And I was today years old when I learned that (much less that a character she'd played inspired the HQ character).

I knew her from a fantastic comedic turn as Calliope on Days of Our Lives, playing opposite John de Lancie for most of that run.

OMFG I remember Calliope! My mother STILL watcdhes Days of Our Laives to this day. And back in the 80s it was ALWAYS on and I remember Eugene and Calliope....the only thing I liked about the show

I didn't watch "Days of Our Lives" but I recognize her from bit roles in various TV shows. She is one of those people where you know the face, but couldn't place her in anything.

Makes me sad to see where Pat Corrales, a veteran of more than six decades of major league baseball, passed away last night at his home in the north Georgia mountains.

He'd been a special assistant to the Dodgers for the past 12 years but was part of the Braves coaching staff for 17 seasons (1990-2006) after managing three clubs and a nine year playing career.

The news hits me a little more because, when I first got married, Pat and his family were our neighbors in the condo at the corner of Peachtree & Lindbergh. Not "come over for dinner" neighbors or anything, just "run into and say hello in the elevator/parking garage" sort of neighbors. But he was always, unfailingly really, just .. nice. You'd see him taking their little dog for a walk (often after getting home late from the stadium) or taking his wife Donna to dinner or whatever, just really normal, pleasant.

A good guy best I could ever tell. (A recollection made somehow more enjoyable to me because all the articles today about this note what a hardass/tough guy/old school reputation he had around baseball)

Rest in peace.

I remember when he was manager of the Rangers back in the late 70s. I believe he also holds the distinction of being the only manager ever fired that was leading a first place team.

He had canceled some shows in May and acknowledged he was in the hospital at some point, but nothing specific.

Gotta give him props for turning his shtick into a brand. My parents came very close to buying into one of his senior living communities outside Hilton Head last year until I read the contract and pointed out all sorts of provisions that would not have been good for them. I had named it Del Boca Buffett.

Same. I've got nothing against the guy, but if you asked me what is the polar opposite of the vibe of the music you like to listen to, Buffett is #1 and it's not even close.

I'm far from a Parrothead but his ability as a lyricist -- writing from the perspective of someone that understood nobody gets out of life alive -- was first rate.

I guess. I've never really been one much for lyrics.

I love his music even though I will admit none of his songs are on my regular play list. I could easily fall into a beach oriented relaxed vibe of the Parrotheads if I didn't find the ones I know annoying.

Arguably famous - unless you're a yacht rock fan, then you definitely know Gary Wright. Dead at 80. Dream Weaver, indeed.

Absolutely it is. It's such yacht rock that there is a luxury yacht named Dream Weaver.

The synth intro disqualifies it as being yacht rock

WRONG. Whether or not it has synth is irrelevant. In this case, it replaces the standard orchestration of many yacht rock songs. And here, it just heightens the "smooth pop/rock" aspect of the song, which is a staple of yacht rock.

ClassicRock.com has it as the #25 yacht rock song of all time.

Speaking of quintessential yacht rock songs (way off topic, I know), but I've always laughed at the Christopher Cross song Ride Like the Wind, as if that dude, singing that song, is a believable mass murderer on the run.

Several versions of the story say construction accident, several others say "accident at a construction site" ...

The only one that seems to have the details is one from WIVB-TV/Buffalo (quoted by a sister station in my link) who quoted his mother who they interviewed

The 36-year-old had been on life support after suffering complications from a workplace accident. ... Williams’ on-the-job accident last month was not immediately thought to be life-threatening. Rosenthal said Williams was doing electrical work when someone above him dropped a steel beam that struck Williams in the head. He thought he had walked away from the incident with just a headache, but his symptoms worsened that week.

man that really sucks.
This is what I think of when I hear "steel beam"

sounds like something that only happens to cartoon characters like wile e coyote with good reason.

even if you wore a helmet that would hurt
