Look at saints offense with taysom hill vs without. Hill covers Carrs biggest weakness. Without him they lose

Heh. There was an argument among Saints fans over whether Dennis Allen was the worst coach in the league. And the counter argument was "He can't be the worst b/c Robert Saleh is a coach"

I guess DA is the worst coach in the league now.

I guess he should have done his own research on a 40 year old QB coming back from a full year off.

If so, they should have fired him before the Broncos game.

DC Ulbrich is the head coach now. Would have been hilarious to make Hackett coach, he was so god awful in Denver.

That is an interesting pseudonym Aaron Rodgers has chosen for his head coach persona.

heh I started watching my recording of the dallas pittsburgh game. It was rain delayed. It was wild seeing just how much rain. Making waterfalls down the stairs. Do they have like water vacuums to soak up the water on the field? THere were no tarps.

With Drake Maye now the @Patriots starting QB, four of six first-round QBs are in. And I've updated my chart, showing when every first-round QB going all the way back to 2000 got his first start.

As you'll see here, 2008 (Ryan/Flacco) was the turning point. pic.twitter.com/RRUovpogFj

In 2021 there were 7 NFL head coaches hired:

Brandon Staley (Chargers) - Fired!

Urbs (Jags) - Super fired!

Arthur Smith (Falcons) - Fired!

David Culley (who?) (Texans) - Fired!

Robert Saleh (Jets) - Fired!

Nick Sirianni (Eagles) - Doesn’t talk to his QB, can’t coach without Big Dom on the sidelines, and will soon be fired!

And….

Dan Campbell (Lions)!

As things stand now, it looks pretty clear all as to who won that coaching cycle.

Saleh’s about to get a wake up call on full time co-parenting this week. It can’t be easy getting 7 kiddos ready for the school bus. Prob makes dealing with Aaron Rodgers a cupcake by comparison.

I find it funny that Eric Mangini essentially called the firing last week, although not directly, by pointing out that Johnson, former US ambassador to the UK, would be pissed off about a loss in London because it would happen in front of all the friends he invited.

The Jets did a nice job on defense. They should have won that game, but the interceptions made a big difference, as did the lack of a running game. I'm not that impressed with Darnold, but I am impressed with everything else Minnesota is doing.

You look at the three Jets losses, and you see no rushing attack at all. They're putting it all on Rodgers' arm. The last two weeks combined, 32 non-Rodgers runs for 74 yards. It looks like the book on New York is to make Rodgers beat you. In his prime, that would have been ill-advised.

I'm not convinced it was time to fire Saleh. The Jets had a chance to win in the closing seconds and it came down to a last-minute interception at the Minnesota 9. But you can't fire the quarterback these days - there's no one to replace him.

Can't fire the owner in Cleveland. The Deshaun Watson trade and contract makes the Herschel Walker trade look like nothing. I don't know which was worse - the trade or the contract.

Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, Minshew is out and O'Connell is in again. Minshew seems like the ultimate backup quarterback. I'm reminded of Fitzmagic there. He's been very steady. O'Connell wasn't good last year, that could be rookie struggles. But I don't see him as starting material, either. Can you have a good offense if you have two of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL?

Two deep is in favor again... interesting. I am seeing a slight increase in short passing this season, but it's in line with the usual year-to-year fluctuation. It really is a small change. Scoring is actually up a little from last year, but still a bit down from past heights. I'll emphasize that these are all very small changes.

Robert Saleh wearing Lebanese flag on sweatshirt in London game played factor in Jets firing, radio host says | Fox News

Wasn't Jets owner Woody Johnson the ambassador to the UK in the Trump Administration? This seems on brand, then.

The problem with firing Saleh is that he's a defensive coach and the defense wasn't the problem. The problem has been the offense and they weren't going to make Hackett the HC which would then allow them to hire a new OC. They also aren't going to fire Hackett and piss of Rodgers. Saleh doesn't appear to be a good coach but this seems like a temper tantrum firing that has a far greater likelihood of making the team worse.

The reality seems to be Rodgers is old and looking old. LaFleur extended his career a couple years but he's not the same guy and building an offense around him while expecting him to look like an MVP was a bad decision.

It is still really funny that Rodgers decided the Packers were not well enough run so he decided to join the New York Jets of all teams. Like I'm sure the Packers have their issues, but that organization seems fairly well run compared to the Jets.

I suspect the main problem with the Jets' offense is that the game has passed Rodgers by and he's stubbornly calling the same shots at the line that worked for him a decade ago but which defenses have now been designed specifically to nullify and he's too stubborn to change and/or too egotistical to admit he needs help.

Plus, he's clearly inaccurate and still trying the low-percentage throws that he used to be able to make all the time because he was so talented (and routinely making low-percentage throws was what made him so difficult to defend).

Nothing short of an intervention by someone he trusts (so RFK, McAfee & Rogan) is going to change this. The Jets are fucked. Time to man up and cut him & Hackett and start fresh.

