The 3036 NFL Amateur Draft

We draft in slot #28 and have 12 picks included the #12 one.

Did you know there were only 10 players on my roster with more than 5 years of experience in the NFL?

Our pick arrives at 1/12. What amazingly awesome player do we find?

WR Jerry Platt - Wow. Looks like Marvin Graham level WR. Pots of 90, 98, 94, 71, 100 carrying and 74 endurance.

TE Rick Rivers - Really strong, but I have Brant still.

CB Broderick McMillan - Great corner and great returner

DT Quinn Burnett - Shut down DT. Not super great, but pots of 80, 61, and 76 endurance.

S Dean Dawkins - Potentials of 100, 62, 97 with 90 ints and 74 endurance. Very draftable.

DT Keith Wright - Greener than Burnett but pots of 83 and 88 with 54 endurance

This pick will not be wasted.

Best value, regardless of need:

Jerry Platt, McMillan. But Dawkins is hawt. I gotta gofer.

Who is still left at 28? TE Rivers, WR Platt..

Let’s take a look at TE Rick Rivers:

Pots: 79 run blocking, 100 catching, 85 ypc, 94 catch freq, 96 3rd down catching, 46 carrying, 62 endurance.

He would immediately replace the aging and eroding Carman as my TE.

WR Jerry Platt is tasty, but history has shown me that A). I can regularly get good WR in the 1st-2nd round area, B). Good WR often don’t play like it. I don’t know if I will ever get another Marvin Graham.

Here is Doucette’s skills, by comparison:

79
72
78
68
78 (Carrying)
72 (Endurance)

Now that’s a good WR, but you can see how Platt has the potential to be just flat out better.

How long would I have to go before finding my next studly TE if I pass Rivers right now.

Other great options - LB Jon Leiter is very green but would be an ideal SLB. OG Dave Brown has high potential. CB Donovan Boone is strong.

Sigh. The TE or the WR? The Lady or the Tiger?

I trade WR Ricky Doucette and our 7/28 pick to the Vikings for their 1/31 pick in this year’s draft. I take the WR.

Now I take the TE.

I trade TE Brant Carman to the Giants who don’t have a TE on their roster and didn’t take on in the 1st. I got their 7th. Hopefully he can still get some play.

Draft Recap:

1/12 - S Dean Dawkins, UNLV
1/28 - WR Jerry Platt, Auburn
1/31 - TE Rick Rivers, San Diego State
2/9 - LB Jon Leiter, Tennessee - Martin
2/19 - CB Everett Matuatia, Texas A&M
2/28 - DT Wayne Tatum, Iowa
3/28 - WR Roy Albert, Alabama
4/9 - OG Damon Hopper, Baylor
4/15 - LB Tito Anthony, Western Michigan
4/27 - RB Wayne Darden, Louisville
5/28 - WR Max Narvaez, Morris Brown
6/28 - OG Donnie Hite, Indiana
7/22 - CB Robert Mayes, St. Francis, PA

I reject a trade offer for Harvey Cox

All rookies signed and we have 49 players and 14.6 million in cap room.

UFAs Signed:

S Nick Young, Eastern Kentucky
OT Sherman Ogden, Memphis
WR Dan Farmer, UNLV

The first draftee I ever had in FOF was in FOF2k1 years and years and years ago. He was a safety and his name was Sean Stewart and I took him with pick 22. Stewart went on to have a HOF career with the most picks in the dynasty over one career. I remember he had 92 picks in his career. The most we have had in FOF so far is 75.

Now I‘ve drafted a 1st round S, Dean Dawkins, and he reminds me of Sean Stewart. Just thought I’d mention it now, in case he ends up being the same type of player.

Veteran player on my team on a HOF parabola:

RB Jake Duffy
CB Jim Ackerman
S Jon Prescott
DE Bert Curtin - Who knows what they’ll do with him.
OG Neil Lee - I doubt it though

Only three OG created by the game have had HOF careers. In fact, just 6 O Line have been inducted. It’s hard.

HOF Breakdown:

Players in initial game file do not count, and parentheses is how many have been drafted by me (or on my team for long hauls).

QB - 5 (1)
RB - 5 (3)
TE - 1 (1)
WR - 12 (3)
C - 2 (1)
OG - 3
OT - 1
P - 0
K - 5 (1, Claude Johnson was not one of my draftees though)
DE - 7 (2, Phil Lee and Christian Torres were not my draftees though)
DT - 2 (1)
LB - 2 (1)
CB - 14 (3)
S - 6 (3, Tyrone Rexin was not one of my draftees though)

Okay, let’s see what an influx of talent and a star coach can do.

We finish the preseason 4-0, and have a couple of injuries among backups, but none of my starters have any major injuries.

We begin with 4 games at home, then three on the road. We have a 5 game away streak as wel llater in the season (yuck)

Week 1 - We slap hammer the Ravens 44-14. Duffy is NFL Offensive Player of the Week and Game MVP with a rocking 35 carries, 267 yards, 1 rushing TD, 84 yards receiving, 1 rec TD. Banks and High each got a rushing score. Narvaez caught a score. No picks. OT George with 4 KRB.

