It'll be down to the software you're using to connect the two I'm afraid so I can't really explain the reasoning as I'm not sure of how that was designed or operates, sorry.

(its probably down to the game switching screen resolutions/modes when it starts and that messing up the application - but exactly why I don't know sorry - if you run the game in a window on the computer it probably won't happen?)

Marc,
you know the one thing I'd really love? Being able to look and see what contract amount I've offered a guy; ie, when I'm looking at potential Bosman's, I often make a bunch of offers; I'd love the ability to know exactly what I offered a guy before confirming the signing. It drives me nuts that I can't seem to click on the offer tab and have it show ($XXX per week, $X loyalty bonus) so that I know what happens to my larger budget.

This - my game is ridiculously frozen on a pretty new computer in the player search screen. Wonder if there's an obvious fix.

if you put them on a shortlist you can actually do this right now :

open the shortlist with the guys you´ve offered ---> right click opn the top bar of the shortlist (where there´s the column names like "name", "value") ----> insert column ----> contract ---> wage of offered contract

as for the obvious fix : i assume you did delete useless reports allready (like guys with low star potential or guys way out of you price range) ? Another that helps a little would be unclicking "unrealistic targets" (and only activate it after you adjusted everything else)

there´s so much info you can pull up for custonized views

ok, after finishing 4th for the 3rd straight year and conceding 53 goals i changed my tactics. However, during preseason a couple injuries robbed me of both my starting wingers and since i wanted to give my young striker-prodigee more burn anyway i decided to go with a narrow 4-4-2 (DM-MC/MC-AMC) and 11 games in i´m level with ManU for first and have only conceded 8 goals Also that young striker has allready scored 9 league goals and 13 in 15 games overall. Super fun to watch as well, he´s just slicing through the defense off the ball and basically scoring on first times clear on goal, poacher-style (not totally inept elsewhere, but that is clearly his calling)

also, does anybody else think that national teams really have a biased against young players ? I know it´s not super common, but in the game it´s very, very rare for U21 eligible players to get called up for the main team. For example the aforementioned strike juts got nominated for the Slovenian U21 team again instead of the main team while he´s pretty clearly allready their best striker.

I'm using the 4-1-2-1-2 as well in my game. I took Arsenal over in 2016 and the tactic has led me to a 36-6-1 record 111 goals scored and only 11 against. I just got to March 1st.

It's a wonderful tactic with the right players and it gets rid of the need for trying to find solid wingers.

I just had a fun moment way down in the Scottish Third Division. A long ball from the other team bounced toward my keeper. My keeper walks up to collect the ball, and then he slowly walks forward looking for someone to pass to. Apparently, he stopped paying attention to where he was, because he just strolled right out the box with the ball still in his hands. Thanks for earning that yellow card, dumbass.

Is the height of a player factored into aerial ability? Who is better in the air, a 6'5" player with Jumping of 8-10 or a 6'0" player with a jumping of 12-14?

Height is a factor though do not have an answer for your example. The lower the league you play in the more the physical attributes are needed. So in the lower leagues I would take the 6'5'' guy. In the higher leagues depending on the other attributes of the two players, I can see taking the 6'0'' guy if he had better attributes for his position than the 6'5'' guy.

I'm pretty sure that jumping is what matters and the only thing height affects is how the players look on the 3D match engine.

yeah, i think the "jumping" attribute basically shows how high a player gets max. NMot how high he jumps but sort of a composite of height+jumping ability = jumping attribute (that´s why most tall players also have high jumping attributes while in real life tall players don´t actually have great jumping ability but get up there due to their hight)

@ grover : Wow, that´s not even fair I love that he isn´t super determined and still turned out that way. Normally low det + high flair is seen as detrimental, guess his natural talent prevailed here. Great find What did you pay for him ?

Here´s my guy Topic :

Spoiler

edit : He´s just scored 7 goals in the 3 games since that screen, i start to feel bad for oposing defenders

Damn - nice find Grover!!

I can hardly wait to get my 15 y/o kid to Juve once his loan finishes...once he does I predict he'll be a strong rotation-option basically right away, and a first-team regular by the age of 17 or so (leading to some difficult decisions on my part as I'm quite flush with wingers).

I´m in a close race with ManU still, struggling for a while i lost my lead and after a extra time 2:2 i gave up against 10-man man city both teams were tied with 3 games to go. ManU was ahead by 4 goals and have scored more, meaning i´d have to make up 5 to overtake them if all win out.
ManU won 2:0 against West Ham, my team countered with a 5:0 against Everton, my team was like posessed with getting goals. I had 25 shots (14 on goal) to Everton´s 5 and hit the woodwork 2 times as well.

ManU has Reading (18th) and @Fulham (11th) left while i have @West Brom (10th) and Bolton (20th) at home. I guess i´ll have to keep my aditional strikers close by on that bench Also, attacking movement will definitely ebe the match preperation.

