Miami runs a REVERSE on 2nd and 9 - Freshman Ian Lynwood and Herman Sanderson combine to push Henry OUT OF BOUNDS - one yard loss.
3rd and 10, 34 seconds left.

Big, big play here. Does Miami risk it and go for the throat by attempting a pass (and perhaps give us another opportunity to stop the clock without using a timeout)? Or...do they play conservative and run?
Fortunately for them....if they punt on 4th, we're guaranteed pretty awful field position. 3rd and 10 at our 47....

They play conservative - Hoover runs offtackle and loses 2 yards. Leslie Davis and Neal Hollins combine for the stop.
NC STATE timeout (we have one left). 4th and 12 at our 49, 26 seconds left.

29 yard punt that rolls out of bounds.
NC State ball, 1st and 10 at our own 20 yard line. 17 seconds left in the game.

1st and 10 from our 20...
Pass over the middle is complete to Kenneth Wertz for 17 yards. NC State calls time out. 1st and 10 from our own 37, only 7 seconds left . Damn, I'd like to have that stupid draw play back on our last drive.

Probably the last play of the game...
Amaya fades back and throws to Wertz, but it's defended easily by Miami's Murray. Miami is in a 3-deep nickel package. We have 2 seconds left. Last play of the game, coming up.

Btw - Amaya is 24 of 39 for 317 yards.
Ok...please fire me. I call a draw play. Amaya gains 5 yards and the game is over. Final Score: Miami 34, NC State 31

It's heart breaking, but considering that we stuck with the #2 team in the nation for 4 quarters, I think that we did pretty good . . .

I agree - I really felt that if we had more time, it was just a matter of time before we beat them. We just got down into too far of a hole (17-0) and that interception leading off the 2nd half killed us as well.
Other than that...I almost think we took it to 'em. Our next game is scheduled for Tuesday at #24 Clemson. I'll be out of town, so we'll have to play it on Wednesday, if that's ok.

Boy...you sure know how to "draw" a game description out....
Ok that was really bad. That was easily our most exciting game of the year. We have nothing to hang our heads about.

I'm still following... but my role isn't all that important.
Maybe it's time for some more thought on recruiting: The next week we ought to learn a lot - week 10 always seems to be important. It might be a good time to take a look at any quality player at any position who is not visiting a school yet - I have had success in weeks 6-10 or so trying to double back and target that kind of guy -- if they don't have any offers, get in, visit and call, and make an offer right away. (QB especially) |

Sweet guys, thanks. In the near future I'm going to be building an official homepage for the Groupthink. Hopefully, it'll make it a little more fun for everyone, and there will be a lot less file swappage if you guys can just go to the site for updates.

Yes - sim was pushed back because i was out of town on Monday and Tuesday. I have a DR. appt. at 2pm today...so the game probably will not have as much detail posted (here's hoping that it's not a barn-burner like last week). So we dont lose the schedule of 2 games a week, I plan on simming the next week on Friday and then go back to our Monday-Thurs. schedule.

North Carolina State (4-3) at #24 Clemson (5-2) (-10), TV5
Weather: 65 degrees, Sunny N.C. State wins the toss and elects to receive. Kickoff is a touchback, N.C. State begins on their own 20. 1st and 10 at the 20. On first down Amaya throws in the flat to Macri for a 7 yard gain. 2nd and 3. Macri gets the carry on 2nd down and gains 2 (Nathan Matthews was knocked down by the Clemson defender). 3rd and 1. Macri runs off right tackle and gets a KRB by TE Jack Mackie, pickup of 5. 1st and 10 at our own 34. (time to run to the doctor - be back soon)

We pound the ball inside, but eventually the drive stops at our own 47. Time to punt. Nice punt from McCarthy pins Clemson down to their own 9.
3 and out for Clemson, highlighted by a delay of game penalty by Clemson and a C.J. Schmaltz QB hurry on 3rd and long. Horrible punt by Clemson is returned to the 34 by Kenneth Wertz. Great field position!

A run by Macri (5 carries for 23 yards) and a couple of nice passes gives us a 1st and goal at the 4. However, we're then hurt by a poor run and a sack. Our 3rd and long to Brodie fails, 4th and goal at the 15. Allen gives us a 3-0 lead via a 32 yard FG.
N.C. State 3, Clemson 0 - 4:26 left in the 1st.

Getting some database errors as I post these...
Clemson's ensuing drive is going nowhere, until they get lucky on back to back passes of 49 and 19 yards down to our 2. Money completes the pass to Swearingen for the 2 yard TD pass on the next play. Clemson 7, N.C. State 3 - 1:58 left in the quarter We answer right back after the touchback on the kickoff. Amaya finds Trent Brodie open on the fly pattern and connects for 32 yards. Clemson territory. Linquist gets 10 yards on a pass, but then the drive stalls at the Clemson 35. I'm also getting some messages about our offensive line getting uprooted - this doesn't bode well for us. We go for it on 4th and 7 and Amaya and Wertz combine for the first down via a 10 yard pass. 1st and 10 at the 25. 5 plays later, we're in the end zone - Amaya to Brodie for the 3 yard TD pass! Macri has 21 yards on 9 carries (he's starting to get stuffed at the line) and Amaya has been forced to scramble a lot. My impression is that we're not winning the trench war, but we're riding the hot arm of Amaya as well as a talented group of receivers. N.C. State 10, Clemson 7, 12:08 left in the half.

Highlights now...as we're way behind schedule...
Clemson starts their next drive and they go deep on first down, but it's intercepted. On the ensuing drive, we move the ball a little until Justin Amaya SCRAMBLES for a 45 yard gain to the Clemson 30 The drive ends in yet another Trent Brodie TD reception, this time 8 yards. 9 plays, 81 yards, 4:47 off the clock. NC State 17, Clemson 7 - 6:40 left in the half

Clemson's drive gets stopped at their own 34...an okay punt of 35 yards paired with a nice return of 15 yards by Kenneth Wertz gives us the ball at our own 46 with 3:15 left in the half.
Our drives goes nowhere, and we head into the half leading, 17-7. First Downs: NC State 13, Clemson 4 Rushing: NC State 82, Clemson 25 Passing: NC State 141, Clemson 70

Clemson begins the 3rd quarter with the ball. Pinned, they need to throw on a 3rd and long - the pass is picked off by Ralph Spaulding and gives us the ball at the Clemson 30.
Unfortunately, we're not able to gain a yard and our 4th down attempt at a first down is rebuffed. Ball turned over on downs.... Later in the 3rd, another Clemson turnover -- we convert it into a FG for a 20-7 lead. After another failed Clemson possession, we take the ball for 12 plays, 83 yards and 5:33 off the clock and end in a 4 yard TD pass to Jack Mackie. NC State 27, Clemson 7 - 2:19 left in the 3rd. We've outgained Clemson, 313 to 95.

2 plays later....another Ralph Spaulding interception - NC State ball at their own 46. We've outgained Clemson, 384 to 108.
Ugh....a sack and lost fumble on the next play. Clemson ball at our 41.

Clemson kicks a harmless FG, cutting our lead to 17. On the next play Donald Clark is injured, but it doesn't appear to be serious - phew!
Another interception by NC State - this one by Jorge Montgomery. NC State ball at their 28 with 4:20 left in the game. This game is over....another thorough beating... Final: NC State 27, Clemson 10