Week 2 - Dallas falls 20-16 to us. Duffy the MVP with 29 for 187 and 1, 67 yard sand 1 rec TD too. Prescott with a pick and Bradley with our only sack of the day. Enbysk notches 5 KRB.

Week 3 - 13-10 over the Titans. Duffy again with the MVP 26 for 151, 53 yards receiving. High hit Platt for his first NFL score. 2 sacks by Cox. No picks again.

LB Martinez is questionable but I’ll start him.

Week 4 - We take down the Eagles 38-17. Duffy is NFL Offensive Player of the Week and MVP: 36, 152, 2;, 87 and 2 for 4 Tds total. Ouch, that’s nasty. Dawkins has his first NFL pick and Matiatua with a pick too. OG Lee made 4 KRB too.

LB Tito Anthony is out for 2-3 months with a broken hand. I IR him and sign LB Lawrence Kinder as a backup.

The 3 game away streak begins on the road at the Steelers’ house.

Week 5 - We win 23-17. MVP is newly signed Lawrence Kinder, 11 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumrec. Dugffy held to 71 yards on 21 carries. High his Albert and Duffy for score. Curtin with 1.5 sacks. Rackers with 2.5. Ackerman and Matthews notch picks. OT Poston adds 4 KRB. We win the battle of the undefeateds.

Week 6 - We take down the Jags 30-16. Duffy is MVP: 32, 148, 1, Boone gets a score. S Jon Prescott has a pick ret for a TD> Matuatia, Ackerman and Froehlich also have picks. Sackless. 4 KRB by Enbysk.

Week 7 - We lose at the Giants 10-17. Dufyf held to 79 rushing yards o n19 carries. Platt catches a score. Just one sack. No picks.

Week 8 - BYE

Week 9 - We host the Steelers, we win 45-42. Game MVP and Offensive Player of the Week is Grady High rocking 27 of 44, 453, 4:1. He hit Platt for 3 scores, 190 yards on 13 catches. Rivers catches the ball 4 times for 104 yards and a score. Duffy is dinged and Banks plays the game, notched 124 on 24 and a score. Ackerman and Dawkins grab picks. Rick Rivers catches a 2 pt conversion. 4 KRB by Steussie.

Wow. Good game.

Week 10 - We stupidly drop a game to the Bengals in our place 10-15. Duffy is not played by my coaching staff despite my instructions to do so. I had him in the lineup and depth chart but he did not take a snap. My coaches were given severe hammering verbally. Boone caught a score.

Now our 5 game away stretch of evilness begins.

Week 11 - We blast the Raiders 45-17. Duffy is Game Mvp with 30, 186, 1 score on the gorund and another in the air. Banks rushed for a score too. High hit Boone twice and Kramer. Cox adds 2 sacks. Dawkins has a pick.

OT Will Poston is out for months with a torn ligament, so I IR him. Hueffed will start the rest of the season.

Week 12 - We defy the Bengals 31-6. Duffy MVP with 23, 66, 2; 64 and 1. High is knocked out and Kadela finishes. Boone adds a score. Dawkins, Prescott and Ackerman with picks.

Week 13 - We lose in Baltimore 24-31. Duffy has 24 for 129 and a score. High hits Platt for 104 yards ans a score. Ackerman has a fumble recovered for a score too.

LB Zuchowski is doubtful with a pulled groin. Leiter will start for him.

Week 14 - We score a TD with 40 seconds left to win in Tennessee 31-28. Game MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Week Jake Duffy had 26, 113, 2; 96 rec yards too. Platt and Farmer with scores. Pick by Dawknis, 5 KRB by OT George.

Week 15 - Everett Matuatia is out with a sprained knee ligament which also drops his skills a bit. I IR him. We lose in Boston 24-31. Duffy held to 80 yards. High hits Platt. 2 picks by Dawkins, 1 by Dorrough.

Week 16 - We host and absolutely smack the previous 9-4 Miami Dolphins 33-3. Duffy rocks the MVP with 25 for 98, 1 score; 140 yards receiving, 1 rec TD. Dawkins with a pcik. DT Herb Bradley grabs a fumrec and rushes it in for a score.

Week 17 - We are currently in the #2 spot in the AFC behind Denver. We host and defeat the Jags 17-7. Duffy is Game MVP with 23 for 28, 2 scores. Dakwins and Prescott have picks. 2 sacks by Cox. 4 KRB by Enbysk.

We have the #2 seed in the playoffs.

Others of note:

QB Rufus Richardson, Bears, 2nd team

Okay, several interesting notes here. First of all, Grady High is only the second QB I’ve ever drafted to get All Pro. And Rufus is the third. Only Tony Clements has this nod before now, not even Jerome Allard had it. Secondly, Duffy totally deserved this award. Thirdly, nice to see C Enbysk get an award too. Thirdly, WTF Poston? How did he get it?