ManU will play earlier next week, so that´s propably an advantage.

I did end up winning the title, ManU only draw Reading and Van Persie secures the title with his 1:0 gamewinner in the last game of the season. For all the time i was frustrated with him, that´s all forgotten now

Topic ends up scoring 32 league goals

Question : I just got news saying that

Quote:
League champions Arsenal could soon be the subject of a takeover bid, amid rumours that current chairman Peter Hill-Wood is looking to leave the club.

TV2 Sporten is reporting that a mystery foreign tycoon is looking to complete a buy-out of the club and invest large sums of money in new players and facilities.

what would that mean in practice ? I´m more than happy with money as it is, are there negative things to come out of it ?

Means exactly what it says. Lots more money. Tycoon might want to win though. Or he might just want to dump money on your lap.

I think the game is coded for tycoon's not to fire you right away, even if the news articles seem to indicate that they would.

Enjoy it if it happens.

So yeah, i´m just going to try to ignore that and restrict myself to keep me interested in the save a while longer, then go crazy for a year or 2 and then jump ship.

Yeah, more than I wanted to pay. 25 of it is spread out over 3 years, so there's that. Five goals in his first two games is a good start on repaying it though.

Positioning is pretty bad for an elite striker though - still, more than enough dark blues on that chart to impress. What a physical phenomenon - almost Drogba-esque in his prime.

Positioning is by and large a defensive attribute. Off the Ball is more important on offense.

Ugh - I just drew 2-2.

Sounds okay, but I was losing 1-0 after the first half, screamed at my guys at halftime, had a guy sent off in the 60th minute, scored 2 goals in the last 8 minutes of the game to seemingly snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but then gave up a goal right at the whistle.

Frustrated now.

ok, anybody have any advice on how to play with a not-stellar squad ? I´m so spoiled with playing as Arsenal, i just started a new game where i holidayed till march 2013 and then became Manager of BATE Borisov of Belarus (with view of also taking the NT job eventually). Now i realize that they (even in 2013) still have the best squad in the league (although they did finish 2nd and 3rd the last 2 years), but it´s still a step down, especially in some attrinbutes like creativity (technically sound players but creativity often less than 11 or 10).

I have gone 7W, 1D and 4L so far, good for 3rd only in the league. And as said, it is the best squad... So far my only idea was "make the squad even better" but i´d like to adjust my tactics as well.

Is a controlled game maybe better than my usual counter attacking, quick hitting game with lots of fluidity and roaming ?

As far as transfers go i´ve propably hit the jackpot, for some weird reason Alan Dzagoev (who turns out a superstar in most saves) was out of contract and then actually choose me over a couple russian clubs, rangers and some english teams Now he´s not a world beater in this save (yet ?) but still massive for me. He signed for only 500K with some big incentives (and that´s still near 15% of my total budget)

I also bougth belorussian NT player Sergey Krivets back to Bate and a slowenian striker namer Robert Beric

Anyone using a lower level mod for FM12? If so, which one? If I can't recover my Odd Down Dynasty, I might as well get a new one going in FM12.

I think i just found a rather interesting tactical wrinkle by accident. I had my starting striker leave the game injured in a huge game at CSKA moscow (still playing at Bate), when i went up 2:1 he had to go off and my other great striker started at AMC and was great, so instead of moving him up front or subbing in an overmatched replacement, i thought "how about not playing a striker ?"

So i dropped my striker back to CM and played :

---------DM--------DM

--------------CM

---AMR------AMC-------AML

i ended up winning the game 4:2 and it looked pretty damn slick, my AMC played as AMC on defense and when we had the ball he bursted into the seams up front and basically was the striker.

I sensationally qualified for the first knockout stage, but my team will fall apart i´m afraid as some really big guns start showing interest (for Beric f.e. Liverpool).

I´m absolutely dumbfounded by this success. Sure my team is damn good for Belarus, but i still wouldn´t have thought i´d have a shot at qualifying in a group with CSKA, Bordeaux and Real madrid. Ended up loosing to Real twice (1:3 each time), Bordeaux i had 0:0 and 3:0 and Moscow 0:0 and the aforementioned 4:2.

The league is bore snore though, will propably try to get hired elsewhere after another season or 2.

Sounds a bit like Spaletti's 4-6-0 at Roma five years or so ago. Who are you playing in the first knockout stage? Any chance of imitating APOEL?

{tries to remember without the game being open at the moment}

Isn't there at least one default formation that has no strikers? That 4-6-0 Katon mentioned maybe?

I got drawn with PSG and was happy about it until i remembered that in my game PSG has spent money like crazy and won the CL last year and the french championship 3 years running (they are only 3rd right now though)

I also sold both Dzakoev (5.5 mio) and Beric (4 mio) during the winter break as both refused to renew their contracts.

