Exactly! I tried to joke with him on the phone, but, he didn't understand what I was saying and he ruined a good joke. I told him that the surgery went on longer than expected and welcome to the year 2021.

So which is it? A postal service vehicle or a personal vehicle? I understand both statements. They just don't jive with each other in my opinion.

In some small towns I've been in, a person's personal vehicle is their postal service vehicle.

Further, I've seen retired Postal Service Jeeps for sale.

So it sounds to me like this mail carrier was driving a retired PS Jeep, which she bought on her own, but uses in her job as a mail carrier. Makes sense to me, but maybe I'm used to smaller towns where the mail carrier doesn't always drive around in a white box-shaped truck...

When it's in service, IIRC, it is a postal service vehicle, regardless of who owns it.

As TK mentioned, there's frequently more mail delivered in many towns by carriers driving their own vehicles than those owned by the USPS. One of the diffs between "city routes" and "rural routes" is usually who owns the vehicle.

Yeah, our mail is delivered by postal employees driving private vehicles. They have a magnetic sticker on them that says "postal delivery vehicle".

Ok, that did not occur to me. I've lived in a town that barely had 2,000 people in it and now that I think about it, I can't remember seeing an actual red, white and blue post office jeep there. Thanks everyone.

Funny sequence of random things happened at work today...well, funny to me.

1) Get Chinese for lunch. Fortune cookie fortune: "A bold and dashing adventure is in your future within the year." (I can't tell if this is a threat or not... on Twitpic) My current spacecraft is about to enter its final phase of testing before we ship it to the launch site and launch it. To put it mildly, from now until about August is going to be very exciting and very tense. I am worried about a "bold and dashing adventure" during this crazy time.

2) While review flight operations procedures for said spacecraft launch, Major Tom came onto my iPod. Now I'm thinking it's an omen or a portent.

3) A little later, I'm writing up a risk form related to the upcoming testing. Basically, this form acknowledges that there is a small risk that we might drop the spacecraft. The form asks what the cost and schedule impact of the risk is and so I write "the spacecraft would be lost" and immediately have the Gilligan theme running through my head.

I really really really hope I haven't jinxed this spacecraft.

Nope - but I didn't realize new material was confirmed. I know they said they would be working on stuff, but I wasn't sure if it would see the light of day.

No confirmation yet, but I'm hopeful considering all the festival dates they're doing this summer.

The world has been deprived of John Squire's guitar for far too long.

Building my new kitchen countertop.

The first piece of the formica went on no problem. Applied contact cement. Waited. Put the two pieces together. Routered the edges. Voila!

The second piece, despite doing EXACTLY the same thing won't stick.

Be careful with that contact cement, it could lead to a hard to explain ER visit.... from what I have been told.

Holy crap I need sleep. Stuck on a boring graveyard shift for this go live and they (day shift) have been raping the three of us. They show up whenever the hell the feel like rolling in. Yesterday complaining about "being tired" because they went out after they got done working and stayed out until 3 AM.

I was freaking exhausted because I just was roped into a 20 hour day thanks to seemingly being he only one that can give a demonstration to clients (that after being awake for about 48 straight hours and I know I was barely putting thoughts together). Hearing how tired they were because of their own damn decisions almost had me dropping bodies but I was too tired at that point.

I'm tired and babbling so I guess that should fit this thread.

So, working tech support, even remotely from home while my leg is getting better.. you don't have time to sit edown and have a leisurely lunch. If you're on a call,m you're expected to work the call through.. if you're not on a call, that phone could ring at any second.

So I decided to have some pizza rolls for lunch.. to avoid a ton of cleanup, I put aluminum foil over a glass pan (makes cleaning a lot easier)..

So the pizza rolls are done,. and I head over to the kitchen and dump them on the plate.. to save time I put the pan in the sink and in preperation for putting it oun the drying rack, filled it with cold water.

the pyrex pan didn't break.. it basically disintegrated. Thank god it wasn't an explosion, but there was about 200 pieces of glass in the sink.. still hot too.

Luckily I wasn't injured, but.. damn.. I swear there was a couple minutes of "WTF Just happened.. to.. HOLY SHIT that just happened to HOW THE FUCK did that happen"?

I'm getting metal pans from now on

Nice to know I can still commit acts of tremendous stupidity at times.. *sarcasm*