Individual Stats:

QB Grady High, 57.6, 3727, 25:11, 92.6 QB Rating

Worse rating, fewer TD and more picks than last year, but got All Pro 1st team and got nothing last year.

RB Jake Duffy: 1755 yards, 4.7 ypc, 14 TD, 60 catches, 777 yards, 8 rec TD - didn’t play in two games either

Just a wonder.

WR Jerry Platt, 49 grabs, 866 yards, 8 TD
WR Wendell Boone, 60, 845, 5
TE Rick Rivers, 32, 515, 1 TD

K Tito Schultz: 31 of 38, 49 long
P Russell Kelly, 39 of 76, 41.3 avg is down

DE Harvey Cox - 13 sacks, 3 blocked passes and 5 QB hurries
DE Bert Curtin - 7.5 sacks, 4 and 5.
DT Herb Bradley, 5 sacks, 2 and 2

CB Jim Ackerman led the team with 70 solo tackles, 4 picks, 12 pasdef (tied for 3rd most pasdef in league)
S Dean Dawkins, 9 picks, 7 pasdef - ROBBED. No All Pro? No Defensive Rookie of the Year? Tied for most picks in the league.
S Jon Prescott, 4 picks, 9 pasdef

Here is All Pro 1st Team Ross Lynn - 3 picks, 6 pasdef, 93 solo tackles, 0 fumrec
Here is Dean Dawkins: 9 picks, 7 pasdef, 53 solo tackles, 0 fumrec

Now, which would you rather have on your team? The one with 40 more tackles or the one with 6 more

picks and 1 more pasdef?

Here’s a 2nd Team All Pro safety: George MacBeth, 6 picks, 4 pasdef, 1 fumrec, 79 tackles

Again, which would you rather have on your team?

Come on now. If you LEAD THE LEAGUE IN PICKS then you should at elast be All Pro at a position where four players make All Pro each year, plus you should be Defensive Rookie of the Year. Damn Dawkins was robbed.

C Archie Enbysk, 34 KRB, 4 sacks allowed - a very good All Pro type of year
OT Chris George, 26 and 7. Not bad. Needs work in both areas, but improvements in KRB continue
OG Jyle Steussie, 26 and 11. Ouch in sacks, but good KRB
OG Neil Lee, 25 and 7. Still solid.

OT Will Poston, who should not have gotten All Pro, what was that?: 10 starts, 16 Krb and 0 sacks allowed. He robbed others.

The voters give and take away.

Offensive Player of the Year: RB Jake Duffy - He led all backs in rushing yards AND led all backs in receiving yards. That’s money.

Defensive Player of the Year: S Dean Dawkins - Rookies normally get RotY and not this, but Dawkins established himself massively and maybe he really IS the new Sean Stewart…

Special Teams Player of the Year: K Tito Shultz, still kicking the blast out of that ball at his age

Rookie of the Year: WR Jerry Platt - For the second straight year a rookie WR led the team in receiving and Platt is here I hope, to stay.

Heart Award: CB Everett Matuatia - Despite being a green rookie dimeback who was injured in the 13th week and IRd, Matuatia had a much better season that starting CB Arnold Dorrough or even nickel back CB Matthews.

Franchise:

12th most valuable franchise
21st best stadium
2nd best roster
17th best support
Tied for 18th best economy
4th worst attend by #, 11th best by %

We lost 89 million. Our coaching costs increased from 33 million annually to 196 million annually.

Hall of Fame:

CB Rufus McGowan - 86%, Indiana, 4 honors, 50 picks, 14 years played - I wouldn’t have said he was HOF material, but what do I know?

We have a need for a new scout.

I hire my old guy for 600k annually for 5 years - still the lowest paid in the league. (My HC is the most expensive in the league). He’s also arguably the best or second best.

Do I franchise Tracy Kramer? Nah.

FA Arrives

41 players and 38 million in cap room.

I extend Will Poston by three years

I trade QB Kevin Kadela to the Pack for their 2/20 pick this year

K Tito Shultz is not interested in an extension

It is time. I call Bert Curtin to my office. Time to cut him and let him go. Sigh. Goodbye friend.

Platt’s skills dropped a bit.

I sign Jake Duffy to a mega deal for four years. Goodbye cap room. I sign Prescott to three more years, OG Neil Lee to two more years.

Players in their final year I have to make calls on:

DT Herb Bradley
OG Kyle Steussie
WR Wendell Boone
LB Alan Smith

I trade OG Steussie to the Cowboys for their 3rd rounder this year

I have plenty of good Ogs in my drafts, and Steussie doesn’t have real starter stats.

I wait on others for a few weeks.

I sign C Archie Enbysk to a three year deal. He’s good. 33 and 34 KRB in the last two years is good stuff.

