This whole Maddon/Cubs lineup thing is a little strange as I haven't seen the Brewers complaining and only the usual suspects among Brewer fans voicing displeasure. Rizzo/Baez/Bryant are all hurt or banged up. I wouldn't play them either. Maddon's saltiness is confusing but not really when you consider his status, I suppose.

It just gives them an excuse for when they don't win the division.

Had my first experience at Coors Field today, and what a game we picked to watch. We were sitting right behind the Brewers's dugout, and their fans travel pretty well, so we were surrounded. The fans around us were all well aware of the Cubs-Cardinals score on the out-of-town scoreboard, and it made the tense, low-scoring affair playing out in front of us all the more enjoyable.
Lorenzo Cain made one of, if not THE best defensive plays I've ever seen in person, robbing a would-be game-tying home run in the 7th, then we got to watch the home team hit a pinch-hit, game-tying home run off of Hader in the bottom of the ninth, and then see Trevor Story hit a walk-off home run in the tenth! Great game, fun stadium. Last edited by Vince, Pt. II : 09-29-2019 at 12:14 AM. |

Hell of a game for a neutral observer but quite the gut punch for us Brewer fans I guess that whole Cubs' B-lineup thing didn't really play out like it was supposed to. |

Yeah, I felt really bad for all the Brewers fans around us. They were very gracious about it, but that had to sting.

Coors is an awesome stadium. We were there when the Cubs were in town over the summer - I hadn't been there since I was in college, and it's still a great park. |

When the Rockies host midwest/east coast/Dodgers or Giants away fans often outnumber Rockies fans. Some travel but it's mostly us transplants that live here.
It is a beautiful stadium, has held up great considering it's now the third oldest in the NL.

Brewers up 2-0 early.
Flaherty starting for Cards on short rest. 1-2-3 1st inning. Going to be a fun afternoon.

Cards whoop the Cubs today. A big win and a division title.
Maddon puts Zobrist on the mound in the 8th for his first time pitching. Good stuff Skip.

Angels fire Ausmus.
Must be weird having to make that decision after you had the same manager for nearly 20 years. Myself, I was undecided on Ausmus. Again, the Angels were destroyed by injuries and poor decisions with their rotation in the offseason (and lack of major league level playable depth in the farm system, which is pretty bottom heavy talent wise). I wonder if they will go after former Angels bench coach Maddon.

Ausmus was not the answer, but as Chief mentioned, injuries and poor roster decisions did them in more so than Ausmus not being a good manager.

Could an 11 game winner win the CY?
Jack Flaherty was unhittable since July 7 and basically won the division for the Cardinals. I know there are a couple guys out there who were better all year, but for half a season this was THE guy.

Baseball sure can be a funny game.
At the end of June, Josh Hader was 20/21 on SVO Had a weird July where he had more Holds (4) than Saves (3/4 SVO) Had a horrible August, 3/7 SVO Had a hot September, 10/10 on SVO Had a blown save in the 161st game. Had a blown save in his only post-season appearance.

Hard to recall a harder-to-like player in a Braves uniform than Acuna.
9 figure talent, 10 cent head/personality.

Im looking at this Cardinals team wondering how they won their division. On paper this series is pure mismatch. Of course the Braves dont have Molina.

Puig, Junior? His failure to run out a ball while admiring his handy work is not something new to tonight. He's an arrogant prick that is either going to have to grow up dramatically or he'll be gone within a couple more years. He's that hard to deal with. Total brat.

The two are nothing alike. Acuna is so much more talented. How many games had Acuna won this year for the Braves? To be critical when he does something stupid is absurd given how much he adds to the team. He is an MVP candidate for christs sake. I get the stupid mistakes are frustrating, but overall he makes the team so much better. . |

Cards score 6 runs in the 8th and 9th and needed them all. Hang on to win 7-6.
Huge win with Flaherty pitching tomorrow. He has been unhittable since July 7. That was a huge win.

Not if he's a fucking cancer as a personality. And that's becoming increasingly apparent with him. 9 figure body, 10 cent head. He's young, he could grow up. But I'd say that's very unlikely. The more likely outcome will be brat/discipline, brat/discipline, repeat ... and then he'll decide he's beyond discipline and have to be dealt (after becoming even more unmanageable). edit: And at the rate he's going, the fan base will be happy to see him go well before he reaches that point. His antics - because they're not new - are STILL the buzz from tonight, not the persistent failures of Luke F'n Jackson. A player whose play should be the start of a love affair is ALREADY becoming a love/hate affair ... despite MVP caliber numbers.

The Braves manager felt it was a good idea to turn the game into a bullpen game with a shaky bullpen apparently. Keuchel only threw 74 pitches.

Likely thinking "reboot him in Game Four". Agree or not, I'd say that's gotta be the thinking there (especially since Fried relieved later & was the tentative G4 starter) Keuchel has been shaky in three straight starts prior to this one also, which might play into the thinking as well.

I will be shocked if the Cards lose this series now. Flaherty is unhittable. Then Wainwright i imagine for game 3. He has been very good at home. 9-4 with a 2.56 ERA with 10 quality starts.

Player 1: 2 seasons Slash lines: .365/.518/.897 WAR value: 8.6 Runs above replacement value: 87 Player 2: 2 seasons Slash lines .394/.502/.896 WAR value: 9.8 Runs above replacement value: 90 Care to identify the two players? (Yes, the ongoing discussion should make this really easy)

Puig and Acuna Id guess.
Puig was fantastic his first year and a lot of his 2nd year. At that point he apparently forgot how he did it. Last edited by jbergey22 : 10-03-2019 at 11:17 PM. |

Welp. the season continues for Flaherty. Guy is strong and the team doesnt score. He should have at least 16 wins, but whenever he pitched the bats take the night off.
What I thought would be a sweep just turned into a 5 game series win for the Braves. GET ANOTHER BAT MO

It's not the Dodgers postseason without a poor start by Kershaw and Dave Roberts making a questionable bullpen decision.
