I walked in on Monday to vote and was out within 5 minutes(had to wait about one minute on a machine to empty). 4,600 registered voters in the county. One site.

Kamala is stressing abortion but I've not seen her connect the dots explicitly to SCOTUS. Don't hear Trump playing this angle much e.g. have to maintain SCOTUS majority.

Exactly. If Jeff Ross was brought up on stage at a political rally, I'd expect jokes, but I'd hope he'd make them far tamer than his usual roast jokes.

This is about targeting specific minorities with bad jokes mostly, but it's also about the lack of decorum/civility and coarseness of language that has become acceptable in politics these days.

It's the most straightforward interpretation of what he said, and that decades-long history is not relevant to what he actually said in this case. Politicians say dumb things and occasionally lose their filter. That's particularly true for older politicians, and Biden has always had more such moments than most.

Ofc it's not representative of Biden's entire career interactions with Republicans, but it is most definitely what he said. We can't (correctly) go after Trump for stuff like the Puerto Rico thing, and then give Biden a pass.

So explain to me how you can tell the difference between supporter's and supporters? Keep in mind he also immediately clarified what he meant and has decades of saying the exact opposite of what he's accused of here.

Are you seriously not understanding the people running with this do not care about the difference or the context. Do we understand it, of course, but the people that will use this against him don't care.

His EXACT words were "the only floating garbage is his supporters." He said those words. He has had to issue a statement, the White House has had to issue one, and Harris had to address it this morning. It absolutely is bad for her campaign.

It is why they didn't want him to speak. Maybe he should have said something like "The only floating garbage is the vile and racist rhetoric from some of his supporters"

You can't make a statement the way he did that is so open to interpretation. It is a completely unforced error.

You expecting MAGA supporters or right wing media to actually explain the context or point out the differences is amazingly naive. They openly will lie and distort the truth. You think they are going to explain away and excuse something he actually said?

I have cricket on in the background on ESPN+. If you've ever watched cricket, you know there are a lot of short ad breaks, like 30 seconds. Literally every break includes a Trump ad attacking Kamala. I don't know if it's because we have T-Mobile and it for some reason gives us a Charlotte IP address, but I can't imagine theres a huge overlap between Trump voters and people who watch Caribbean ODI cricket during the day

In the last few weeks I have been repeatedly served up an ad telling me I should vote for Trump because Kamala is going to make menthol cigarettes illegal. Not in a list of bad things she's gonna do either, not as a part of any overarching narrative. Nope, nothing else mentioned. It's a single-issue ad, and that issue is.....menthol cigarettes. Um.......ok.

I get the demographic piece, but I just checked, and only 16ish% of black people smoke, and while a huge percentage DO smoke menthols, we're still talking about a pretty tiny demographic that would care. (And now I'm gonna go check my Pandora profile to figure out if they even know I'm black....)

I'm not the one that needs convincing, we're on the same side but this has dominated the news cycle today and taken the focus off what the comedian said.

I can see why insulting an entire island of Latinos is a bad idea, but I don't know what Harris voters would consider insulting Trump supporters some kind of line in the sand. I guess you're potentially losing any Trump supporters that were considering switching sides, but that's like what 2-3 people? I don't think insulting Trump's supporters is going to potentially push a non-voter into a voter, like the original comments about Puerto Rico could.

It's a gaffe for sure, but it's a gaffe pointed at folks who were 100% not going to vote for Kamala in the first place. I can't think of what needle it's going to move...other than no longer having the claim to the high road (a strategy that has been proven a loser over and over and over)

I currently work in an Army hospital and help ensure active duty and veterans get the healthcare they need every day.

Which of those 3 categories would that put me in?

Joe is old, and his age probably is the reason that phrasing was clunky. He most likely wouldn't have said it that way even two years ago. But you still have to completely ignore the statements leading in, and the sentence after to make what he said mean all Trump supporters.
