A far less familiar saying (as a flip of Blackstone's Law) though one I'm not entirely averse to.

"The story is told of a Chinese law professor, who listened as a British lawyer explained that Britons were so enlightened that they believed it was better that ninety-nine guilty men go free than that one innocent man be executed . The Chinese professor thought for a second and asked, "Better for whom?"

Oh , I can answer that. Society. Falsely imprisoning and killing innocent people in hopes one is guilty is somehow better than one person getting away with something? Do people really think it is better to spray bullets into a crowd in hopes that that they might hit a bad person? How does that even make sense?

You can take away good people's lives, so long as you're taking away the bad people's lives.

You can't however take away good people's guns in an effort to take away bad people's guns.

Makes me wonder what I would do if a 6 ft, 170lb person shows up, late at night, wounded & bleeding asking for help.

Sounds like she left him outside to call 911 and then went outside to help. Good woman.

Ralph Yarl shooting: The White homeowner accused of shooting a Black teen who rang his doorbell turns himself in to face criminal charges | CNN
Quote:
The teen “had to run to 3 different homes before someone finally agreed to help him after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up,” a GoFundMe page started by Ralph’s aunt states.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, told CNN she called 911 after Ralph came to her door, bleeding.

Since the shooter’s location was unknown at the time, she was directed to stay inside her home by the emergency operator for her safety. She said she complied initially, then went outside with towels to help suppress the bleeding.

“This is somebody’s child. I had to clean blood off of my door, off of my railing. That was someone’s child’s blood,” she said. “I’m a mom … this is not OK.”

My hometown newspaper doesn't have a website. They have a Facebook page where they just post the same advertisement over and over again now that the basketball season ended.

The big town to the North (7K) does have an online newspaper site. I'm a little surprised by that.

At least the town to the West doesn't have a website for their newspaper either so my podunk hometown isn't alone.

Our local paper added a website not too many years ago, but it looks/feels like it's from 1996.

There are also a bunch of rape allegations and the Governor just shrugged his shoulders at a press conference. He was drunk but still.

Don't worry. If he is convicted, Abbott will pardon him. This type of vigilante justice is every Republicans wet dream.

Based on the Texas law that allows for use of deadly force to protect personal property in certain circumstances, he may not need to be pardoned. The facts here don't help him, and it doesn't appear that the guy did it to steal the car (just the $40), but that might be enough for "a jury of his peers."

A theme I am seeing in a lot of these is neighbors, community members, etc...all basically are like, yeah, this person has shot their gun, brandished their gun, etc....These are the people who shouldn't be permitted to own them.

Yeah, this is a local story and the guy was known for brandishing his weapon at neighbors and threatening them over trivial stuff. Cops refused to do anything. This was inevitable.

I'm telling you that it's going to be a wild time moving forward in this country. You have a generation of older people who were exposed to lead early in life that are armed to the teeth and being incited by Fox News and other outlets. Just a terrible mix all around. And this guy had a social media history that matches up with all the other old dudes committing random murders.

It won't look identical to The Troubles in Ireland but there's a chance the next 30 years could have echoes of it.

I mean, I saw a story a while ago about something like a Palestinian teen (on a scooter maybe?) opening fire on a group of Israeli Jews...who immediately started firing back. It'll probably be like that. A terroristic state without really being a terroristic state. Republicans see this as ideal, I guess.

Police are going to the gun way too often, but I will say this on the video: that dog came on them fast and hot. There is no way they could know if he was going to bite them or not. I run into situations like this all the time, and I have been bitten several times. Every bite happened within seconds of the owner saying "he/she doesn't bite."

I'm a frequent jogger and I've been charged at many times. This was especially common when running country roads in Illinois Simply standing your ground and assertively and loudly saying "No" has worked each and every time.

I'm sure there are situations with pitbulls or something that would make me wish I had a weapon, but most of the time standing your ground and yelling no works like HerRealName said. I've never been in fear for my life or anything, especially over a Goldendoodle.

The solution in that other case is to not hire raging pussies to be cops.

This, I've been charged at so many times by dogs while jogging, but have managed to never get bitten and never shot one. Amazing, maybe I can train them on how to yell and stand your ground against something much smaller and dumber than you.

For the dog to be leashed or in the owners control in the first place. If you can't control a dog, you shouldn't own a dog.

It totally depends on the situation. When I have been bit, it has almost always been inside someones home. I try to keep a dog in-front of me and stand my ground as others have said. But when I get bit is when a owner won't control a dog, and I can't keep an eye on it while I'm doing my job. Those situations are 100% an owners fault. Their refusal to put the dog away was the problem. When I'm outside, I usually have something on me. I have had to use a tool or a hose on a dog before. I try really hard not to, but if it is me or them....

Pits can actually be babies. I have seen many aggressive Shepherds. Chows are among the most untrust-worthy. Labs are usually not, but i have been bit by a Lab before. Much of aggression has more to do with the dog and its owner than breed.

Thanks. Good to know

My neighbor has 2 German Shepherds behind a fence bordering our driveway. After 10 years, they still bark aggressively at us.

They are natural protectors. You usually don't have to worry too much about them unless you enter their territory. I would not advice jumping that fence. Rottweilers are the same.

The funny thing is, the chiweenie is the fastest animal I've ever seen. She's so fast that she can't stop herself to grab a ball that you throw, she misses it and usually wipes out/goes into 2-3 rolls.

Our first dog was a Dalmatian. I couldn’t throw a frisbee fast or far enough. She was fast and it was beautiful to see her jump, stretch and grab the frisbee.

My current 90lb lab, not so much. And no, she really doesn’t bite, way too friendly to be a guard dog.
