I hate programs that, for no good reason at all, display an icon in your systray when running in addition to the taskbar item they create.

You are not that important, stupid little program.

Amen! Why must you make me edit msconfig just for your little puny sake?

I wonder if there's a way to disable middle clicking in firefox from causing the window to scroll when you use the mouse. The number of times I try to middle click on a link to open it in a bg tab and miss and then the window scrolls like a banshee when I move my mouse is about to drive me to a clock tower.

It's people like this that at times make me question if I'm doing enough to better myself, and to bring happiness to others. The answer is always no.

Playboy should make an offer to Christina Hendricks to pose for the magazine, but should do it semi-in character with her role on Mad Men. Meaning, approach the shoot as they would have in the early 1960s. Match the lighting, the poses, the decor. Playboy showed a lot less back then, so it might even be agreeable to her.

As much as I'd like her to, I'd probably say no. I mean, look at all these "celebrity pictorials" these days (well, really dating back some time). They never show anything. Even the announced Kelly Brook appearance isn't going to. Nobody does that anymore. And it will probably be in black and white or sepia tones with lousy camera angles and or "action" (re: blurry) or at a distance or whatever.

Even though they didn't show all the goods until the early 70s, shoots from the 60s were, well, refreshing compared to those today. Hell, most of them even used NATURAL SUNLIGHT. And they were in color! Radical, I know.

That didn't work out too well for the lead singer of INXS or David Carradine.

I thought turning in my resignation would cause tension with my soon-to-be-ex-boss. That turned out better than expected.

Failing masters exam sucks, but it's given me a lot to think about, such as if I even want to retake it. Currently leaning towards no.

Thanks. Honestly, the questions were of the level that I found myself asking if it was a masters exam or a PhD exam.

I'm tempted not to retake it, since I a) have no plans of going into teaching, b) will never go for my PhD and c) would rather concentrate solely on my MFA starting next fall.

Honestly, this whole year has been the worst I've had since Minnesota (what I call The Lost Year). My inspiration has disappeared, my scholastic ability seems to have diminished a bit, and.. yeah.

Of course, one could argue it'd make my two years here a bit of a waste if I don't end up with my MA, but I did learn points a and b here, and wrote the bulk of my manuscript that got me into MFA program in a class here. It also taught me there is no way in hell I will ever, *ever* live in the South.

Now I have to try and fight through it all to write a response paper for Thursday, a 15-20 page term paper for next Friday (25th) and put together a portfolio by the 24th.

Oh, and prepare everything for moving out on the 26th, while dealing with an absolute pigsty of an apartment thanks to my asshole roommates who not only left literal trash and a bunch of other stuff when they moved out, but didn't pay their portion of the utility bills despite my emailing them a few times about it (total: $110).

It's not all homogeneous. Austin, New Orleans, and Key West, for example, are a lot less "South" than many other cities outside the South. Also for example, just because you might not want to live in the middle of nowhere Ohio or Pennsylvania (which have been known to have southern-like characteristics) doesn't mean you wouldn't fit in the more urban areas there.

Just saying don't be so quick to paint a whole large geographical area with such a broad stroke saying "do not re-enter under any circumstances."

Fair point. I don't care for most of the Midwest either, with a few exceptions similar to what you describe (although La Crosse, WI is oddly enough one of those exceptions). I actually definitely want to check out Austin at some point.

I guess I was just in a venting mood last night.

Does anyone else struggle when naming new characters in games?

ie, I want to create a new Warrior in WoW. I am struggling with a name.

Sometimes, but not typically. In City of Heroes, anyway. If I'm making a character I either already have a theme or concept in mind or I work in some reference to the power sets.

Spectral Shot (Illusion, Trick Arrow)
Blu Blazes (Fire, Fire, and more Fire)
Lady Elixir (Empathy [healing])
Doctor Plumbum (Mercenary [uses bullets], Poison)
Zap Dingbat, Time's New Roman, Treebucket -- members of my villain group "Twisted Fonts"

In WoW can't you just put together a bunch of consonants and an apostrophe here or there and claim it's some orc/inner earth name?

Heh, I have two names that I've used for main and twink chars since everquest 12 years ago. I use them in every game. I rarely play a bunch of characters in a game, I pick one, occasionally two, and get them to max level and go from there. If I ever need a 3rd I'm completely screwed.

People are stupid.

-Dress code at work requires nothing more than jeans and collared shirts. No shorts or sandals.

-Two women in a 20+ person group decide to start wearing shorts and flip flops 2-3 times a week.

-After 3 months of this, management finally cracks the whip and tightens dress code to the point that now jeans aren't even an option.

-The two people who wore shorts and flip flops complain how unfair the new policy is while the rest of the group wonders why these two people can't figure out that they were the main cause for the dress code change.

Leaving the job would actually motivate me to do this for my own personal satisfaction, as opposed to going the apathy route.

I know we have a D.C. contingent here - is anybody following this Robert Wone murder trial? It looks like things are winding down and we should have a verdict before long. I still have really no idea what the hell happened. Wild case.

I kind of wish we practiced arranged marriages. I think I would end up better in that scenario than I will under my own devices. And I think there's a lot less tension and pressure in an arranged marriage. They're probably like, "what can we do - let's just make the best of it".

Sure, but in a way, it just transfers the test from your own social skills to the social skills of your parents.

True, but I think there's also a certain ease of life in not having a choice.

ie, I want to create a new Warrior in WoW. I am struggling with a name.

Oh yeah, I struggle big time too. I usually use the same name since Everquest (much like Radii), but if I stick with a theme (like cuervo), like in City of Heroes:

Angel Azul - meaning Blue Angel in Spanish for my Empath Healer
Hellspirit for my Fire/Fire gal
Lori Swifthands for my Scrapper

Did you by any chance play Dark Ages of Camelot? I remember seeing the name "Bob the Cleric" and busted up everytime I saw him. Clever, or not, name for a cleric who didn't know how to name his character.

Yeah seriously that'd be the first thing I'd say too. Not really call them dumbasses, but something like, "you do realize it's your fault, right?" or "shit, thanks a lot, you ruined it for us."

I did not, but that's pretty amusing.
