Crackle is free and has access to several movies and TV shows to stream. Not the greatest, but if you don't have Netflix, it could give you something to do.

Read some article on tuaw about FingerKicks getting pirated. Anyways it's a fun little soccer game and it's a fucking dollar. I can maybe understand pirating at higher amounts, but not at a buck.

I just bought an iPad2 today for work. I'm on call a lot now, and with Citrix, I can enter patient orders in wherever I am at on the iPad. Anyway, what are the top iPad games in your opinions? (I'm not sure all iPhone games look good on the iPad.) Also, what are the top general use apps for the iPad?

Sid Meier's Pirates! is like 4 bucks.
Last years Madden was ok. I generally load up on games when they have big holiday sales. |

So...
I picked up Final Fantasy Tactics for iOS. It's steep at $16, but you are getting a full game. That said, it's only $10 on PSN so if you have that, maybe it's more up your alley to play it there. Was pleasantly surprised to see that this is the same version as they released a few years ago for the PSP, with all the new animations and stuff. Definitely going to have to keep a charger handy, as I'll be playing this a bit. Touch controls are OK. Not as great as they could be, but really not too bad. Also, I'm still digging Carcassone. Still digging playing with samifan and FM, too. /tk

One of the greatest boardgames ever is now available, iPad only. Puerto Rico was released this last week. For any of you who are not board game geeks, Puerto Rico was the top rated board game for several years on boardgamegeek.com. It is a euro game, with a role selection mechanic, where each turn you select a role that allows each player to take an action, but since you chose the role, you get to perform the action with a bonus.
The iOS implementation is pretty clean, but I've been playing the game for a couple of years. So it will not be so intuitive for newcomers, because there is a lot information presented that is mostly used to gain subtle advantages over opponents. Last edited by Glengoyne : 08-08-2011 at 03:42 PM. |

I've never played before. Is it an easy game to learn? What can you compare it to as far as other games go?

It is a very clever and fun game of deep strategy. Whether you would consider it easy depends on what we're comparing it to. If you're used to Monopoly, Risk, Taboo style board games, it probably seems very complex. If you have played some Euro or strategy games, like Settlers of Catan, it will seem very approachable I think. I learned it from someone who already knew it, which makes it much easier. You can play it online over the Web at some sites, which is one great place to learn if you don't know anybody who plays. It's one of my very favorite games, so I do highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for a great strategy game. |

Just downloaded Crimson Steam. A simple maritime pirate game set in the Crimson Skies universe. iPad only, I believe. The first "chapter" is free, and you get four or so shortish scenarios. The game is apparently setup to have serial chapters purchased in game. A novel approach, that I'm not sure about. I guess I'll know more after I see how much content my $1.00 opened up. It did extend the first chapter by four or six scenarios in addition to opening up the second chapter.

I'd had the first one for a long while but didn't play it much. When I saw the second one was out and getting good reviews, I trie playing the first one a bit more and could not master any of the second tier tracks. Was just about to delete it from my phone when I saw your comment here and decided to shell out the huge 99 cents () and try #2 last night. It's not easy but I find it easier to gauge your speed than with the first one. The rubber band kind of line is a good visual. The friends challenge portion is especialy cool although I expect I'll get beat a lot. FM

I find it cool in DrawRace2 than when you do multiple runs at the same track, the tire marks remain on the the track.

I have Ticket to Ride, still fiddling around with the solo game - I have never played it as a board game. Interface is very good, but the opposition AI is pretty weak. Multiplayer is surely the way to go. Game is definitely worth a few bucks.

It's a fun game and I'm enjoying it. The only downside is that there's only one computer player to play again, it isn't like Carcassonne where you have a plethora of computer players of varying skill levels. Still it's a great board game for the iPad.

Does anyone know of a GPS app that stays on while you're using the phone? I'm asking for my mom -- I don't know what GPS app she uses now, but she doesn't like how when she's talking on the phone, the GPS won't tell her when she needs to make turns. Anyone have ideas? Thanks!

AURA TIME! It's year 12 and I finally won the Formula One GP. I got a little (lot) lucky. I daisy-chained some auras together to win races and in the end, I was actually tied in points with the Zoom Zooms but it gave me the win. |

I'm hooked on Grand Prix Story as well. I'm in my 4th season. 1st season I made it to Formula One, but didn't win. 2nd season I made it to Formula One and won, then was invited to Chimp Island but didn't win there. 3rd season I won Formula One three years in a row and won Chimp Island and got the banana car. Then I was invited to Kairo race which I wasn't really ready for repair wise and my car pooped out while I was battling for 1st. My backup driver came in 5th.
So now I'm heading into my 4th season. Hopefully I'll improve once again. I have been going the proto car/super car route, but this time I am going open wheeled. I carried over my banana car which should be good for the ice/dirt tracks.

I actually started leveling the banana car with gold auras. I beat Kairoland in about my 6th season. Used the bad ass banana car to get me though Formula No. One and then used my auras to level a super car that I put 4wd, V12, Slicks, Big Wing and Supercharger on. That let me finally eek out a win at Kairoland.
