A&M is beating them at the line pretty good, getting very good push on some plays, bringing an extra man on others.

Yeah, watching that last series it is definitely the blocking. Young isn't getting a chance at all.

Bama's defense has definitely been solid this second half. If A&M doesn't start moving the ball, they are doomed.

It is always tough watching Cinderella teams turning back into pumpkins. It is like a switch flips, and suddenly Alabama remembers who they are.

What the actual crap was that Nebraska? Fumbling away a great chance for a win. Probably should have beaten Oklahoma, definitely should have beaten Michigan State, comeback here in the second half, moving the ball virtually at will, tie game at home and .... *crunch*

Notre Dame survives. ESPN's win probability cracks me up sometimes. After the game-winning FG that put them up by 3 with 17 seconds left, it still gave VT a 30% chance of winning.

Michigan escapes Nebraska 32-29. Whatever karmic retribution, balance in the force, or whatever else Scott Frost owed for the '97 Missouri-Nebraska game I think has been paid and then some. Cornhuskers should be 6-1.
This is Michigan's dodged bullet for the year, unlikely they'll get another. Get a week off to consider it, and assuming no unexpected egg-laying occurs, Sparty will get to ruin our year in three weeks. Both teams should still be unbeaten at that point, only Northwestern and Indiana can prevent it and well ... neither looks capable. Last edited by Brian Swartz : 10-09-2021 at 11:31 PM. |

I don't think it will, but even though Alabama looks like they're going to survive this, a second close shave and being behind most the game should knock them out of the #1 spot.

Did anyone else have that little frissom of fear as the clock went from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2.. with no time out called? I was like "NO, they couldn't screw that up, could they?"

I rooted for Jimbo to win because it was for the greater good.
Also, I'd be happy if FSU scheduled UNC with Mack Brown coaching 12 weeks a year. He's now 0-11 against his alma mater, including 0-8 at UNC.

Wouldn't this be a problem if they cheered every time an opposing player got injured? They were booing because it appeared it might be a tactic, as it happened only(?) after Iowa made a big play, to slow momentum. Coincidence? I'm sure it was but, it was enough the announcers commented on it and the crowd picked up on it too. |

Starting to think about the final four.
GA is in if they win out or if they only lose in the SEC Championship. OK is in if they win out, but even a single loss probably leaves them out. The B1G Champ is in with zero or one loss. That would leave AL and Cincy fighting for the last slot.

Happy that AL lost, hope they lose another 1 (or 2) down the road and to GA in the SEC Championship. Good to see GA #1 this week.
Aggies and Longhorns did well so that helps. We beat the spread with Ole Miss. Hope this means we won't drop too much in the rankings. But we need to take care of business and win against Auburn next week. Can't complain about our offense but would not have expected our defense to crumble like that. Maybe still smarting from the GA whupping. We need to get our act together. Last edited by Edward64 : 10-10-2021 at 10:31 AM. |

Mark Freund on Twitter: "We know Penn State had some legitimate injuries in this game, but this 54 seconds of video was especially entertaining.
I believe this player walked off the field shortly after this clip ends... Let's just say the Iowa coaching staff wasn't buying this one.… https://t.co/Bh9j5gpqLW" Iowa coaches not happy when #17 takes a dive, as he was the 3rd PsU player to do this after a big Iowa gain.

I read that Alabama's loss was their first against an unranked team since 2007, breaking a 100 game winning streak. That's astonishing for a team with a target on their back to go 14 years without losing to an unranked team. We might not see that again in our lifetime.

They still need help though. Georgia, Iowa, Oklahoma all control their own destiny. Bama is the 4th team that controls their own fate, winning out from here would mean an SEC title. The next two in order are probably Penn State and Cincinnati (Penn State winning out from here would kind of impress me, now that I looked at their schedule) Oregon would need to win out AND have at least two other teams in that group lose.

Whoever wins the B1G East, if they also win the championship game, is in. There will be five B1G teams in the top ten this week, and the four teams in the East all play each other. If any one of them beats the three others and then beats an undefeated Iowa in the championship, they will definitely be in the final four.

But that does require help, everyone I mentioned still controls their own destiny more than Oregon does. I wasn't saying they had no chance, simply that they could win out and still miss the playoff.

Georgia, unanimous number 1. I just saw that and stared. I couldn't stop looking at it. It isn't just because this is the first time that UGA has been number 1 in the regular season since Hershel Walker was still running the ball between the hedges. It just doesn't feel right. Maybe it is because I am too close. Maybe it is Georgia sports derangement syndrome, because we have been burned so many times. I just can't help but feel it is too soon, and not justified. Why?
1) No question this defense is something special. Yet, there have been elite defenses at Georgia before that have failed. This front seven is probably deeper than any have been before here. It probably legitimately goes not just two deep, but three deep. Yet, beyond the front seven is not that impressive. Quality, but not elite and definitely not deep. Fear of that being exposed is real. 2) This is the most offensively "meh" team Georgia has had since the final year of Richt. The o-line is a work in progress. It looks like that they are starting to mesh, starting with the Arkansas game. They still are not a position of comfort, and are also not very deep. That is another real worry. 3) When was the last time a national championship team was lead by a under-sized walk on quarter back? Stetson Bennett was completely exposed last year versus Alabama. His "smart moxy" can't overcome being chased by 6'4 linemen that are faster than he is. What is going to happen when team really gets some regular pressure on him, which could be as early as this week versus Kentucky? I am just not convinced UGA can win a national championship only throwing the ball 12-14 times versus a major defense. Maybe this is all just a natural defense system so my heart has been broken too many times, but instead of being excited I am just getting more anxious. Have I ever told you I am a bit of a worrier? |

I agree, and also note it’s kind of funny that Georgia is one of the few SEC teams that has any semblance of a defense now. For years, the Big XII was ridiculed for their lack of defense, but in retrospect a lot of that perception was due to Big XII QB’s and offensive philosophy, while Nick Saban and Les Miles were ramming it down people’s throats with journeyman quarterbacks throwing 15 or 20 passes a game. |

That's simple: I stopped with teams ranked ahead of Oregon. Going far enough to include Kentucky would have forced Mich State and Okl State into the list as well.

To me, Georgia as unanimous #1 is a no-brainer at this stage. That doesn't mean that GrantDawg's concerns aren't valid, but everyone else has bigger issues. The score the last two weeks, one home and one away against quality opposition, is 71-10 combined with a backup quarterback. Nobody has scored more than 13 on them, and since the opener against Clemson they've not failed to score at least 34. That's a huge gap no matter who you're playing. Nothing anyone else is doing comes close.
