I really only play the Kaiserreich mod for HOI4 but even if I didn't, those DLC at 50% off still seem about 2X too high. $5 for a DLC would seem pretty tempting. $10 (-50%) is pretty quick no for most of them. $20 (original price) per seems ridiculous.

I mean even at $10, they aren't -- excuse the pun -- game changers. You get a new widget or two but it isn't evolutionary.

I'm horribly price conscious about most stuff, gaming in particular, but once they hit half price I'm eventually in for most of their DLC that checks out for me. I don't buy any of it for completionist sake, it's strictly a piece by piece and "will I play with this stuff in use" equation

But once it hits $10, even one play through on a given country makes it pay off when you consider how long a single play is.

I literally just started with EU4 in the past week, my next session will push me over 60 hours with it and I'm only on my 2nd country and still very much just learning where all the buttons are and what they do.

My next HOI4 session will put me past the 300 hour mark and I'm just now starting to feel like I've gotten the hang of things well enough to be thinking about a for-real trying to win campaign. I can see it cracking the 1,000 hour barrier easily, and I fear the same will turn out to be true for EU4 as well.

Then double those hours for us since Steam family sharing means my son gets the same stuff (EU4 is actually his game, he's well past 500 hours on it) and the $30 we dropped this week to pick up some of the DLC he didn't have will easily generate another 100 -200 hours for him by opening up areas he hasn't played previously.

Got an email about a new subscription service today, FridayPlays. Each Friday you get an offer of one of four games to choose which one you want to claim-you get a Steam key and the game is yours to keep. Right now they are offering a 1 month subscription for $10. (regular price is $14). Not sure if this special price is just for this one month or forever. Offered through GameSpot so I'm thinking its pretty genuine.

So a couple of RPGs, I've been looking at came out of Early access on Steam today and may be worth a look:

1-Tainted Grail-I think this is a digital version of a board game, but don't quote me on that. It has a kind a gothic horror feel to it as you set about exploring and finding out what happened to the cursed island of Avalon from Arthurian legend. It's a card, deckbuilding roguelike kind of an RPG>

2-Solastra: Crown of the Magister-It's an turn-based tactical RPG with tie-ins to a Dungeons and Dragons like ruleset (I think)

Bought Solestra in EA and just played enough to get the mechanics down. It incorporates the D&D ruleset quite well and I have been waiting for the release. Plays much better than BG: 3 IMO

Disco Elysium is a lot of fun, but it's one of the more challenging RPGs I've played in recent years, because the main character's sanity is something of a balancing act.

"Game Over" is seldom something you see coming.

In celebration of Pride Month, Tell me Why's publisher is offering all three chapters of its game free this month. It's a story of identical Native American twins, one trans who return to their Alaska home when their father (?) dies to settle his affairs and relive the memories of their childhood through the rekindling of their twin "gift". Game play and visuals remind me a great deal of Life is Strange (makers of this game too), where the story grows as you explore the house and environment. Being a twin and gay this one kinda hit all the right spots with me.

Free on XBox too I believe.

Yep I can confirm, but I think both games are free to play regardless.

Just about every game site has a Warhammer sale/event this week with lots off on them, so worth checking around if looking for a Warhammer game.

Also Ark is free to play through the weekend on Steam

Two games I've been watching have come out of Early Access this week:

1) Spellcaster University-You are the headmaster and you must build, manage, and decide on what you want to train your young spellcasters in, all while defending the place against evil.

2) Wildermyth-a fantasy story RPG where you decide what the story is, where it is going, and what effect it will have on the adventurers that you take on the story for the rest of their (maybe short-lived) lives. Found out about this one on Nookrium's You Tube Channel and he probably will have an edited version of his livestream he just did when this game went out of early access shortly. I really like how this one plays.

Both are modestly on sale-less than $20 I believe.

Valor and Victory was released today. It's a computer adaption of originally a print-and-play board game. It's kinda Advanced Squad Leader lite. Looking forward to digging into it.

I have played Wildermyth. It's fun but it does have it's own take on a fantasy setting. That was a little bit of a curveball for me when I picked it up. Reminds me just a little of Massive Chalice.