I decide to bite the bullet and sign DT Herb Bradley to a professional contract, the first I‘ve had for a DT in a long time. I like him, and he’s a WVU grad. He still has room to grow. Averaged 4+ sacks a year for the first three years, which is solid.

I’ll wait until post draft to come to a decision on Wendell Boone and Alan Smith.

The 3037 NFL Draft

Needs: FB, WR perhaps, LB perhaps, CB perhaps maybe, backup QB, K, DE

This is an easy pick. There is a very developed DE still on the board who can step right in and begin the sacks.

Draft Recap -

1/36 - DE Dan Covington, South Carolina
2/20 - CB Bob Pearson, Rutgers
2/36 - WR Wayne Peabody, Oklahoma State
3/1 - RB Bart Berry, Virginia
3/11 - K Darren Maloney, Stanford
3/36 - OG Nicky Lindsay, Clemson
4/36 - FB Kendall Milam, NC State
5/36 - TE Scottie Broyles, Mississippi
6/36 - S Rufus Reid, Oklahoma State - KR/PR too
7/36 - C Bubba Baxter, Northern Arizona

I cut K Tito Shultz

I sign UFA:

DT Van Marshall, Stanford
OT William Montgomery, Mississippi
FB Tyrus Tuck, Wisconsin
QB James Blackwell, Mississippi State
S Rickey Wheat, Texas
LB Wade McConnell, Tulsa

I trade LB Alan Smith to the Eagles for their 2nd rounder next year

I’m keeping Boone despite the trade value I could receive.

I trade my 6th and Wendell Boone to the Pack for their 1st this year. I was hoping Boone would be a long term WR but the finances are not there right now. Not with a new DT, C and RB professional contract on my team.

Players with professional contracts:

OG Neil Lee
CB Jim Ackerman
S Jon Prescott
P Russell Kelly
QB Grady High
RB Jake Duffy
C Archie Enbysk
OT Will Poston
DE Harvey Cox
LB Joe Martinez
LB Craig Zuchowski
DT Herb Bradley

Total - 12, and that‘s with the more expensive QB and RB in there. That’s half of my Offensive and Defensive starters.

OG Nicky Lindsay, 22/74
C Bubba Baxter, 20/68
WR Wayne Peabody, 32/61

QB and RB and WR Update:

RB Rick Caldwell - Arizona, been a starter but got injured and now gets like 800 yards/season or so.

QB Johnny Hernandez - Baltimore, starter, had a few down years and does not look that great anymore.

QB Rufus Richardson - Bears, starter, fresh off All Pro season, looks really, really good still. Has started for Bears every year since I’ve traded him to them, and had many good years. They really benefited from this trade waaaay back in 2029. I traded them a franchise QB.

RB Mickey Buntain - Denver, backup RB for them

QB Kevin Kadela - Green Bay, could be starter, could be backup, right there with another.

WR Wendell Boone - Green Bay, starter this year

TE Brant Carman - Giants, starter, had a solid year last year

WR Danny Parrish, - Eagles - still a starter in his 17th year, I drafted him at Richmond.

RB Maurice Carlisle - Pittsburgh, starter for a power franchise, skills are starting to erode but has been really solid, getting 1100+ yards twice and 800+ the other two times, but one of those was an 9 game season ended by injury.

WR Eugene Jonas - San Diego, been a starter every year - not a great one though

RB Butch Carlson - San Francisco, been a starter every year since we traded him to the 49ers years ago in 2030. Been a great trade for the 49ers. Over 7 years with them, has had an 1100+ season every year, plus never missed a game due to injury. Some years, 1400 or 1500 yards. Great player for them. This is why the NFL still trades with me, because I trade players like Carlson, Carlisle, Hernandez and so forth.

WR Ricky Doucette - San Francisco, just signed. I expect he’ll be the starter/

WR Pete Waddle - San Francisco, started for them last year, not a good season

So the 49ers have two of my WR and my RB. Funny. Somebody get these guys a real QB.

FB Tracy Kramer - Tennessee, He will be the starter this year

In the preseason, OG Damon Hopper is injured with a torn calf muscle for several months and I IR him. His skills drop too. I sign OG Mario York of New Mexico State. Donnie Hite will be starting. Og is the place I can take an injury like that without any problem.

We finish the exhibition games 4-0. Joe Martinez is questionable but will start anyway.

Week 1 - We edge the Cowboys 24-23 at our place. Grady High is MVP with 21 of 36, 324, 2:0. He hit Albert and Narvaez for scores. TE Rick Rivers caught 6 balls for 119 yards. Duffy has 17 rushes, 68 yards and a score. Hite has 4 KRB is his debut. No picks.

Duffy is questionable but I WILL start him next week. OT Chris George is out for 2-3 months with a broken wrist. I IR him. I sign OT Norman Coker of Maryland. Heuffed will start the rest of the season. I can’t take too many more O Line injuries like this, I don’t have that much more depth lying around. Hite and Hueffed are great players, but I don’t have much more depth outside of C.

