Last I read he was working on the Blood Meridian script treatment, and I doubt anyone else could do it justice, so that is a bummer.

Tony Bennett has died at 96. He stood out to me as one of the (very) old guard who worked with artists of any age and genre as he grew older. RIP.

Before my time during his prime years. But yeah, I liked how he could do duos with contemporary artists e.g. Lady GaGa.

I listen to a "Smartless" episode where they did a long interview with Paul Anka (he is Jason Bateman's father in law). Those guys of that generation were something else.

RIP.

She did have a great voice. Don't know about crazy but she did have internal struggles (wouldn't be surprised if it was self-inflicted).

What could have been if she just stuck to singing. Hope she finally at peace.

Wow. He was 70. Had no idea he was that old. I guess him playing a kid for so long affected my sense of that.

Last time I heard him speak it was on a podcast and he sounded like he was going through something. He will always be remembered for his sense of joy and innocence.......and liking to pull his willy in adult theaters.

Do you mean it overshadowed his career, or that it wasn't accurate? Because wanking it in a public place is kinda illegal, and certainly salacious when it comes to a kids entertainer.

Overshadowed. I'm pretty sure he plead no contest to that charge. I always had the impression that the media made a mountain out of a molehill over the whole thing. I've never been to an adult theater, but I thought rubbing one out in them was sort of accepted lol.

It probably should be legal. It is a place were it accepted and everyone should be consenting adults. I have a friend who worked at an adult bookstore that had a downstairs "arcade". Some freaky things went down there, but that is what the people were there for. Some this stuff should be de-stigmatized. Regulated? Sure. That could be said of sex-work as well.

Random question since it came up at work when someone mentioned Pee-Wee's death. At what age does "he was too young" no longer fit. I'm sure we've talked about it before on this board, but curious.

For me, anyone in their 60's is too young. Anyone in their 80's "had a pretty good run". Somewhere about 72 to 75, is my "well ... ok".

My parents are hitting 75 and my doctor brother has told them they are officially on borrowed time. So I'd put it somewhere around there.

80 seems almost like the benchmark to me. I'm not shocked if someone in their 70s dies, but do feel like there was maybe some more life to be squeezed out there.

Of course this is probably influenced by the fact that my dad is now 76. It feels like he should have a good deal more time, especially given that both of his parents reached 90 (or almost did, my grandmother may have come up a little short, I forget exactly). Also, my wife's parents are over 80 and seem to be doing relatively well, of course they see doctors regularly and are decently off. (Both of my wife's grandmothers made it well into their 90s; FIL is 85 in Oct and his sister is I believe 9 years older than he is.)
