I'm fine with vuvuzela blowers in England. I'm also fine with the bodily harm they will more than likely receive from hardcore fans.

I am also confused by the red card against the SA keeper. The touch was garbage and was going to be a turnover and he caught the edge of a shoe which provoked a dive. I guess I could live with the penalty kick, but the red card seems to be a joke.

If that was called correctly and deserves a red then I can't wait for the WC to end so I can go back to ignoring soccer.

To call something a musical instrument doesn't it actually have to make music?

I'm not a huge fan of that red card either. It could have been a yellow as his touch was taking him away from goal and there is a pretty good chance the defender is going to get there first.

And clearly offside. Hell the angle I'm watching it looks like he's close to being offside on the original shot, never mind any deflection it takes. Parreira is a lunatic but he's right about that call.

@ digamma : You are right here, very common scenario that when a keeper rushes out and barely misses the ball. Then itīs mostly a yellow card.
That scene i can see how the ref interpreted it as to show a red card, although i donīt like it either.

Nice. At least South Korea gets a goal. With the way things have gone in this Cup, anything can happen now.

i was a few minutes behind on DVR....wow - shock ending to the first half there.

It's not looking likely that Korea can get a result here, but anything is possible. I'm pulling for them to get out of the group and a draw would be a big help.

That fourth goal is really excruciating for S.Korea in terms of what it means for the rest of the group.

Now if Nigeria beat Greece by any margin, Korea have to beat Nigeria outright to advance.

If Korea can sneak a late goal here, it could be a huge deal.

Brilliant display by Higurain. Argentina looks very dangerous, especially considering they beat a pretty decent squad in SK.

WTF. Clear red.

If Greece can't score here, they should probably let somebody else have a go at this World Cup thing next time...

It sounds like Greece has been utterly horrible in the tourney, but a lifeline. Let's see if they can do ANYTHING.

Itīs so strange how that 1 insane tournament changed perspection with Greece. They have a league that is mediocre at best and chaotic most of the time and this is only the 2nd time ever they have even qualified for the world cup (and only played 2 European Championships as well !) and people suddenly are disapointed with how they play or the results they produce.

I am honestly not really surprised at their performance.

Nigeria is still very much in the competition even with a 1 goal loss. A two-goal loss starts complicating things. More than anything they need to not allow any more goals.

I'm taking it as a given that Greece will lose to Argentina.

Therefore, the Korea-Nigeria game is really where the action is at.

Korea win = they advance on points
Nigeria win = they advance on GD
Draw = Korea advance on GD

Korea is at -1. Nigeria is at -2. Nigeria need to win by 2 goals to advance. Korea has scored three goals. Nigeria has only scored 1. THe second tie-break is goals scored.

A one goal win would leave Korea still advancing on goals scored.

To advance with a draw, Greece needs to score at least two more goals than Korea scores against Nigeria if Korea draws with Nigeria. They lose the head-to-head tie-break with Korea if the goal differential and gaols scored are the same.

Right now, Greece has two goals scored and Korea has three goals scored. They are even on goal differential. They would stay even on GD if they both draw.

Remember that they are playing each other. 1 goal will do.

Current Standings:
Code:
P GF GA GD A 6 5 1 +4 K 3 3 4 -1 G 3 2 3 -1 N 0 1 3 -2

Permutations:
A needs: draw or win; not losing by enough to lose goal difference.
N needs: win and G loss (advance on goal difference since N would be at worst -1 and K would be at best -2 and G would be at best -2)
G needs: draw and N win; or draw and K draw, but have it be a draw while scoring 1 more goal than K. A loss and they're out on goal difference.
K needs: win and A win. Win and maintain goal difference with G win. Draw and G draw (maintaining GF lead). A loss and they're out on goal difference regardless.

Oh, you meant the Nigeria-Korea part. My bad. You're right there. A Nigeria win would advance them on H2H since GD AND GS would have to be at least even.

Clear it with the rest of your family before you watch the next World Cup game:

Quote:
Police say a South African man who wanted to watch a World Cup match instead of a religious program was beaten to death by his family in the northeastern part of the country.

David Makoeya, a 61-year-old man from the small village of Makweya, Limpopo province, fought with his wife and two children for the remote control on Sunday because he wanted to watch Germany play Australia in the World Cup. The others, however, wanted to watch a gospel show.

"He said, 'No, I want to watch soccer,'" police spokesman Mothemane Malefo said Thursday. "That is when the argument came about.

"In that argument, they started assaulting him."

Malefo said Makoeya got up to change the channel by hand after being refused the remote control and was attacked by his 68-year-old wife Francina and two children, 36-year-old son Collin and 23-year-old daughter Lebogang.

Malefo said he was not sure what the family used to kill Makoeya.

"It appears they banged his head against the wall," Malefo said. "They phoned the police only after he was badly injured, but by the time the police arrived the man was already dead."

All three were arrested Sunday night, but Lebogang was released on $200 bail Tuesday, Malefo said. The other two are still being held in custody.

Malefo said the mother and son will reappear in the local Seshego Magistrates Court on July 27.

"He was always a happy man, never violent," Makoeya's nieces, Miriam and Anna, told the Daily Sun newspaper. "On Saturday, we saw him the last time at a funeral."

So root for the 0-0, South Africa to upset France and Uruguay to at least draw against Mexico.

Drawing of lots is the final tiebreaker.

Can you imagine the reaction if a Spain or England was denied advancement due to losing out on what essentially is a coin-toss?
