I, for one, am glad to see Hoke move up.
I miss having gigantic head coaches. I got spoiled and then Mangino, Friedgen, Weis, and Fulmer all lost their jobs in the past few years. |

Hoke is just setting himself up for the inevitable scandal. "You see, I don't even know how much *I* get paid, how am I supposed to know how much my players get paid?"

I don't know, Hal Mumme was dirty at UK and at times, it looked like they played 11-on-7 on D.

I'm not sure Washington's football program has reached the level that really warrants a snobbiness in the fanbase. Though I'm curious about how it works out financially too, I'm just glad to see Boise St. continue to schedule the northwest BCS schools. I'm not a Bronco fan, specifically, it just makes for fun weekends around here, and reasons for weekend road trips. Last edited by molson : 01-12-2011 at 06:43 PM. |

As long as the team is getting a payout similar to what they're getting for doing a home and home with Wisconsin later in the decade, I'm cool with it. I don't know how that $350K figure compares with other series out there. |

Not really an offseason thread for college football so just add these here as one is related to a coaching hire.
Forcier is gone from Michigan. Note, he was academically ineligible for the Gator Bowl so this isn't Hoke related. I liked him more than Robinson, but I prefer QBs with more a pro style versus running QBs. Michigan athletics director says QB Tate Forcier no longer with program - ESPN Robinson is staying so far and likely will. With Forcier gone, he pretty much needs to stay. He's talking to the coaches and so far he's being told they can run a decent spread and they build for the talent around them versus forcing it. Hoke: 1. RR: 0. I still say Robinson is limited against defenses that offer something more than a light breeze to deal with unless he makes another decent sized leap in the off season, but with Forcier gone, Gardner to me should see some playing time. I can't imagine Hoke is looking at playing Robinson as much as possible to squeeze out as many wins as he can. It's year one, find out what you have first. Denard Robinson's high school coach says he's likely to stay at Michigan - ESPN

Sounds like Maryland did LSU/Miles a favor and hired Gary Crowton away. I'm so sorry Maryland fans. Not for next year. He will probably do a good job his first year, as he usually does. But the man has no idea how to build a long term offensive identity or how to develop and properly utilize his QBs. And supposedly Maryland is paying him 500k a year.

I think you just found another 8-4 man! Brady Hoke breaks down 6 minutes into his press conference. He inspires confidence and awe. Other than that, he does a good job of trying to impersonate Jim Tressel when he took over at OSU, what with all the seniors and beating your rival talk.

It was a pretty safe bet that the next guy at Michigan was going to whip out some sort of commentary to copy Tressel's "Only 311 days until we beat Michigan" thing. Of course, Tressel had 4 1-AA national titles and a recruiting base in the state of Ohio to work from, while Hoke has....a resemblance to Mike Golic. |

Just because he is from Dayton, Ohio doesn't mean he'll suck. He could be pretty darn good despite the problem of his hometown. Personally, I think Dayton is a nice enough place. It's just some of the people there that are problematic. |

Just when we thought things were calming down in Austin, Duane Akina threw things into a tizzy again. He left to go back to the University of Arizona. He was been one of the best DB coaches in the country, with a steady stream of DBs heading to the NFL. But this spot got filled pretty quick, with former Longhorn player and most recently Seattle Seahawks DB coach Jerry Gray taking the position.
Now all that's left (and still a pretty big spot to fill) is hiring an O-Line coach.

Listening to the Raiders press conference announcing Jackson as their head coach is pure entertainment.
Davis is a rambling mess. He also just said that Campbell was a better player than Cam Newton in college.

Been busy as hell the last week plus so I haven't been active in this thread but I am glad to see Hoke get the gig and equally glad that it was just announced Ravens DC Greg Mattison is the new (kind of) DC at Michigan.
Guy has an incredible college resume and is widely regarded as an incredible recruiter. |

I found it amusing. Is it true? I didn't even bother to look into it. I assumed it was a joke. BTW, since obviously some people care, Walt Harris is the offensive coordinator at California University of Pennsylvania. And, no, I have no idea if that's in California or Pennsylvania.

YES! I just saw this on sbnation. I am very happy the way this staff is coming together. So by taking the 49ers job, Jim just cost John his DC? It's kinda fun the way the Harbaughs all fit together when you piece together the careers of all three. |

The Ravens are done. How is he kind of the DC? Is he just not signed yet? EDIT: Saw the report. Double edit: I just really hope this staff is given time. I think the improvement in terms of PR will give them that chance, but this is a brutal class they have coming in. Hopefully next years is good enough to see some solid coming together on both sides of the ball.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but....
QB Tate Forcier transferring from U-M | detnews.com | The Detroit News Quarterback Tate Forcier announced via Twitter early Thursday morning he intends to transfer from the University of Michigan. "I really wanted to stay," Forcier wrote. "I was not giving up on Michigan, but in the end, it was made clear they had given up on me. With that being said, it's time for me to go." Forcier was the starting quarterback as a freshman in 2009 and the backup to Denard Robinson in 2010. But two days before the Jan. 1 Gator Bowl, Forcier was declared ineligible to play and sent back to Ann Arbor. Forcier posted a series of messages on Twitter beginning at midnight. The text is as follows: Why do we all wait until we are at our lowest point to seek God's help? I've been kicked, pushed, knocked down, publicly berated, belittled, emasculated and more. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to give up or feel the victim. The humility of it all is indescribable and that is exactly my point. I had to reach rock bottom in order to see the light, and for that, I am thankful. It was not until then, I realized that it was my lack of accountability and maturity and not to pass blame. I do hope all my young fans forgive me and benefit from my lessons that I have learned. Be grateful for what you have and be humble for your successes. Don't wait to ask God into your life as he will help you see things clearer. In summary, I believe, I will become a better student and a person of stronger character from these experiences at Michigan. I can proudly state, "I worked hard on the practice field, in the film room and at meetings," after all, football is my passion. I had fun celebrating with the fans. I even competed hard while injured as a true freshman through the last (8) games in 2009, but I always played the game giving it my all. I am proud to have been part of Michigan Football history and will alway s cherish the memory. The last few weeks I worked extremely hard to catch back up. I really wanted to stay. I was not giving up on Michigan, but in the end, it was made clear they had given up on me. With that being said, it's time for me to go. I promise the Michigan family and fans I will make you proud again. Tate Forcier #5 - A Michigan Man Forever - Go Blue" ------------------------- Who called this back in November 2009? Some incredibly smart and ruggedly handsome sonofabitch, no doubt: Quote:
