I believe we have 7 sites (this year, it has varied some) for around 70k registered voters. That said however, the days open as well as hours vary by location. Some are Mon-Sat, others are Mon-Fri only, some 7a-5p, some 7a-7p, etc etc etc

I voted Tuesday around 2 and was in and out in about 8 minutes. People were steady in and out, but very little waiting.

I walked in on Monday to vote and was out within 5 minutes(had to wait about one minute on a machine to empty). 4,600 registered voters in the county. One site.

So Biden called Trump supporters floating garbage.
This is why Harris hasn't wanted him anywhere near the campaign. |

Can't make this up. Kill Tony podcast episode dropped yesterday and was filmed in September. Tony has on a sweatshirt that has a patch of the flag for Puerto Rico on his arm.

100%. I agree with both sides. It is who he is, but you can’t get on stage at a political event and roll his set. It just shows how self aware both he and the team that put the rally together are not.

You'd think next President has a fair chance to appoint at least 1 SCOTUS due to age. I can't imagine working in my 70s.
Kamala is stressing abortion but I've not seen her connect the dots explicitly to SCOTUS. Don't hear Trump playing this angle much e.g. have to maintain SCOTUS majority. Quote:

Exactly. If Jeff Ross was brought up on stage at a political rally, I'd expect jokes, but I'd hope he'd make them far tamer than his usual roast jokes. This is about targeting specific minorities with bad jokes mostly, but it's also about the lack of decorum/civility and coarseness of language that has become acceptable in politics these days.

No he didn't. But the GOP is going to pretend he did. To believe this, you have to not only take the most tortured interpretation of what he said but also ignore the decades-long history of Biden praising Republicans.

It's the most straightforward interpretation of what he said, and that decades-long history is not relevant to what he actually said in this case. Politicians say dumb things and occasionally lose their filter. That's particularly true for older politicians, and Biden has always had more such moments than most.
Ofc it's not representative of Biden's entire career interactions with Republicans, but it is most definitely what he said. We can't (correctly) go after Trump for stuff like the Puerto Rico thing, and then give Biden a pass. Last edited by Brian Swartz : 10-30-2024 at 08:29 AM. |

I mean. He said those words and I get it that of
course the gop is going to take it out of context, all the while clutching their pearls and making false equivalency, but he did say it. |

If you believe the word was plural rather than possessive, but the context around that makes it non-sensical if it was plural.

And then 4 seconds later, he's all in a huff because of Biden's statement. So I guess it's only okay when it's his side doing it. |

Are you seriously not understanding the people running with this do not care about the difference or the context. Do we understand it, of course, but the people that will use this against him don't care. His EXACT words were "the only floating garbage is his supporters." He said those words. He has had to issue a statement, the White House has had to issue one, and Harris had to address it this morning. It absolutely is bad for her campaign. It is why they didn't want him to speak. Maybe he should have said something like "The only floating garbage is the vile and racist rhetoric from some of his supporters" You can't make a statement the way he did that is so open to interpretation. It is a completely unforced error. You expecting MAGA supporters or right wing media to actually explain the context or point out the differences is amazingly naive. They openly will lie and distort the truth. You think they are going to explain away and excuse something he actually said? Last edited by Lathum : 10-30-2024 at 12:00 PM. |

Trump was in Allentown last night and there was barely any word about it other than how it was going to impact traffic.

I have cricket on in the background on ESPN+. If you've ever watched cricket, you know there are a lot of short ad breaks, like 30 seconds. Literally every break includes a Trump ad attacking Kamala. I don't know if it's because we have T-Mobile and it for some reason gives us a Charlotte IP address, but I can't imagine theres a huge overlap between Trump voters and people who watch Caribbean ODI cricket during the day

Speaking of...interesting...ads, I listen to music on the free version of Pandora while I lift. In the last few weeks I have been repeatedly served up an ad telling me I should vote for Trump because Kamala is going to make menthol cigarettes illegal. Not in a list of bad things she's gonna do either, not as a part of any overarching narrative. Nope, nothing else mentioned. It's a single-issue ad, and that issue is.....menthol cigarettes. Um.......ok.

That's simply demographic targeting. Despite being my go-to for my entire smoking history, menthol is primarily a black thing, more than 2.5x as likely to smoke menthol as whites. Some random white chick out there probably got an ad about limiting pumpkin spice.

You said that Biden called Trump supporters floating garbage and he most certainly didn't. The GOP will only make something of it if people decide to accept their nonsense spin. We don't have to do that. Biden's immediate clarification and past make it obvious he didn't mean what the GOP is saying.

Those were literally his exact words and 47% of the country has taken them as such. I'm not the one that needs convincing, we're on the same side but this has dominated the news cycle today and taken the focus off what the comedian said. Do you honestly think MAGA and right wing media is having some thoughtful introspection that Biden wasn't really calling them garbage and reflecting on his statements of his time in office? He chose his words VERY poorly and now Harris and her campaign may pay a price. If you can't see that you're being overly partisan. Last edited by Lathum : 10-30-2024 at 03:34 PM. |

I don't give a fuck what the right decides to focus on. We can just call it bullshit and move on. If they want to spend the next week talking about it on X, so be it, but we can call it out for the bullshit that it is.
edit: And if we want to parse words, et's ook at this from Trump today. They don't care about what Biden supposedly said, they just want to change the conversation. Quote:

So Harris/Walz have released called "Freedom Town." Not sure how I feel about it. a plus for trying to reach out to other voting groups. But a minus to do it in a game where you shoot and kill each other even though they have banned guns on the map.

Who are you going to potentially lose by calling Trump supporters garbage? I can see why insulting an entire island of Latinos is a bad idea, but I don't know what Harris voters would consider insulting Trump supporters some kind of line in the sand. I guess you're potentially losing any Trump supporters that were considering switching sides, but that's like what 2-3 people? I don't think insulting Trump's supporters is going to potentially push a non-voter into a voter, like the original comments about Puerto Rico could.
It's a gaffe for sure, but it's a gaffe pointed at folks who were 100% not going to vote for Kamala in the first place. I can't think of what needle it's going to move...other than no longer having the claim to the high road (a strategy that has been proven a loser over and over and over)

Why does it matter? Trunp says 10 things worse than this every single day. It pissed his supporters off, but who cares? A significant portion of his supporters are trash and dems act like MAGA is some boogeyman they're afraid will be summoned.

It was a gaffe and unforced error by Biden but I doubt it changes any votes. It'll probably be forgotten by this weekend. Harris addressed it and most will just move on and vote like they would have anyway. MAGA will always find something to be aggrieved about.

I currently work in an Army hospital and help ensure active duty and veterans get the healthcare they need every day. Which of those 3 categories would that put me in? Yes, most Trump supporters are trash. I will stand by that statement as long as the racists, bigots, grifters, and general trash are both welcomed and encouraged in MAGA. I will say it as long as J6 is a think that's embraced by MAGA. I'll say it as long a con man that's a traitor the country is your cult leader. Joe is old, and his age probably is the reason that phrasing was clunky. He most likely wouldn't have said it that way even two years ago. But you still have to completely ignore the statements leading in, and the sentence after to make what he said mean all Trump supporters.
