I made this game harder due to the party mechanic, and we only lost two players due to rooms, so maybe I need to scale it up eve more next time. Harder also gave you more XP, which was faster acceleration. I don't mind finishing in four weeks though. You entered one of the harder rooms on DLevel1 and you had an option to flee. Well, when you didn;t take it....

I tried to play like a dick - a stretch, I know - but I also wanted to collaborate with other players so it was mostly bluster. But I did try to shaft Jackal last night and do the room to claim the XP/reward while shorting him. I was pretty frustrated that he and JAG were able to get the reward later that night after I had taken Jackal's nocturne potion and skipped the Djinni (er, Marin?) sale to steal XP. Abe, how much fudging of rolls did you do throughout this game? It sure felt like players (including me) got a lot of good rolls when death was on the line. |

I never fudge rolls. Death is meaningless if I don't. Then Kwhit and Thomkal and mckerney and all of the rest would be quite upset at me, and understandably so. Sometimes I change what is in a room based on situation, if a creature was super easy to kill maybe it won't has as many items, or putting 6 items in that chest seemed like a good idea at the time, but now. Or if a creature was really hard to kill maybe there's more gold or something, but I never cheat combat rolls.

First off, another great job with the Dungeon game Abe.
Why was I so pissed when the Ghouls got me? I had three recipes on me-one for the bow that shot arrows like javelins of lightning-and I had just found the javelin of Lightning for the recipe, another was for +6 to hit, +6 damage two handed weapon which would have been awesome....and the Ring of One Wish. Yes I found what Abe called the most powerful recipe back on day 5 or so. Could have chosen between surviving one death, instantly destroying a monster, and gaining two levels if below 7th level. I probably would have gone with the levels given I was by myself and wasn't really finding anything weapon/armor wise. Arrrgh! I like the idea behind the Ghouls-giving eliminated players a chance to continue playing, but all we really were doing was picking a direction-we didn't interract with the rooms so not much to do as a Ghoul. And if I was going to die (which I almost did at least two times), I'd want to die to something in a room not a now mindless player. |

Yeah, trying to hunt down players based on their descriptions in thread was more fun than being out of the game, but dying still sucked a great deal. I missed the first Dungeon, so it was a real bummer to not do anything in this one.

Oh, and sometimes dice rolls aren't as lucky as they look. Take Darth for example - his weapon dealt 1d8+2. How many times vs the biggie did he roll max damage? Not once. How many times did he roll a 7 and get 9 damage? I think just once. Every attack that hit he had a 25% chance of doling out 9 or 10 and only did it once. She had 120 hp and he managed to take her out with a lot of lower attacks.

The afternoon I got there I tossed around a lot of ideas...dueling dubb, horsing to the room south of there, go to the sale or not, if I go to the sale, do I buy Globe of Invulnerability when I already have three nice 4th level spells but it fills a big need for protection without having Stoneskin, do I buy Passwall which might save me some time but otherwise doesn't help in combat, etc... I finally decided dueling dubb wasn't a good idea because I traded him all those healing potions and I thought he had some kind of magic resistance, plus I would've actually been a little upset if I had killed him. If my spells didn't kill him, he would've slaughtered me in melee combat. I didn't really want to duel Darth if he was at my level (and I thought he was the only one who might be, other than PB who I wasn't going to duel), because if he had acid arrow / cold blast and won initiative, I would've been dead round 1. |

For as big, bad, and evil as you were Hoops, you were also kinda a wimp.
How did I win? I ALWAYS pushed the next level up. I hit level 2 as soon as I was able to and then attempted to move onto level 3 as soon as I saw an exit(ended up in the under dungeon tho). Same thing with level 4. I took it as soon as I could and never ducked out(ok, I was in poor health one day and moved to level 3, but picked up a horse figure @ the sale and promply moved back during the afternoon). Doesn't matter how squishy I am. I have 5,000 health potions. What could kill me?

Based on my experiences and reading some in the thread, I think L1 should be toned down some and L2+L3 should be ramped up. The first level seemed to be too lethal before people had a chance to meet up and join forces. Considering there would've been 4 deaths on D1 but for the pixies and KWhit had overwhelming enemies in 2 of the 3 rooms that bordered his starting room, it just seems like it was rogue-like in its initial toughness. |

The dice giveth and the dice taketh away I also felt like Euplatious hit on more than 25% of her attacks, but I don't want to run those numbers

I think trying to backtrack to find CF earlier cost me. I was the 1st to level 5 and then I did not gain a level in over a week.. . that was costly

If I had to choose my class/race, knowing everything about the game and my own personal style
Human Sorcerer Sis'Sharr Lay Healer Flame Kin Artificer Would have been my choices. Prolly Sorcerer or Artificer. Prolly Human Sorcerer. Human XP advantage fights your slow XP chart. Then combined the awesome power of healing with the awesome power of beating. RAR!!!

I thought about going full caster, but the xp chart seemed to hurt. I loved the wizard spells, it was just hard to get the ones you wanted.

I think the Lay Healer is a secret tank of massiveness and bhlloy was realizing it. Expertise and Toughen make clerics able to solo things, and the Lay Healer with Expertise and the armor of a Myrmidon doesn;t even need Toughen, which is subtly what makes them so good - able to use max armor and shield. Lay healer doesn;t waste a turn to heal, and has the HP and Attack ability of a fighter. I almost dropped Expertise from the cleric list because of the Lay Healer's ability to break it, and even though a lot of clerics went in that direction, I don't think it was that bad.

And Sorcerer counters that by having no issues with spell selection. A Sorcerer with Magic Missile can kill a few small creatures, level up, take the powerful Cure, and you are in the money, you know? I want to give the back three more power with more spells next time. I already know a few more classes I wanna add.

I tried to make every class have something really good about it. Druids as a fighter get more attacks than any other, berserkers constantly berserk, paladins self heal, Rangers have the cool bow, sorcerers can use both realms, bards have Lore and ID'ing stuff for free, assassins pick and disarm and search well, priests heal, lay healers really heal, you know - etc, etc, etc.
