I think Rattler would have been a better fit and better player for Denver than Bo Nix. I wouldn't have taken him in the first, or 2nd, but I liked him better than Nix and McCarthy.

You know it's bad when it's taken this long to secure it and get him off the field.

They are at least in good position to make the playoffs. The weak defensive front still scares me.

What worries me about Nix is that his accuracy is supposed to be off the charts, and it's not. First throw of today's game, he airmailed a ball that got intercepted. He's missed too many NFL throws in 6 games that I don't know if he'll ever be much better than a Drew Locke-type of QB.

I hope I'm wrong. But I also don't know what Payton was doing shedding someone like Tim Patrick when the team is desperate for playmakers. He was Nix's best target during the preseason and now he's escaped to Detroit and making plays as a solid 3rd or 4th option. Cound have come in handy for Nix.

What a great unselfish play by Clark Phillips at the end of this game. Picked off Dalton and had a pick 6, but slid down at the 5 so the offense can kneel out the clock.

That Hutchinson injury, just terrible. It looked a bit like those MMA injuries where someone checks a leg kick with a knee. Hopefully, there isn't much damage other than what's obvious. He's due to get a big off-season contract. I can't imagine we'll see him again this season.

I hope the Harbaugh issue wasn't related to his surgery for an irregular heartbeat a few years ago. Coaches don't sleep during the season, put a lot of stress on themselves. I don't think he had a relaxing bye week with so much on the line with today's game.

Is there some reason the NFL game is delayed? It's 8:22 and they're just taking the flag off the field. Odd.

So many missed tackles when the defender goes for the strip.

A look at the Bears and their opponents this season:

Week 1: beat Tennessee (now 1-4)
Week 2: lost to Houston (now 5-1)
Week 3: lost to Indianapolis (now 3-3)
Week 4: beat the Rams (now 1-4)
Week 5: beat Carolina (now 1-5)
Week 6: beat Jacksonville (now 1-5)

SoV: 4, which is lower than any team in the league with 3 or more wins so far. They get Washington, Arizona and New England after the bye, but finish with eight games mostly in-division, no one with a losing record right now.

Good introduction to the NFL for Caleb Williams, and he does look about 100 times better than Fields out there, but it might get tough out there for him.

I think the Giants' plan is to run Daniel Jones into an injury so they have an excuse to move on.

The Bengals would be in real trouble if the Giants could hit these open receivers.

In the first half, Jones and Burrow combined for 50% more rushing yardage than Daniels and Lamar Jackson accumulated in their entire much-anticipated game earlier today.

Has there ever been a team that's consistently looked as good as the Ravens, yet has not reached the Super Bowl since Joe Flacco led them to victory in the 2012 season?

I honestly don't see him as becoming a whole lot more than Lock. Probably a quarterback you keep around for the rookie contract but that second one becomes an issue. Denver really needs to load up on defense the next few seasons and hope he becomes competent enough to compliment a strong D.

Six games in and he looks like a professional NFL quarterback. He goes through his progressions and runs when he has to. But I'm with you -- this is the Bears and as fans we are programmed to expect the worst.

He looks like a guy who once he has settled in, can overcome the weaknesses your team has on offense. Everything he is doing looks so natural including the running he does. Props to Shane Waldron as well. I don't know if it was a scaled down offense or not, but it seemed pretty clear that he and Caleb were in sync yesterday.

Benching Nate Davis made the whole line play a bit better and that's made everything look easier. Waldron took a lot of heat the first 2 weeks, mostly deserved, but his playcalling and play design the past couple of weeks has been fantastic. The first TD pass to Kmet was elite play design.

Yeah, but the Packers beat the Titans and Colts with Malik Willis and I can't think of three defenses worse right now than the Panthers, Jags and Rams (due more to injury).

After the BYE it is going to get tough, but I can see the at Bears 6-3 then. That would be a massive improvement and enough for Bears fans to actually legitimately get excited about their QB (I'm not talking about the offseason photos of Fields with his shirt off in 22 and 23).

See I am trying to stay positive with Waldron.

Seriously, does anyone know how universal the practice of scripting the 10-15 offensive plays? If it is pretty universal, it would be pretty amazing for him not to do that for Caleb and the rest of the offense. That seems like something that would be a help not a hindrance for a young QB especially since the scripting is done in conjunction with the starting QB. But I don't if not scripting is that unusual.

Waldron is from the McVay tree and those coaches tend to not do any play scripting to start a game.

Scripting has evolved, because it can be analyzed. The more common approach the last ten years or so is to script each situation group (1st-and-10, 1st-and-10 earned, 3rd and 1 or 2, etc...) with markings indicating the order or potential section moves based on what the defense is showing.

If it's organized properly, the play-calling coach has everything he needs to react almost immediately, bringing in variations and plays from other sections that have been practiced in the base 30-40 plays they've rehearsed that week.

Teams also have to be able to adjust if coverage is different from what the coaches expected. One example would be the comments from Deshaun Watson after yesterday's game against Philadelphia. He said they were expecting off-coverage on the wide receivers and got a lot of press instead. And then failed to adjust. As an aside, he then "takes the blame for..." after pretty much throwing everyone else under the proverbial bus.

Those adjustments need to be anticipated, and the situation continually analyzed so that the quarterback and receivers have a good idea how to read together. The game moves too fast otherwise.

From reporting in Chicago, it sounds like the Bears weren't scripting plays early in the season. The players requested it a few weeks back and they have been scripting the first 15 plays as of late.

With that said, their first couple drives are usually terrible, even during their recent offensive explosions. So I'm not sure how much that is helping.

The Hutchinson injury is awful. I feel terrible for him and he was playing at a defensive MVP level. He’ll be impossible to replace and the Lions were already very thin at that position.

Ksyrup, Tim Patrick is really coming on! He’s definitely the WR 3 right now and is providing that big, reliable 3rd down target the Lions desperately needed. He’s been awesome and a perfect fit for this team.
