Weird fascist groups and Christian holy war cults. Most are in eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and Idaho, but a few operate out of that Portland/Vancouver area.

The one you're thinking of might be 3N. They were too crazy for the Proud Boys, got booted, and started their own group.

I don't think the goal is to make people change their mind and vote for Trump. I think the goal is to disenfranchise Muslims by pointing out the alternative to Trump is campaigning with an even bigger and more violent bigot.

It's not a big deal to the Harris campaign because I don't think they are interested in those voters anyway. I think the ad is only effective in reminding Muslims in that area what Harris thinks of them.

I think it's called Patriot something which was mentioned earlier. When I was on a business trip to Portland a few years ago there was a big stink about them and protests because the cops were escorting them around the city and they were starting fights.

And yeah, Eastern Oregon and that area is hardcore white supremacist and anti-government grounds. When you drive out to some of the parks and scenic spots, you'll come across signs everywhere for some Cascadia movement that wants to make a separate country or something for whites. Weird shit.

We were just talking about Trump yard signs and how to get them. Well, guess what was sitting in my spam folder this afternoon? An ad trying to sell me Trump yard signs!

I didn't click to see how much, but they do come with a 30 day money back guarantee. I wonder how that works seeing as though you really only need them for another week. Is this the Trump version of buying a TV for the Super Bowl and returning it the following week?

That's why I don't think Musk is helping Trump. He's unpopular and says incredibly dumb things. Just plaster those quotes all over ads for the next week. I think they should have made a bigger deal out of Musk's involvement. This billionaire who has received hundreds of billions in government handouts wants to cut your benefits to enrich himself is a pretty good line of attack.

The Harris drop came when she made a hard turn to the right. She got a boost when people thought she'd break from Biden on some issues but ended up running the most right-wing campaign we've ever seen Democratic Presidential candidate. Maybe it works, but I think that's why she's losing, not because some unpopular billionaire is backing Trump.

Well that certainly be an October surprise, but can't think is true. Apparently though she left NBC somewhat unexpectedly after his Inauguration

Apparently the day a reporter asked Trump about this, was the day when all the hubbub dropped about a potentially campaign-ending rumor. I don't believe it either, but I will enjoy it if it makes its way into the election conversation.

Trotter is a legitimate reporter and the site is just a substack. Nothing shady.

Seems more like he's just throwing out the rumor people were speculating on last week to either stir something to the surface or let others investigate. There isn't much to corroborate it but no one in corporate media is going to touch it even if it were true.

I don't necessarily believe it and there isn't much evidence out there. But Trotter was with Gawker when they reported on voicemail recordings back before he became President where Hall had left very friendly messages. So they were close friends at one point.

I'm just gonna drop this comment in here rather than in Random, no point in it somehow turning into controversy there.

I was simply going to mention that I early-voted in person today and it took a whopping five minutes from parking in front of the building to ballot scanned and counted.

I definitely made some good choices on day, time, location (we have, I think, 7 early voting in person spots around the county). Same place, I'm told, was lined up around the building an hour before opening on Saturday but as a process today was pretty darned hassle free. Poll workers outnumbered voters when I was there about 3 or 4 to 1.

Nice. I went on Friday and was in line for an hour at 2 in the afternoon. Line formed outside the building and snaked around a few hallways once inside. Workers said it had been like that since opening the day before. Younger kid went today and it took maybe a bit more than half that. Of course the county only has 4 early voting sites for 198k registered voters (200k would have warranted 5).
