Positive thoughts to Joe. Cats are incredibly resilient, let's hope tomorrow brings good news.

For all that were following along. Joe is back home and with a clean bill of health it seems. The ER vets did a great job to get him to hold food down and his white blood cell count is all back to normal. He is on antibiotics but seems to doing great now he is back home.

We had to say goodbye to our most loyal companion, Gemma over the weekend. She made it 10 wonderful years until cancer took her before we were ready. Knowing she had a pretty great life doesn't make it any easier.

She was a quarter lab, quarter poodle, and half golden retriever. The happiest of accidents we could have ever asked for. Thank you irresponsible friend of cousin in Ohio

Great pics of Gemma. They give us unconditional love and we try to repay them with a great life. It doesn't make it easier but we hold on to what we have and try to take some relief from the pain in knowing we gave them our best. I've always felt my dogs gave me more than I could ever give them.

Sorry for you loss IND.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our cat to cancer. Cancer is always a shock. She looks wonderful.

Same. My dog, Scully, is just six and a half, but it getting a bit grey already.

Happy 31st Birthday Bobi !! Hope his quality of life continues (and hope he's spread his DNA around in his younger years).

I googled for a breeder near me, unsurprisingly no hits. Think I'll have to visit some forums to find one.

The world’s oldest dog is living it up in his 30s.

Bobi, a Portuguese pooch who was declared the world’s oldest dog by Guinness World Records in February, celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday, according to a news release from Guinness.

Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of Portuguese dog trained to guard livestock, according to his owner. As he’s gotten older, he has had difficulties walking and also experienced a decline in his eyesight.

My turn

Put our 14 year old Lab to sleep today. We had setup an appointment with a mobile vet for Monday but she degenerated pretty quickly so we called a couple vets. One was able to accommodate us late afternoon.

Don't know how vets can do this all the time. It was good process and they said the right things. We were with her at the first shot that sedated her, took about 15-20 min for her to fall asleep, and then the second shot for the end.

Sucks.

Our cat was diagnosed with a tumor today that is inoperable. Luckily we have him for another month or two and my daughter will have time after she returns from college.

My sympathy to both of you.

I lost my 12 year old corgi boy to DM a month ago. Horrible disease, he fought it for two years. He was a happy pup to the end and not in pain but we finally had to make the decision to let him go when his appetite started to go and his breathing was starting to get more labored. Quite sure we timed it right but a horribly hard decision anyway.

Very strange not having a dog in the house for the first time in 22 years. Don't like it at all.

Man, the poor guy's tumor seems to be noticeably bigger every day. I'm pretty confident he's going to make it until Wednesday, but I don't know how much he'll last beyond that.

Today was the day for our cat, the first pet my daughter picked out fourteen years ago. He didn't seem to be in pain, but he stopped eating yesterday and we didn't want him to go without food until Monday. Even when you know it's coming it's still hard. I'm out of town and tonight's show when I talk about having my dog euthanized is probably going to hit me differently.

Our sweet little Vivienne (aka simply Vivi, or oddly, Pooh Girly) crossed the rainbow bridge earlier tonight.

17 years with us, from a runt of the litter shelter rescue until tonight. After a probably precursor episode just before Will left for Japan, to a more serious incident yesterday (followed by a turnaround within 2-3 hours), to an apparently catastrophic incident late today. Most likely guess at this point is a stroke / series of strokes.

Beautiful, smart, and tough as nails, she was first rate from beginning to end. Never a more loving cat that ever was, she very narrowly survived some emergency surgery when she was about 4 years old (NEVER let a cat get near anything with silk, not even a silk tassle on a couch cushion, it's like them swallowing a razor blade basically) and Lord knows she developed some issues and distinct ways after that ordeal but she was well worth every dime and every minute.

She was nothing but love while she was here, may she never know anything but love wherever the rainbow bridge leads.

Rest in peace sweet girl.

Thanks (to one and all).

We're pretty gutted, and I have to say that as horrible as this sort of thing is under any circumstance, the amount of ... triggering ... the situation created has us in even worse shape honestly. Especially for Will