Week 2 - We host and defeat the Bears 29-21. MVP is Rick Rivers with 8 catches, 108 yards, and 3 TD. Duffy was dinged and did not play. Argh. Dawkins with a pick and Pearson has his first as well. DE Cox got us a safety plus 2.5 sacks. DT Bradley notched 3 sacks. DE Covington got 2 himself. We took the QB DOWN! Enbysk - 5 KRB.

Week 3 - We travel to Cincinnati and emerge victorious 23-17, Duffy MVP - 29 carries, 201 yards, 1 score. Platt - 6 catches, 136 yards. Peabody with a score. Ackerman with a pick. DT Henderson with 1.5 sacks.

Bob Pearson is questionable and I bench him for a game or 3.

Week 4 - We host and lose to the Titans 24-23. Duffy just 76 yards. Rivers 8 catches, 136 yards, 1 score. 2 sacks by Zuchowski. No picks. DT Henderson with a fum rec for a TD.

We begin a mini-streak of 3 away games.

Week 5 - We lose in Pittsburgh 12-27. High throws up FOUR picks. Ugh. Rivers caught our lone score. Martinez and Ackerman with picks.

Week 6 - We hit up the Jags 22-17. Game MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Week is Jake Duffy with 33 rushes, 142 yards, 2 TD. High was knocked out of the game. Parker was fine, no score,s no picks, moved the ball. Ackerman with a pick. OT Poston notches 4 KRB. Just one sack.

Week 7 - BYE

S Dawkins, LB Leiter, and DE Covington are all questionable and all will play.

Week 8 - We hit up the Titans in their place, returning the loss they deal in our place in Week 4. We win 34-20. Ackerman is MVP with a 74 yard pick and return and another pick too. Dawkins also has a pick and return, 33 yards. Duffy held to 66 yards but got a score. Platt gets a TD Catch. Matiatua grabs a pick.

DT Henderson is out VERY LONG TERM with a stretched triceps muscle. I IR him. My third IR of a starter this year. DT Wayne Tatum will start, and he’s fine.

Week 9 - We arrive back home in time to Bitch Hammer the Steelers 41-13. That’s our rival we pounded. Duffy is Game MVP and NFL OPotW with 24 carries, 140 yards, 1 rush TD; 7 catches, 120 yards, 1 rec TD. High hits Albert twice for scores and rushes for one too. No picks. Just one sack. Enbysk 4 KRB.

DT Tatum is doubtful. I sign DT Kennedy Holdhusen as a stop gap starter.

Week 10 - We defeat the Chargers on the road 20-14. High is MVP with 25 of 37, 270, 2:1. Platt and Albert with score.s Duffy held to 52 yards. 1.5 sacks each by Cox and Covington. Pickless.

Week 11 - 27-15 over the Jags in our place, Duffy is NFL OPotW and MVP with 309 rushes for 173 yards, 6 catches for 73 yards. Platt got 2 TD and Rivers 1. Covington 1.5 sacks. No picks again. 5 KRB by Lee.

Two injuries of note. OT Hueffed is doubtful with a hyper extended knee. DE Harvey Cox is doubtful with a broken hand.

I bench Cox. OJ Rackers will start.

I don’t have depth for Hueffed, I bench him and move an OG to the starting spoit for a few weeks.

Week 12 - We defeat the Bengals 27-17. Rivers is MVP again with 9 catches, 146 yards, 1 score. Platt has the other TD pass. Duffy held to 45 yard son 11 carries and a rush TD. 1.5 sacks by Martinez, no picks again. Secondary, seriously, WTF? No picks in FOUR game. That’s silly.

Week 13 - We travel to and lose at Minnesota 17-24. Duffy has 92 yards. High hit Platt. 2 sacks by Covington. NO PICKS AGAIN.

At 9-3, we are tied with the Steelers.

Week 14 - We defeat the Ravens 30-20. Prescott is Game MVP with a 68 yard pick and return. Snyder also had a pick. No sacks. Milam has 4 KRB. Duffy held to 51 yards rushing and 1 score. Platt catches a TD.

Pittsburgh won too.

Week 15 - We both win this week, and Denver dies in our stadium 24-10. Duffy MVP with 27, 104, 1. Platt and Narvaez with scores. 2.5 sacks by DT Holdhusen. Picks by Pearson and Ackerman.

DE Harvey Cox is back next week. Our last two games are on the road as we try to keep pace with the Steelers.

Week 16 - We travel to Miami and defeat the Dolphins 34-23 and Duffy is NFL OPotW and MVP: 31 rushes, 219 yards, 3 score, 67 catches, 82 yards. High tossed up three picks - yuck. Rufus Reid with a 103 yard KO Ret TD. Holdhusen with 1.5 sacks. No picks.

Pittsburgh lost!!! We are one game up now.

OT Hueffed is back.

Week 17 - We travel to and lose at Baltimore 17-20 but luckily, the Steelers lost too so we won the AFC Central. Duffy had 139 yards and a score. High was injure dearly. Parker hit Duffy for another score. No picks. Just one sack.