In the end i lost 0:2 at home (whil having a shot on goal advantage), at PSG i got the 1:0 lead but lost 2:1.

the knockout rounds will allways be tough because i come out of break and players lack match fitness unless i schedule friendlies. In one of those friendlies my best midfielder Krivets got hurt.

Knockout tround was 24.02. and 11.03 i think, my season ended end of november and picks up again in april !

my stadium got expanded twice, still not helping much with an average ticket price of 0.70 euros My total gate receipts were 360K including champions league matches, that´s just barely more than the match day expenses ... Basically i´m living entirely off of price money and player sales.

The hardest part of getting immersed into FM several years in, is the fact that as a customized database player it's difficult for me to get pumped to invest a ton of energy editing my db knowing that it's not going to work next year. I've sort of dealt with this by simply creating alternative ones from year to year that I build on, but...it'd be nice someday if they just made the editor data work across the editors. Doesn't have to work in game, but it'd be nice to be able to someday use the structure so I don't have to do it all from scratch.

I´m not doing much in that regard but certainly understand that frustration doing it with other games. With FM it must be especially irritating since it seems that the structure of the DB really doesn´t change much from year to year, does it ?

I´m currently mulling over an offer to move to Metallist in the Ucraine. Didn´t get the openings in Holland i wanted and now have been offered the Metallist job and am seriously considering it. I had to jump ship early in the season and would likely have some fun with my young team (and Dinamo Minsk seem to offer a challenge in the league, really strengthened their team and started with 6 straight wins), but the limitations are just so severe...
The team would have a solid core, although there are a couple aging key players.

Th Ucrainian league seem really competitive as well.

Messing around with a Manchester United save for fun. Wayne Rooney has 44 goals in 26 starts. I'm at January 1. The club has score 100 goals in my first 30 matches in charge, 29-1-0.

Ridiculous.

I think there needs to be something done about the effectiveness of tactics, i have personally restricted myself from using 2 of the ones i created because they seemed way to powerfull in my Arsenal save.

also, the ukraine league aparently is bugged as the teams won´t buy any new players from outside the ukraine, ugh ...

also, fucking great that i´m sitting at home with the stomach flu and now fucking steam doesn´t work in germany (sth with the login server, no idea when it´s going to be fixed).

yeah, so much for Dinamo Minsk giving me a challenge like i thought they might with a couple kick ass transfers. Halway through the season i´m only 2nd and Minsk is 3rd, at half time i lead 6:0 and win 7:0

After 25 games still tied for with Naftan who have a ridiculous season for the squad they have.

I won another CL game as well, beat Genua at home The other 2 oponents are Real and PSG again ...

I never had problems with injuries with Arsenal or with BATE, this season had a few (but also just recognized that i only had 1 physio left) and now this happened :

I had allready made 3 subs, so that meant i had 7 man on the pitch at the end and then that fucking guy hits a 35 yard Free Kick for me to still win it (oponent is a non league team whose best player is worth 7k)

this here is pretty good for starting out i think : Guide to Football Manager | FM 2012 Guide and Forum

not everything really in depth, but once you know the basics and want to know more you should look into the SI forum and search around there.

also, a couple brilliant posts/tutorials as PDF here : http://www.drflounder.com/images/SFraser.zip

Wayne Rooney has had the greatest season of any player I've ever seen in any Football/Championship Manager season.

He won every single award imaginable. He did this:

He outscored 15 Premier League teams.

Some other numbers: Javier Hernandez added 45 goals and 24 assists.

As a whole the team went 57-5-2, scoring 216 goals, allowing 45. That's an average of 3.38 goals per game.

I bought Javi Martinez from Athletic for £31M. I made no other purchases.

I played a wide, attacking and fluid 4-2-4. DL, DC, DC, DR, MC, MC, AML, AMR, ST, ST.

Fullbacks played supporting roles, one MC was a supporting box-to-box, the other a defending ball winner. Both wingers played an attacking role, Rooney played as an attacking target man, Hernandez as a poacher.

That seems pretty normal. I used to use the wingers pushed way up like that but I got tired of only six guys playing defense. With the way you were scoring though, that's not really an issue I guess. Impressive stuff.

And you know the amazing part? Lionel Messi might beat those numbers.... IRL. This year.

Same tactic I'm using as Juve, albeit with a deep lying playmaker and a box-to-box guy as my 2 MC's rather than yours, and a trequartista/attacking forward combo up front.

I also find the goals easy to come by - although definitely not to THAT extreme.

It's by far my favorite tactic. If I have a good enough DM, I'll use it and offset him with the MC, which can also work wonders.

Who would bet against Ronaldo or Messi scoring 60 in a La Liga season at some point? With 5 games left, 50 goals might be in range this season, especially considering their combined 13 hat-tricks (7 for Ronaldo, 6 for Messi)
