I'm glad this thread was bumped. Antmeister and I went through all 5 seasons waaay too fast and didn't get a chance to truly appreciate it. I think it's time to re watch it.
When I hear people say they don't like The Wire, my first reaction is, "WHAT?!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T LIKE THE WIRE?!!??" They get startled and often wonder what the hell is wrong with me lol. In all honesty, anyone who doesn't like this show... I just can't associate with them anymore. Sorry man, we just can't be friends. Anyone else feel this way? Every person I have recommended it to that has watched it loves it. I don't thin I have met many people that don't like it. I've tried many times to get my wife to watch it but she has a stigma against cop shows.

Killed you as in you didn't like it or killed you as in had a great effect on you? I loved having the kids added to the mix.

Finished watching Season 3 a couple of days ago. The Omar / Brother Mouzone pairing was outstanding. 2 of my favorite characters of all time from anything.
Great, great stuff. Gonna give it a few days, then start in on Season 4.

Finally finished up the series last night. Part of the impetus was getting to listen to a WTF podcast that Andre Royo did recently, and also being able to watch the Paleyfest reunion hourlong Q&A that was done recently.
I was glad that at least Bubbles had a happy ending... the scene where he speaks to the support group was crushing. Other than that, I felt like the whole media aspect of Season 5 was pretty lacking. I also felt like the return of the drunken McNulty was a bit pointless, just there to add some color for the show's "star". I found it a great run overall, peaking with Seasons 3 & 4 for sure.

I've been watching what I assume are the HD transfers on DirecTV on demand. For some reason episodes were missing(musical clearences?) So I missed a few in s2 and had to watch them out of order. I dunno if it's ok to speak out on stuff but while I get that Ziggy was supposed to be annoying, he almost ruined the season. Maybe you aren't supposed to watch all 12 in 3-4 days.

I only had one person I recommended it to not like it. Then I told them they had to at least watch 7 episodes. They did. Then they finished the remaining 4 1/2 seasons in a week. |

I think Ziggy was supposed to be the uneducated dock worker equivalent of Bubble's friend Johnny and several other characters later in the show who are so dumb and have such bad luck that they screw it up for the characters who are trying to get out of the life. Ziggy was definitely a sad character and really screwed things up but I didn't find that he ruined season 2. |

I don't think anybody actually liked Ziggy.
His character kind of stood out because seemingly every other character on the Wire was trying to reduce or obscure their involvement in whatever business that character was into, whereas Ziggy was always trying to overplay himself and/or his plans.

So I just started watching this via Amazon Instant Video (I have Prime, so it's free) - I'm in early Season 2 right now. I've heard about most of the plotlines, so spoilers are no issue. Just wanted to say that it's living up to the hype for me.

It's also upped my treadmill time from 30 minutes to 60 minutes, and now I'm exercising pretty much daily.

There has got to be a season six after this week doesn't there? Would love to see Simon tell the story showing the faults of all sides.

I had started rewatching this last week. The start of the second season isn't my favorite and that's where I had originally started watching the show. I nearly gave up on it but am glad I didn't.

Complicated feelings about this person, I guess. Regardless, noteworthy to those who followed the show. Minor character but part of the super-deep tapestry that made the show so rich. |

I am half way through my third watching and it truly gets better everytime. there is so much going on that multiple watchings are a must. So much goes over your head the first time, but once you know who everyone is and how they fit the already great show gets even better. best fiction of any kind in my lifetime.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but this seems like a good spot.
Chasing a killer | The Baltimore Sun Baltimore Sun writer (who is doing a good job for them) gets embedded in with City Homicide unit and follows one case in deep detail. It's a pretty good read. Rather than drop it into the thread about race and police and so forth, I figured this might be more neutral ground. |

I've been on a binge rewatching of this show. It's been a long time, so I know the major plot outline, but I am reliving a lot of the minor dialogue. (which makes this show so special)
Man, what an amazing show. I holds up incredibly well too. Through season 3 of the rewatch. I wish I could go back in time and watch this for the first time. |

The weird thing for me is that I know that everyone loves Omar. I'm 9 episodes in and I'm not sure if I should be rooting for him yet, but I know I should at some point

Season 2 has his biggest "moment in the sun." type of scene and in general his "legend" only unfolds with time. So yeah, don´t fret it yet Cue people lining up to tell you that season 2 sucked ... (i think it was great, personally.)

The whole show was amazing, start to finish. Each season brought something different and they were all amazing.

It's not even a question. Season 2 gets too much shit IMO but it's on a completely different tier than 1, 3, and 4. Think people weren't really ready for season 2 of a show to be so dramatically different at the start from where the previous season ended. If the show came out today, Season 2 would be much better received now that others have done similar things. |

I guess that was an unnecessary apostrophe, please forgive me... multiple Sobotkas = no apostrophe.
But yeah, it was mostly Ziggy. But the other young kid too. Frank wasn't so bad.

Rough choice. But I'd have to go with Season 3 out of these. I think 2 gets unfairly bashed, and I can't cut 4 because of how gut-punching that season concludes. Season 1 sets everything up, so can't lose that. And I consistently had Season 3 as the last one in my order after first viewing, though the rewatch has me rethinking that.

I think it's Season 3 for me, too, and I'm an honest-to-goodness Maryland politics guy. I kinda want to say #1, but that's pretty incongruous to argue, I think.

No way. Season 3 is worth it alone for the next to last episode where Omar and Mouzone gang up on Stringer.

Just flicking through channels, and happened across the episode where Wallace meets his fate. Still tugs on the heartstrings, and a pivotal scene in a number of ways

I signed up for HBO Now for 2 months to finish out Game Of Thrones, but the best thing to come from it is that I'm rewatching the wire. This is actually my first full re-watch. I just finished season 3. My biggest takeaway so far is that season 2 is fucking brilliant and I was just too thrown by the curveball to see it at the time. But I'm still going to rate season 3 better, and I know that I'm not at all prepared for the emotional turmoil that's coming when I start season 4 tomorrow.
I've long since rated season 4 of The Wire as the best single season of television of all time. I'm really looking forward to watching it again and seeing if my perception changes any a second time around. |

I think it is cool that your mind changed on Season 2. While not as good as the other seasons, it was still pretty damn good. I've never really looked at them all separately. The whole thing is perfect from start to finish.

I was playing poker in a casino in upstate NY about a month ago and I heard a dude say "I don't know about cards, but I think these 4 5s beat a full house" so I checked out his table and sure enough he had quad 5s, beating kings over 5s.

Ok, here's the thing. If you want to legalize various minor crimes, that is fine. You still need to create regulations and controls or it is going to get out of hand. Legalize prostitution, but are really going to allow them to work mostly naked on every street corner? Legalize (and tax) drugs, but do you really want dealers on every playground?

Is there some reason you think they won't? Both the article and the State's Attorney are explicit that they are talking about possession cases.
