How do you head butt a ref and not get kicked out of the game?

Yeah, that was crazy. Not sure what even led him to hit the ref.

Clemson just nabbed an INT where a Clemson player grabs it with his right hand, it comes out on the ground, and he comes up with it in his left arm. On review the refs confirm it as an INT. It's amazing how bad refs can be and still keep their jobs.

Michigan will have less than 10 minutes of possession in the second half.
edit: 6:20 if they don't get the ball back.

In the second half, Ohio State's power went out on the sidelines ending helmet communication. I'm sure this is just a coincidence and Michigan wasn't cheating (again). Such a scummy program.

There may not be much to replace them with en route either. I've long lamented the steady decline of officiating at the Georgia HS level but the past couple of weeks have really given me a new understanding of just how bad things are. Seeing utter fuckery in week 5 of the regular season (when there's 200+ games going on simultaneously around the state) is one thing but seeing atrocious work in the mid-rounds of the postseason is something else. The current enormous controversy in the state now making its way through the courts might have been avoided if a capable crew of officials had taken better control of that game at any time in the previous two quarters. And then last night, in the quarterfinal round, I watched a crew basically quit doing anything more than going through the motions once the outcome seemed secure (35-7 mid q3). Late hits, blatant blocks in the back on returns, you name it, they just basically pocketed their whistles & started watching clockwatching. Zero effort at all. And here's why that's a damning issue: playoff crews are chosen by a ranking system that puts them in tiers, better you're rated the deeper in the playoffs you're allowed to work. The controversial game was in the round of 16, so 7 classes X 8 games per, that's a top 60 crew in the state (out of say, 200-300). Last night's phone-it-in gang was have been a top 30 crew in the state. That's top 10% roughly. And THEY were basically shite. They made fewer comical errors than you'd see in an average game but the mistakes made were almost more offensive, just a give-no-shits attitude about 30-40 percent of a game. Unforgivable afaic.

Kentucky 100% could have had Sumrall last year if they had moved on from Stoops. Now he's very likely headed to Florida.

The rumor is Kiffin is waiting till the outcome of the Iron Biwl to make the decision. He will stay another week if Alabama loses to coach the SEC championship. If not, then he is off to LSU. It is interesting he is more interested in a SEC championship than the National Championship.

Simpson average 3.4 yards per attempt helps.
And he might be QB1 in the draft?

Durkin got caught with his pants down right there. You gotta call timeout if you believe there's any chance they're gonna snap the ball.

Kiffin is holding a team meeting at 9am CST. I doubt it is to tell them he is staying. They said the hours long meeting with the Chancellor last night was to try to negotiate a way for him to stay and coach through the playoffs. The rumor is that he threatened to take his entire staff with him right now if they didn't allow him to coach.

Amazing that LSU fired the least likable coach in college football and are somehow going to replace him with the least likable coach in college football. I just can not wait until he bolts from LSU for a new job.

Heupel to Penn State getting some run this morning apparently.
And honestly, aside from the dearth of options that come to mind off-hand, I'm fine with that. The irony will be Penn State moving on from James Franklin for a guy that I believe has pretty much the same problem. I'm 100% convinced we've seen Heupel's ceiling already

Inthink that is a spot on assessment of Heupel. He will be good for a 8 to 10 wins and might get you in the playoffs every once in awhile. I dont know if he will ever consistently win the big games. My wonder is how is that not a lateral move. It seems like Tennessee can give you everything you can get at Penn State. |

Tje next turn in the Lane story. No one but his brother got in the plane with him. Ole Miss offered double salaries for any offense coach that stayed, and they all did. Lane pulled a Jerry MaGuire and left with only his brother.

Dola: They hired the DC Pete Goulding as the permanent head coach. No coaching hunt for Ole Miss. They are going to try run it back without Lane.

Then again, could be becaues pretty much everyone Ole Miss felt like Kiffin leaving ought the have a "must take Weis, Jr with you" clause attached somehow. Exactly zero tears about that departure from anybody.

Among my favorite moments (along with the pic of Kiffie's clothes sitting in the parking lot)
via @Brett_McMurphy An agent sums up the situation in Oxford. “Only Lane Kiffin would burn a bridge while still trying to stand on it,” source told @On3sports

Kiffin seems like an over-the-top character you'd make for a movie about a scumbag college coach. Tough to feel sorry for Ole Miss too. You knew what he was when you signed him up.

I'm kind of surprised at the lack of big names being touted for the Penn State job. I feel like it has to be a top 5 coaching gig in the country. Major conference and huge donors for the NIL era. Jobs like that just don't open up that often.

It's kind of amazing when a guy is such an ass that he can't even fake not being an ass for any length of time. I'm reading a book right now on Pablo Escobar, and even he could manage to give an interview where he could pretend to be a gracious and humble guy. Guys like Kelly and Kiffin can't even get over the Escobar line. |

Most coaches, other than Kiffin, seem to be happy where they are if they feel they're in a good place with good support. They use the interest from jobs like Penn State to strengthen their contract and position rather than move somewhere else a d start all over again. I think NIL has actually made some coaches less likely to move if they have those things because starting over is such an enormous amount of work and building a roster from scratch is a huge challenge. Penn State apparently had all of their eggs in the Rhule or Cignetti basket and didnt have a plan after that. They were telling people that they had their guy lined up after they fired Franklin. Now it seems like they're trying to find a name big enough that firing Franklin makes some sense. |

Coastal Carolina has fired head coach Tim Beck, three years into the job, qualified for a Bowl each year, but was clear this season that he wasn't up to filling the shoes of an winning Coastal head coach.

I want it in my next contract that my future employer will pay me my bonuses I would be owed at my old job if that job keeps succeeding.
Also, there are rumors Jimmy Sexton is steering his clients away from PSU for some reason. |

He has ties or something to the school. The rumor was if he lost the Iron Bowl he would get fired or agree to a separation to leave for Penn State. Probably pipe dream stuff, but they say that was also why the say Kiffin didn't do anything until the Iron Bowl was over. I think it might have be possible Jimmy Sexton had a big Bama donor in his ear tell him not let his boy sign with LSU yet.