Did anyone else watch the NFL Network replay of last night's game? I think they skipped a couple drives in the 4th quarter, including Seattle's drive after the miffed punt. So they went to commercial as the replay was going on, and after I FFed through the commercials, they came back to San Francisco with the ball at like their own 15. So I had to decide that Seattle kept the ball from the miffed punt, then punted back to SF. So confusing.

They ruled the ball wasn't touched, Seattle kept it. The league apparently didn't have the better view that Amazon had.

Right, I saw that later. I don't get why the NFL Network chose that part of the game to skip, unless I screwed up something in my fast forwarding.

Trevor Lawrence has got to be the biggest bust of the social media era right? Was supposed to be can’t miss - irrespective of how dysfunctional the Jags are, he’s just not able to process and make NFL throws on a consistent basis.

That's fourteen points left on the board from very catchable balls. This isn't on Trevor Lawrence (the defense deserves some time in the Tower of London for the stupid penalties today)

edit: ANd that's the THIRD TD dropped.

He played a bit better after I posted that, but had missed enough throws by that point that they were out of the game. And that’s really the story every week, he just is not consistent and makes too many mistakes.

At best he’s in that 15-20 range of QBs, maybe even lower which is just a crazy outcome for the best QB prospect in a decade.

Yeah, I'm getting tired of being the Lawrence truther, always pointing out someone's drops and someone's mis-run routes, etc. At some point, the "buy low" wears out I guess. Feels like we may be there with Lawrence, he just doesn't have some of the intangibles. Kinda like a closer with an unhittable fastball and wicked sinker but who just doesn't have the guile, somehow, to handle the role.

Something definitely seems off with Lawrence. He didn't looked good today. One pick with one more, maybe 2, others dropped. He has a lot of checkdowns which is usually a red flag that he may not seeing the field well enough. He doesn't have high end weapons but they're not hurting there.

He's a sum doesn't equal the whole of the parts QB.

I'm starting to think the Browns' owner was involved in the intimate facts of some or all of those Watson allegations and, similar to how a murderer might marry someone who knows where the bodies are buried, he went out and bought Watson to keep him close. But Watson obviously knows where the bodies are buried, so he is the starter until he decides he's no longer wants to be. Similar to wifey getting an unlimited credit card account.

Watson's QBR is 20. That's insane. The only qualifying QBR I could find that was lower for a season was 2010 Jimmy Clausen who completed 52% of his passes with 3tds and 9ints on 5.2 yards per attempt.

Goff was awful as a rookie as well, but didn't have enough attempts to qualify.

Lawrence has perfectly captured the ethos of the franchise quarterback on the verge of doing something spectacular.

At every single stage of his development, you can look at his work and say, "he's going to be great some day." And that day is always just around the corner.

In the meantime, he's closing in on a quarter of a billion dollars in guaranteed career earnings and he's just good enough to hold onto his job without any chance of losing it.

1. I've watched it several times now and I still don't understand how Mark Andrews got that wide open (late 3rd quarter).

2. Derrick Henry is inevitable. Those two rushes (also late 3rd quarter), the second of which got him into the end zone, well, it just seemed like he was getting into the end zone regardless. Kudos to the O Line, too.

Caleb Williams is 3tds away from setting the Bears rookie record for TD passes with 12. The current record holder is Charlie O'Rourke who set the mark in 1942 and then spent the next 4 years in the Navy.

I've never heard anything along those lines. Jimmy Haslam has been a very successful businessman (he owns all the truck stops in the entire universe, apparently). He seems to be one of those guys who doesn't hear the word "no".

I think he's obsessed with bringing the Browns their first Super Bowl, and was somehow convinced that Deshaun Watson could do that and Baker Mayfield could not. So ignored every warning sign out there, the biggest being that Watson did not honor his contract with the Texans.

Haslam decided to prove to the rest of the NFL that everything has a price, as long as you're willing to pay it.

There's no question that Watson has the talent to win and before the big contract and subsequent shenanigans, it looked like he was going to be one of the top players in the game for a long time.

Now, he probably couldn't get a backup job because of the massage therapist stuff and (more importantly) because he isn't getting it done on the field - not even close right now. There probably has never been a clearer case of someone who made it, then threw it all away because he believed the press clippings.

I'm not sure he can't get it back. He's playing like a guy without confidence, holding the ball too long, not trusting his teammates. It must be very frustrating for Stefanski.

Spencer Rattler has been pretty solid so far. Made some good throws, and been able to use his legs to extend plays.

Edit: And like clockwork, I post that and he hangs up a pass that is picked off.

If you want to illustrate the "familiar with" concept in the NFL, you'll never get a better example than Shepard's last two end arounds for Tampa Bay. Defenses have a recency bias that works almost mathematically.

Well, his father built the business (originally known as Pilot Corporation). Jimmy's a nepo baby who grew the business (after it was already quite large) by using PE money and then merging with Flying J. Between them, Pilot & Flying J own a vast number of truck stops nationwide (you'll notice them whenever you're doing a road trip on an interstate).

I'm not saying he didn't do good work, but the tough part was building the business, and his father did that.
