And I find that the consensus number for running seems to be, give or take, 800-900 calories per 10 miles. So 25 miles on the bike would be 600-800 calories or so. That is the estimate that I use despite what my Forerunner (301) says.

As I suspected/feared, this was the worst week since I started the diet:

Weight: 210 (0 change)
Exercise: 22-30 miles (30 only once) 5 days this past week, free weights, crunches, and pushups.
Diet: I cheated 2 days, once on a date, and once eating leftover bbq. Also, had light beers 2 nights.

This lack of weight loss this past week has me motivated to be more strict on the diet this week, although I may be going out to dinner Saturday night.

EF27, if you only had a couple cheat meals and 2 beers, you could just be dealing with some excess water weight and you maybe did lose a pound or two. I wouldn't get too down on yourself, I've sort of realized that the scale can cause me to overthink things. Last week I had Chinese food as a cheat meal and woke up the next day 3 pounds heavier than the day before. The next morning I was 4 pounds lighter. Go figure.

Not sure how many people have heard of Walden Farms, but I figured I'd pass along this find that a friend of mine told me about. They basically make 0 calorie sauces/dips. I'd say most of them are pretty "ehhhh" and not worth the trouble.

But one thing they make that is fantastic is pancake syrup. You will have an extremely hard time telling the difference in their 0 calorie syrup and the Mrs. Butterworth from the store that will give you about 220 calories a serving. I've been making french toast on some mornings with whole wheat bread (Ezekiel), mix of egg whites and a yolk, drop of skim milk, some vanilla extract, and cinnamon on top. 3 slices comes to just under 300 calories even after I pile on the maple syrup. Can't beat that for breakfast. It also mixes in well with oatmeal.

Walden Farms: Pancake Syrup

Two milestones today. First, my scale said my Visceral Fat is at 15 for the first time since last year. Woohoo! Secondly, since I drink a lot of water at work, but not so much on weekends (plus I sleep until 11-noon-ish), I generally weigh a pound or two less on the weekends than on weekdays. This past weekend was the first time I weighed under 240 since I started keeping track on Sept 1st (Sat 239.8, Sun 238.3), but today is the first weekday that I accomplished that (239.2 today). And that's despite having a lackluster week so far. Sweet!

Weight - 188.8
Goal Weight - 120
Exercise - Going for a 4 mile walk later today

Had Zumba yesterday and was exhausted, probably still from the last Y10X class. This Ezekiel Bread is pretty kick ass. Got a recipe for The Healthy Elvis that was pretty awesome and I've also made open faced egg sandwiches for breakfast that were really filling. The French Toast Rainmaker posted about sounds great, gonna give it a try.

Thanks everyone.

I ran on Monday and my knees feel terrible. They were ok, but I was carrying tanks today and they felt like they were going to give out. The last time I tried C25K, I was around 233-235 and my knees didn't hurt this much until Week 2. So I guess I'll go back to doing Week 0 (which worked, I lost 2.5 pounds last week) for a few more weeks before trying Week 1 again.

Missed a few days of weighing myself due to a bunch of different things (travel, tiredness, all that kinda stuff), but weighed myself last night...down to 247.6.

Hoping that was legit and it's down around that level...we'll see in about 30 mins

Okay...248 tonight. Probably a bit more hydrated then I was on that day I guess.

Good stuff though. Basically down 15lbs in the last month. Really happy with that!!!

That is great DT. I think I am plateauing, but as long as I continue to lose inches and build muscle mass I will be ok with that. Still would be nice to be down a pound or so when I weigh in on weds. I did do 32 miles on the exercise bike (while watching the Eagles) yesterday so that felt really good.

Everytime I think I'm plateauing, I have a drop that comes out of nowhere. It's so weird. I weight myself first thing in the morning everyday. I'll be at the same weight or right around the same for a week straight and then magically one day 2 pounds will drop off. I don't get it.

Just broke a 10 pound benchmark on Friday but was over it on the weekend. Monday has me below it which is good since I had some pizza yesterday after the Bears game.

188.6

BodyVibe today. Good workout, lots of burning and shaky muscles.

Maintaining which isn't good enough. I blame pizza and chips.

Monday was legs and shoulders day. I hate that day. Don't know what it is but I HATE doing squats and lunges. Love anything upper body but can't stand working the lower half. For some reason I was hungry all day and sort of nibbled on stuff like beef jerky, Kashi, Fiber One bar, and 2 skinny cow ice cream sandwiches. Don't think I went over my maintenance, but probably pretty close. Not sure where this hunger came from since I haven't really encountered it in my weight loss journey. I hope my body isn't deciding it wants to fight back.

Anyways, today is a muscle rest day although if I'm not sore, I'm going to try and get 45 minutes in of cardio on the bike. Have some venison on the menu tonight.

Week 8 Averages
Weight: 239.7 (-0.9 | -6.4)
Body Fat%: 35.59% (-0.57% | -1.76%)
Muscle%: 30.30% (+0.30% | +0.99%)
Resting Metabolism: 2130.0 (-4.29 | -35.4)
Visceral Fat: 15.6 (3 days at 15, 4 days at 16)

Had a terrible week but still down almost a pound. Good thing my bad days now are still better than the typical day from a few months ago. Now I am where I was last year when I started to lose weight.

