Answers to my questions from KWhit
Yes, J23 can heal me prior if I am the one that goes We don't know whether or not he can cast from the sideline We assume that we'll be able to drink health potions mid-battle (interesting answer) |

OK, lets see what spell options J23 has before this battle. If he is able to pick up some kind of defensive spell or a summon monster then maybe it makes sense to throw him in there.
I want to have all the available info in order to figure out which pawn to sacrifice. |

J23: Level 6 (pick 1 additional): You may choose one additional spell from the following list: Heal, Magic Missile, Detect Magic, Light, Read Magic, Mage Armor, Fear, Sleep, Web, Identify, Cure Poison, Summon Monster, Protection From Arrows, Fireball, Remove Curse, Dispel Magic You may choose a spell you already possess which will allow you to cast it 2x per room/combat instead of once. |

I'm going to be out pretty soon but if I am the one you decide to send, please send these instructions:
J23 casts heal on PB J23 or Hoops passes PB 1 health potion Hoops passes PB cursed necklace PB hopes to put cursed necklace on his opponent PB ATTACKS!!! |

HEY, if J23 takes the remove curse magic, do you think the necklace would do the opposite, add hit points to the wearer?

We've got until noon tomorrow, so I want J23 to be around for discussion on this.
I'm thinking either fireball or summon monster would be good options for him to take if he wants to go on the offensive. A 1-2 punch of sleep/fireball seems like it would make life hard on a number of foes. |

I'm here, though probably not for too long.
I think I'll be taking fireball of those spells. The Sleep/Fireball combo immediately comes to mind, but beyond that, it's a new damage spell that is avaliable now that wasn't last level, leading me to think that it may be more potent. The remove curse question is interesting, but assuming that it just becomes useless rather than magical in a good way, I don't know that I'll bother w/ that spell for now. Another interesting spell would be dispel magic, but I might hold off another level for that one and hope we don't come across a need for it. |

Good call on going fireball, I think that definitely helps to make you into more of a weapon.

I guess not - lets go ahead and put the order in to have J23 with fireball + item pass head into battle.

Dola - lets get that order rolling now in the event that KWhit can process it faster.
I was expecting to get more of a "yes, I'm game" response from J23 to go in but frankly it doesn't matter to me. I'll order my puppet to go wherever it pleases me most and at this time I want him throwing fireballs at enemies. I'll even pass him "my precious" to aid in the battle with the understanding that I receive it back at the conclusion of the fight. Failure to comply will result in a very, very slit throat. |

I don't want to cast a heal spell before I enter the cage if it will cut into the number I can cast in the cage.

Cue up Alan Parson Project's "Sirius (Eye in the Sky)"
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now, introducing your 2010 Killian's Killers. Entering the arena, the level 6, the willing, killing, and able, the MAGE IN THE MIDDLE, J23!!!!! And the fans go crazy as the laser show continues, the fog machines pump smoke, and the bass pounds away at everyone's ear drums. |

As each of you waits for battle, the DJ comes on the screen with a message:
"Good luck to you today. I'd hate to have a team short handed because one of you died in the arena. We saw what that did to the Yeasty Beasties." J23 is escorted to the middle of the arena. And then you hear a horrible snorting sound. |

A towering Minotaur strides into the arena. He carries a large battleaxe and... Is that a health potion?
"I am Balaghash! You will not make it past me." The crowd loves it. And then you attack. |

------------ Bal hits! BIG HIT! --------------- Just one healing potion left for J23. He gambles and doesn't use it yet. Bad decision. Bal hits with a CRIT. J23 goes down. He is unconscious. The crowd rains cheers and boos onto Bal as he struts up and down the arena. |

Judgement call on my part. You wouldn't have gotten full use out of the potion, and the only thing that could have killed you was a critical hit by Bal (and him doing near max damage on his damage roll). The odds were very long against that. Of course that's what happened. Frankly, you needed every last HP out of that potion to be able to defeat him so I decided that you would wait to take it. Sorry dude. |

We have 480 gold. Right off the bat, we've got to take all 4 health potions, leaving us 380.
Thoughts beyond that? Rapier is either Hoops or I (and I'm guessing Hoops). The two unidentified items are tempting since our buddy can read the magic (we could buy both). Hoops could use the +1 dagger. Everything else is just a bit out of reach. If you're up for gambling, I would say: 4 potions of health the 2 +1 daggers the unidentified ring |

Not a big deal. I'm surprised to see someone defeated the minotaur honestly given that I was tied w/ the highest lvl player out there, and had 2 healing spells as well as 2 healing potions at my disposal. I guess there are mechanics behind the scenes that I don't get as far as the classes go or something along those lines. |

At least one team stepped up for the battle...
Yeah, I know, I'm dead already... I'm doing my New York area hockey fan impersonation.... just keep picking a team that's still in it... (Go Rangers... oh crap... Go Devils... oh crap...) |

So, EF - here is your chance to play Monday morning QB. Knowing what you do about our team, who would you have sent in for the last battle and why? What were your thoughts on sending in J23?
