Heh. Has he seen the game? If so, could he make something useful of it? Is he just out to get the code for the lolz? Surprising development.

Hats off to Shaun for the effort. His presence would certainly lend some measure of credibility.

I noticed that the thread over at Matrix said that he doesn't post there anymore.. other than him being a general douche bag, was there something I missed?

I believe the governor was wrongly bleeped as the unedited version of his taped calls showed he clearly stated,"You gotta pay to play MF. You think I'm going to just give that MF away?"

I hear the roadmap for 4.0 is just a metric assload of ones and zeros. You can put them in any order you want. Top THAT for customization!

Just had to post the actual annoncement, that way when/if the game comes out in 4 years we can have a timestamp to the original announcement and then ask how "basic player trades" are still not going to make the next version.

What are "basic player trades"?

Where you trade players who have a low pH level? I have not seen a football game with that feature in it yet. Should be exciting.

I'm impressed that he's trying to include team chemistry, but I don't know if this is what people will expect...

In my surfing around the 'net looking at 3-D game engines, I happened to find one called Truevision 3-D. Imagine my surprise when, on their "About" page, one of the "featured products" created with the engine just happens to be our beloved Maximum Football. You may have to hit refresh a few times to see it featured, but it's in there.

"Maximum-Football is the ultimate football game for the PC. While the rest of the industry is abandoning the PC market for the console world of arcade football, Winter Valley is building a PC based game like no other."

Definitely a true statement.

An update, posted on, of all days, April 1st.

Computer Football Game - Maximum-Football PC Program - Wintervalley Custom Software

Quote:
Development Update - April 01, 2009

Greetings!
It's been a long time since the last update of Maximum-Football so I hope this finds everyone well. As many are aware, version 2.2 was the last version of the Maximum-Football 2.0 series. It provided a number of new features and improvements and people are still enjoying the game to this day. However all good things must come to and end and version 2 had run its course. It was time to take stock of where the game was and where I was personally with the project. Maximum-Football is simply a massive, massive project and it was time for me to take a step back for a while, recharge, and reevaluate.

Since the release of version 2.2, there have been many changes, both personally, and with the game. Even before version 2.0 was released it was known that a major overhaul of most aspects of the game was going to be needed sooner rather than later, and it was decided to make as many of those changes in one go, rather than a bunch of changes spread over various releases. To put into perspective some of the changes from version 2.2;

* The games full source code has been ported from a COM based system to a .Net based system. This involved porting the existing code into the .Net framework and rewriting many of the functions and processes to not only take advantage of improved systems, but sometimes they needed to be recoded to simply work again in the first place. Moving a project of this scope to the .Net framework is a considerable undertaking.
* New player models. The existing player models have been thrown away and new ones have been created. These models have a higher polygon count but they're also more efficient so not only do the look better, they provide for faster frame rates as well.
* New models required new textures. I decided to make those more efficient as well. Maximum-Football versions 1 and 2 used several textures to simply create the jersey. This was not very good use of memory and made custom uniform creation difficult. Version 3.0 uses one texture for the jersey. The new helmet texturing has also allowed for more effective helmet designs.
* New models also meant that existing animations couldn't be reused. Existing versions of the game had their models and animations done in a software package called TrueSpace by Caligari. TrueSpace 6.0 to be precise. TrueSpace 6 has been phased out and support dropped. The new version, TrueSpace 7 (now owned by Microsoft) breaks compatibility with older files. Continued use of TrueSpace for animation meant redoing all animations from scratch. All things considered, the decision was made to move away from TrueSpace for animation. The player and stadium meshes are still created in TrueSpace 6 (it's still a great tool for modeling), but the rigging and animation is being completely redone in 3DS MAX 2009. The tools found in 3DS MAX also allow for use of Motion Capture animations and those are being used where possible (and available).
* New Environments. Not only will the new version of the game be populated by new, better looking and better animated players, but the world they play in is also being rebuilt. Over the past months I've developed a specially built world system for creation environments (this tool works for non-sports titles as well). These newly built tools allow for improved graphical quality in the gaming world.
* New Front End. What good would new 3D be without new 2D screens? Wouldn't be good at all. A new visual style for the game's front end screens is also being developed.
* Beyond the graphical improvements several new features are being worked on. Not all of them may make the final cut based on scope and capacity, but some of these features include basic AI trading, built in Playbooks, improved Play Development System, and new Overtime Features. Online play is still something high on the list of wants but it's a massive task.

That's a short list of the major items to date. But as you can see, much has changed since the fall of 2008. At the moment there is no time table to release 3.0 but work continues...in fact, I should get back at it

Thank you
David Winter

By the way, if you're essentially a one-man show (well, other than your PR genius wife), speaking in the passive voice as if there's an "organization" who could be blamed for things just sounds silly.