Run Today
Forerunner: 2.18 miles, 32:40 minutes, 328 calories, 153bpm ave, 197bpm max
(Total: 2 runs, 4.13 miles, 1:03:00 hours, 628 calories, 152bpm ave, 15:15/mile ave pace, 3.9mph ave speed)

Nike+: 2.09 miles, 32:38 minutes, 294 calories
(Total: 4 runs, 7.67 miles, 2:03:10 hours, 1077 calories)

Went back to doing 30 seconds of running and 60 seconds of walking. Distance is up because I made an effort to walk faster and run faster. My knees are feeling that decision and will probably just do slow jogging on Thur. or Fri.

On the last run, I ran as fast as I could and got to a 5:59/mile pace (10.1 mph speed). When I was a freshman in high school, I ran the mile in 6 minutes. So right now my fastest speed is how fast I could run when running the mile in high school. (Of course, I only weighed 160-165 at the time and had just gone through a season of football and a season of basketball...I'm about 80 pounds away from that).

#s are looking great Sab!

Weight - 187.6
Goal Weight - 120
Exercise - BodyCombat (-839 calories)

Yesterday's walk went great, they're getting easier. I'm having problems with my Nike+ freezing up so I don't have an accurate calories burned or miles walked.

Today's class went well, I noticed my punches and kicks are getting stronger.

Diet: 1400 calories per day or less 6 days this week with Saturday being the only day I missed the target due to a date.
Exercise: 24, 25, 22, 26, and 32 miles on the exercise bike along with pushups, crunches, and light weight work each of those days.

After losing at least 2-3 lbs/week, it is hard to adjust my thinking, but I'm still happy to lose a half pound and I feel myself putting on more muscle. I'm considering one of those scales to see the numbers for myself.

You thought about getting on a weight lifting program EF27? I was on a similar plan as you and when I shifted to heavy lifting I saw weight peel off and clothes fitting really well. With a set of olympic dumbbells you can do pretty much everything.

I'm doing shoulders and arms primarily right now with 10, 20, and 30 lb dumb bells, but I'd want a spotter for heavy weight lifting and I hate working out in a gym. And, most of my friends are married and busy. Only guy who is a good potential workout partner wants to work out during lunch, and I don't like doing that.

If anyone wants a challenge, going on a business trip to NYC is somewhat challenging to eat right. The other day, I went for dinner, and the great thing about New York is they require all menus to have calorie counts next to the meals. That is great until you see every single meal have a calorie count of over 1000!

I ended up getting a half order of a dish, which checked in at about 570 calories, and it was so large, I only ended up eating half of that.

Then yesterday, I ended up working from 6:45am until close to 9pm. Didn't get back to the hotel until around 9 and had to resort to room service. Once again a ton of food which I ate only half of, but to make matters worse, eating that late at night made my stomach ache badly this morning.

My goal is to survive this trip and get back home and hopefully not have gained more than say 210. I'll declare that a victory.

Started off as a great day, feeling great and all, stepped on the scale and was 245.6 this morning. Awesome.

Had a (normal) great day with food...up until I left work, went home and talked with my parents for an hour, then stopped at the grocery store and bought a bounce of those Healthy Choice steamer entrees (low calorie, etc). So that was great. But then it was 8:00PM and I hadn't had dinner. So I broke down a little and went to 5 Guys...got a hamburger (just ketchup) and a thing of fries. No soda and didn't finish the fries (or the burger, still had 1 bite left), but I feel bad.

But not every day can be awesome start-to-finish and it was late, so I guess I shouldn't beat myself up.

WOOT

246.4!!

Even if I gain a smidge back tomorrow from the lil 5 Guys dinner it's all good. And maybe I'll just work out a lil extra to make up for it.

Can't beat yourself up over a cheat meal every once in awhile. You sometimes need it to keep yourself sane. One bad meal isn't going to derail you at all.

This is true. But I like to beat myself up over it a little bit, otherwise it's too easy to start sliding.

Then again I was at the grocery store because I was buying a bunch of those Healthy Choice frozen steamer meals...which are like 200-260 calories a pop and will be good meals for busy nights when I don't want to cook, so I suppose it evens out in the long run.

Stats from what will be my last run for awhile.

Forerunner: 1.95 miles, 30:11.39, 294 calories, 119bpm ave, 159bpm max (My HR chest strap got messed up for a bit because my HR was stuck at 139 for a good while. And then it was not recording my HR for a bit.)

Nike+: 1.91 miles, 30:14, 269 calories
Total: 5 runs, 9.58 miles, 2:33:25, 1346 calories

Work today was horrible because my knees hurt so damn much. Several months ago, when I was at 233-235, I tried Week 1 of C25K and was ok. Knees were bothered but not in pain. After the 3 runs of Week 2, my knees had enough.

Now that I'm running at 240+, "Week 0" was fine until I tried just 1 day of Week 1 and now my knees are getting worse even though I've gone back to 30 sec run with 60 sec walking. Either my knees are getting worse, which means I'm pretty much fucked no matter what I do, or my knees can't take 240+ pounds when running and I need to wait until I lose some weight before trying again.