We are tied with the 12-4 Lone Stars for the top record in the AFC so we have a bye in the playoffs. We win the tiebreaker and have the #1 spot.

The 2037 AFC Playoffs:

Wild Card Weekend

#6 seed Tennessee upends #3 seed and favorite Colts 35-28. The Colts had the best defense in the NFL allowing just 195 points in 16 games and were at home, so they were heavily favored but our division showed up again.

#4 seed Miami, on the other hand, devoured #5 seed Pittsburgh 42-6. Ouch.

Divisional Weekend:

We host the #6 seed Titans.

We split this series earlier., They won in our place, and we in theirs. Here we go.

We win 34-9.

MVP - Duffy - 35 rushes, 144 yards, 4 rush TD; 5 catches, 80 yards

Platt - 3 catches, 124 yards

No picks.

OG Lee - 8 KRB !!!!!

This ties a playoff record with Ron Eaves who set it in 2005 for the Colts against the Jets and was tied by Scott Pintsak, my player, for Albuquerque against the Broncos in 2021.

Miami travels to and takes out the #2 seed Lone Stars 21-19.

The 3037 AFC Championship:

Your #1 seed 12-4 Huntington Highlanders host

Your #4 seed 11-5 Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins won two straight on the road against the #3 and # 2 seeds to get here. We won on at home once.

The Dolphins CRUSH us 32-7. High was injured and Parker finished the game. Our sole TD was a TD catch by Duffy.

Ouch.

The 3037 Super Bowl

Chicago 34
Miami 12

Another win by a Central division team

The last few Super Bowl winners:

2037 Chicago - NFC Central
2036 Huntington - AFC Central
2035 Pittsburgh - AFC Central
2034 Pittsburgh - AFC Central
2033 Tampa Bay - NFC Central
2032 Oakland - AFC West
2031 Tennessee - AFC Central
2030 Huntington - AFC Central
2029 Tampa Bay - NFC Central
2028 Minnesota - NFC Central
2027 Huntington - AFC Central
2026 Green Bay - NFC Central
2025 Richmond - NFC Central
2024 Cleveland (Huntington Later) - AFC Central
2023 Cleveland (Huntington Later) - AFC Central
2022 Richmond - NFC Central

That’s a lot of Central domination. And it’s not been just one team. Every NFC Central team has a Super Bowl during that streak except for Detroit. That’s 15 of the last 16 Super Bowls going to a Central team. Wow. 8 victories by AFC Central, 7 by NFC Central. 5 by us in the past 15 years.

Others of Note:

Duffy is no surprise for a repeat. Rivers and Hite are nice, young and new additions. Hite is nice because he was a backup forced into a starting role by injury. Ackerman continues. High is a nice plus. But, hello Joe Martienz! Finally an All Pro for a LB in forever!

Individual Stats:

QB Grady High - 66.1 % - massive improvement. 3622 yards, 23:16 ratio, 96.6 rating.

He become much more efficient, but the TD:Int ratio was dangerous. I’m not sure this was an All Pro season, frankly.

RB Jake Duffy - 335 rushes, 1623 yards, 13 rush TD, 4.8ypc; 65 catches, 752 yards, 2 rec TD.

That’s about my ideal for a receiving back. More TD and you feel you are going to him too much. 750 yards and 2-3 TD is fair for a great receiving back.

TE Rick Rivers, 68 catches, 995 yards, 7 TD
WR Jerry Platt, 62, 966 yards, 8 TD
WR Roy Albert, 37, 536, 4

Rivers came 5 yards form having the only 1000+ yard season for a TE I’ve ever had. Still THE best receiving season ever for a TE on my team. I like my receivers. Albert doesn’t need much, and Platt + Rivers + Duffy are all I need.

KR Rufus Reid had 2 KR RET TD and the best KR average in the league.

K Darinn Maloney, 32 of 43, long of 56, 40 of 41 PAT
P Russell Kelly, 26 of 56 in 20, 42.3 average

Low # of punts for Kelly. Maloney with a fine season as a rookie with space to grow.

DE Dan Covington, 12 sacks, 2 blocked passes, 3 QB hurries
DE Harvey Cox - 12 starts, 9.5 sacks, 3 and 2
DT Kennedy Holdhusen, 5.5 sacks in 8 starts. A good patch.
DT Herb Bradley, 4.5 sacks, 3 and 0.

LB Joe Martinez, 98 solo tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 pick, 7 pasdef,

CB Jim Ackerman, 6 picks, 10 pasdef - both led team.
S Dean Dawkins, 2 picks, 8 pasdef, 92 tackles.
CB Bob Pearson - 8 starts, 2 picks, 4 pasdef
S Jon Prescott - 1 and 2.

WTF Jon?

C Archie Enbysk - 30 KRB, 7 sacks allowed
OG Donnie Hite - 25 and 3
OG Neil Lee - 24 and 8
OT Hueffed - 10 starts, 14 and 3
OT Poston - 13 and 5

WTF Poston?

I am really surprised by Will Poston and Jon Prescott. I expect players with professional contracts to do much, much better.

Franchise Snapshot -

9th most valuable
21st best stadium
THE best roster
Tied for 14th best support
18th best economy
5th lowest attend by #, 9th most full by %

We lost 107 million

Hall of Fame:

4 make the cut including….

C Jesse Tate, 83%, Rutgers, 5 honors, 15 years, 435 KRB - only 37 sacks allowed in whole career. Totally worthy, high KRB low sacks allowed, 5 honors (remember there are just two C All Pro each year, it‘s very competitive). I let Tate go for other C but totally worth this slot.

Added to the Richmond Hall of Fame is CB Jesse Pirtle, but Pirtle, from WVU, will not make the HOF cut. Others players of mine to make the team hall but not the NFL hall include QB Jerome Allard and RB Troy Santoro.

The winningest ten teams over the last 38 years:

#1 Albuquerque - .629
#2 San Antonio - .579
#3t Green Bay - .572
#3t Denver - .572
#5 New England - .559
#6 St. Louis - .553
#7 Huntington (When I took over, had the 2nd lowest rating here of any team) - .549
#8 Detroit - .548
#9 Baltimore - .535
#10 New Orleans - .534

The lowest five:

#32 New York Jets - .436
#33 Corpus Christi - .433
#34 Buffalo - .426
#35 Austin - .421
#36 San Diego - .399

This tells you expansion teams normally suck, but with me at the helm…..

The highest % winning three teams in the playoffs are me, Richmond, and Albuquerque.

18 teams have not won a Super Bowl in the last 38 years. The team with the most is Huntington/Cleveland which had 1 as Cleveland when I took over, and I have guided to 5 Super Bowls in 15 years.

The Saints have 5. Albuquerque 4. San Antonio 3.

FA Time

38 players under my roster, 20 million in cap room. We have three 1st rounders. Let me look at my team.

I extend QB Grady High by three more years.

I trade LB Craig Zuchowski to the Colts for their 3/9 this year and 2nd rounder next. Zuchowski has never done that good for me and it’s time to trim some fat from my roster.

Despite his age, Ackerman is gold and I resign him for two more years no question. Dude has 6 All Pros and three in the least three years. Ackerman will be in the HOF no question. He has a better pedigree than a lot of the corners making the HOF. He has an outside chance at the current Most Picks in a Career leader Dave Fling, who has 71 in the past 38 years. Ackerman has 56 and is just in his 11th year. Ackerman has only missed 4 games in his career. That’s a good shot. He just needs 16 more in however many years he has left.

I add a year to Martinez’s deal.

P Kelly is not interested in re-upping. Smells like a franchise tag.

The Raiders, without a QB on their roster, send us their 3rd this year and 6th next for QB Rod Parker.

Players in the last year of their contract of note:

DE Harvey Cox
CB Everett Mantuatia
LB Jon Leiter
OT Bobby Heuffed
OT Chris George
WR Roy Albert
DE OJ Rackers
FB Kendall Milam
P Russell Kelly
OG Donnie Hite

That’s a real hit to my roster. I can’t resign them all and I can’t trade them all, but they are all quality players of various degrees.

Neither OT Hueffed nor George has really astounded me by great play. However, it would only cost me 4 million more a year to sign George and just for one more year. That’s a decent deal. I sign Chris George to one more year.

I trade OT Hueffed to the Bears for their 3rd and 6th next year

I trade DE Harvey Cox to the Rams for their 2nd and 7th next year. Cox just wasn‘t playing up to a professional contract.

LB Jon Leiter is not interested in a new contract.

I’ma keep Hite on my team and start him, see if he can keep up to the previous year or better. I can RFA next year. Same with Leiter and Albert I suppose.

I trade CB Mantuatia to the Rail Runners for their 3/5 pick this year.

Tons of great players in the FA pool. I’m pretty much staying away from FA anymore, in case you hadn’t noticed.

The 3038 NFL Draft

Needs: S, FB, backup QB of quality, perhaps starting level OT, LB, DE

Backup - RB, QB, TE, WR, OTx2, DE, DT, LB, CB x3, S

Our first pick is at 1/13 and I hope to get someone good.

Our pick arrives. Let’s study it.

There’s just one player on the board I think is worthy of this pick, so I take him. A gorgeous OT.

What about the 25th pick?

I look at my need.s No DE fits here. I could force a S but my scout says that McKnight is the best prospect on the board, and he’s a LB, so I take him.

Our pick arrives at 33. I force, and this is a force, Clyde del Greco, but do not expect too much from him, this is a need only pick.