Going to give it a few weeks, hopefully I'll be < 235 in 3-4 weeks and if my knees feel fine, I'll give it another try and just stick with "Week 0" until I lose a good deal of weight. If they are still bothering me, guess I'll be waiting until spring. Which may be a good thing. If I start running when I'm under 200, my knees may just be fine by then and I can do C25K for real. Whatever is up with my knees, they clearly can't take running right now. Sucks (mainly because I like running), but I've got other ways to work out.

I've no idea how much i weigh and i dont wanna. Did Zumba Saturday and it was a good mix of music. Our instructor played Thriller and Tricky by Run DMC. Today I felt really crappy (from stress) but I felt obligated to go cuz of my workout buddies. Had it not been for them I wouldn't have gone... luv those girls.

Next workout will be on Wednesday and it willmost likely be BodyCombat.

I seem to be stuck around this one weight range for the last week and a half. I know it's not a long time, but I usually see faster progress. Kind of discouraging despite having some good workouts during the week and eating fairly well. Might have had a little extra calories throughout the day but should have still been at a decent deficit.

Anyways, hoping I see some better gains in the next couple days. I'm always preaching not to worry about the scale, but for some reason it's been getting to me lately.

Plateaus suck, but they're natural in any steady weight loss program. Just keep plugging away and you'll bust through it.

Slow and steady.

In the last two weeks, only 4 days I felt good enough to put a check mark in the food column, but my bad days are still much better than the typical day I had before. Still, need to get that back under control so I can get back to ~2 pound lose weeks.

Weight: 208 (-1.5 this week and 55 overall!)

Diet: 1400 calories per day or less 6 days this week with last Weds. being the only day I missed the target due to a date.
Exercise: 24-30 miles per day on the exercise bike along with pushups, crunches, and light weight work 5 days this past week.

Feels good to be past the plateau.

245.6 this morning, but that's an "unofficial" weight since I usually weigh in at night. Cut out around half the calories in my breakfast today (~125-150), and planning on a lot of veggies for dinner. Determined to bust through this plateau.

Went out and had an amazing dinner last night for work though, so I'm just happy I didn't gain a bunch last night.

Weight - 188.0
Goal Weight - 120
Exercise - BodyCombat

I need to go soft on my elbows, I punched too hard, or retracted all wrong and I'm in a little bit of pain. Still awesome workout.

Had Ezekiel bread with almond butter and a drizzle of honey for "breakfast". I put it in quotes because it's not really a breakfast, just a little something before my workout. I'm told I should eat more because of how many calories I burn and how strenous some of these workouts have been, so I'll probably have egg on toast to up the protein a bit. Usually if I'm in a hurry I just grab an apple and go, but it's a noticeable difference in effort when I have EBread.

246.4 after the day, but I'm hoping that my lack of loss is residual from my dinner last night and I'll drop tomorrow night.

Well down to 244.8 when I woke up, so hopefully that's an indication that I've broken through the plateau. We'll see.

So I hate that I let myself get to this point, but I'm going to have to seriously hit the weight loss/workout thing hard. I had done so well a few years ago, dropping 75+ pounds, but I've gained back like 30 pounds or so, and it's time to put an end to it and go hardcore again.

The last year has been brutal for me. Between being lax with what I eat and being so involved with my kids' lives, I just haven't exercised like I should. Now that Caitlin's middle school basketball season is over and softball is going indoors (we literally had somehwere to be 5-6 nights a week, and that's not including Mackenzie's soccer season, which was derailed by a broken collarbone), I've got a good bit of time to work out 3-5 times a week (3 times at the gym, 2 times at home with crunches/weights is the plan). I'm giving myself until March 1 to get down to the 160-165 range again. After that, with sports picking up again, I'll have to fight the battle of finding time to work out (both girls are playing travel softball and I'm coaching Mackenzie's 8U team). But I'll deal with that when it happens.

Good luck Ksyrup.

Think I might have gotten out of that mini-plateau. Ended up being down 1.6 pounds from yesterday, so maybe I was just holding on to a couple pounds of water weight which was tricking me into thinking I was in a plateau. I need to stop being so paranoid when I don't see results and just have faith it's working.

Yeah. I'm still stuck in this plateau. But since I went down 15lbs in 30 days i guess i can give myself a little plateau here.

Hopeful that I broke through the plateau...244.6 last night when I weighed myself.

242.8 this morning when I gave myself an unofficial weigh-in.

Of course then I collapsed in the shower, but I'm not entirely convinced that was hunger - it might have been freaked-out panic because i was doing a cancer-check and got carried away with "what ifs." Went all light-headed, started to like...brace myself against the wall and double-over, next thing i know i'm sitting in the shower.

Busted it.

242.4 tonight.

And that's including the fact that I had a cheat-dinner and went to 5 Guys and had a burger and about half the order of fries for dinner (since i collapsed in the shower i figured I could use some serious protein).

That's 20lbs in total since I started. Hell yea!

That's great. My favorite part is picking up a 20 pound weight and realizing how much that is that came off your body.