Draft Recap:

1/13 - OT Roosevelt Morin, Minnesota - Morris
1/25 - LB Anthony McKnight, Virginia
1/33 - S Clyde del Greco, Notre Dame
2/24 - CB Kelvin Dodge, Yale
2/33 - LB Jason Northcutt, Syracuse
3/5 - QB Monty Kreuger, Ohio State
3/9 - RB Jim Simmons, California
3/15 - DE Bart Pyle, Oregon State
3/33 - OT Lawrence Farrell, Vanderbilt
4/33 - WR Hunter Carlisle, Clemson - KR/PR too
5/33 - C Conrad Shea, WVU
7/13 - CB Quentin Vidal, Mississippi
7/33 - S OJ Austin, Auburn

I sign some players

UFA:

QB Kevin Renner, Eastern Kentucky
FB Edwin Gaylor, Abilene Christian
TE Artie Stephenson, Duke
CB Raymond Garboushian, Southern Utah
DT Jeffrey Jordan, Boston College
DE Eddie Giefeke, Illinois

A camping we do go!

We sold 36,900 tix

I laugh at trade offers for Ackerman and Lee. Why go after my vets?

Rookie-Valuation Time

OT Roosevelt Marin, 23/85 - Green but great potential
LB Anthony McKnight, 15/84 - Same as above but even more wet behind the ears
RB Jim Simmons, 37/77 - Solid
LB Jason Northcutt, 14/75 - tres verte
C Conrad Shea, 43/72 - And ready to start too
S Clyde del Greco, 10/69 - A real forced player
CB Kelvin Dodge, 24/62 - Decent
DE Bart Pyle, 5/61 - The Green Death
QB Marty Krueger, 27/60 - Meh
OT Lawrence Farrell, 2/53
CB Quinn Vidal, 10/43
S OJ Austin, 30/35
WR Hunter Carlisle, 28/28

Not that great of a class but two top players that could be something.

I trade OT Chris George to the Rattlesnakes for their 2nd and 5th rounders. Now I can give Marin a full starting role. I sign OT UFA Ron Vieira, Virginia.

I trade C Bubba Baxter to the Jets for their 5th rounder.

Professional Contracts:

QB Grady High
RB Jake Duffy
OT Will Poston
C Archie Enbysk
OG Neil Lee
P Russell Kelly
DT Herb Bradley
LB Joe Martinez
CB Jim Ackerman

And that’s it. Just 9 professional contracts on a Cap of 298 million, and we are 13 under. Only 8 of my 22 starters are on professional contracts. Only 11 players have been on my team for longer than 3 years. Only 7 for longer than 5. Only 5 for longer than 6.

This is what a professional QB and RB does to your roster at times.

Players I think are on a HOF track among these 9: High, Duffy, Poston perhaps, Enbysk perhaps, Lee who knows, Ackerman.

Of my other players, who would I say has the best chance of professional contract-dom?

S Dean Dawkins, TE Rick Rivers, WR Jerry Platt.

A look at Neil Lee:

This is his 12th year in the league:

He has 4 All Pros

He has 269 KRB.
He has allowed 47 sacks

Compare to other HOF OGs created by the computer

Deon Thompson has 445 KRB, 4 honors, and allowed 93 sacks.
Bert Spain, 415, 4, 78 allowed
Horace Peters, 456, 7, 55 sacks allowed

And that’s it.

How many KRB will Lee end up with?

If he averages 24 for 4 for more years, let’s say, that’s an extra 96, which puts him at 375. 4 honors, 375, and perhaps 60 sacks allowed. HOF?

I don’t know.

I look for OG in other team’s HOF that did not make the NFL HOF. Perhaps I can find evidence of that somewhere.

There are none. No OG has made the team HOF but not the NFL HOF over the past 38 years.

Suck.

I don’t think he is Canton-Bound. There are other OG that never made it - Scott Pintsak, Orlando Wells, Bruce Holliday perhaps.

Lee has only missed 5 games in his career as a starter. He did not start as a rookie. He last three years have been 24, 25, and 24 KRB.

I’m curious as to what a player has to do to get HOF as a OG, because the three there (generated by the computer) have ridiculous resumes. It is just a lack of next level OGs, or is it a super high threshold?

Among all O Line, everyone has at least 415 KRB.

I doubt it, but we’ll see. Consider all of the great Oline that have been made over the years. Do I honeslty believe no one has hit the 350+ barrier? Hmm, let’s look at the career records.

Most KRB and not in the Hall of Fame:

Hunter Van Horne, 426
OG Scott Pintsak, 415
Dale Tubbs - 406
Desmond Morse, 395
Robbie Compton, 393
OT Charles Dodge, 385

And many more.

In other words, you aren’t even guaranteed HOF berth even with 400+ KRB. Look at Pintsak. In retrospect, I think he was robbed, didn’t even get a Team HOF berth?

No way Neil Lee is making it. If he played 6 more years at 25 KRB each year, he’d only have 419 and then would probably not make it. I don’t think he’d do that.

So, why keep Lee around?

In order to get 450 KRB in a 14 year career, you have to average, average mind you, 32 KRB each year. That includes rookie years, and later in your career years when your skills are falling. That is ridiculous as an expectation.
