The 3038 NFL Super Bowl
Your AFC Champion #1 seed 13-3 Huntington Highlanders vs. Your NFC Champion #1 seed 15-1 St. Louis Rams We lost vs. the Rams in the first week of the season, as you’ll recall. If we lose, we interfere with a long Central winning streak but this will be tough. We lose badly. 48-10. Ugly. I’ll skip the stats. Our lone score was a High to Platt reception.

Individual Stats:
QB Grady High, 3874 yards, 66.4%, 18:9 ratio, 101.8 rating. More passing TD please. 4th most passing yards, best QB rating, best % - 10th best QB rating in a season ever. RB Jake Duffy, 428 carries, 1860 yards, 4.3 ypc, 25 TD; 64 catches, 814 rec yards, 4 rec TD Wow. Set a new record for most TD in a season rushing. In 6 seasons, has already rushing for 9994 yards. WR Jerry Platt, 73 grabs, 1125 yards, 2 TD TE Rick Rivers, 53, 763, 5 WR Roy Albert, 51, 689, 7 Yay Platt! It’s bee a while since we’ve seen a 1000+ season. We run so much. I think I’m just going to do Rotisserie WR in one spot and Platt, Rivers and Duffy as my real receivers. S Rufus Reid had a KR TD, 6th best KR Average in the league. K Darrin Maloney, 31 of 35, long of 58, 49/49 PAT P Russell Kelly, 42 of 78 in 20, 40.9 average Average on Kelly keeps going up and down. Maloney had a great season, a few more FGA and the requisite FGM and he woulda gotten All Pro I’m sure, great % conversion. DE Don Covington, 14 sacks, 1 blocked pass, 7 QB Hurries DE OJ Rackers, 12 sacks, 3 and 7 DT Herb Bradley, 2 fumrec, 4.5 sacks, 2 and 4 LB McKnight led the team with 71 solo tackles, 2 sacks, LB Joe Martinez, 69 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 and 1, 1 pick, 6 pasdef - 12 starts I honestly believe that if Martinez had played the four games he sat due ot injur he would have All Pro-ed again with his high sack count. CB Bob Pearson, 6 picks, 3 pasdef CB Jim Ackerman, 5 picks, 8 pasdef S OJ Austin, backup S, 4 picks and 4 pasdef S Del Greco, 3 and 3 S Dean Dawkins, 3 and 8 C Archie Enbysk, 39 KRB, 5 sacks allowed OT Will Poston, 35 and 4 OT Roosevelt Morin, 27 and 9 OG Donnie Hite, 24 and 5 Enbysk and Poston had great seasons and Morin with a good rookie season. Team Awards:
Offensive Player of the Year: WR Jerry Platt - It’s been a while since we had a 1000+ season, and he had 1125 and was a reliable target for High the whole season. Thanks Platt! Defensive Player of the Year: DE Don Covington 14 sacks is very respectable. It’s very close to All pro you can smell it. Improvement over last year is great! Special Teams Player of the Year: K Darrin Maloney. Sometimes I have to really stretch to find someone here but this year I had two good candidates. I went with the sophomore player with the hot leg and a great % completion. Rookie of the Year” OT Roosevelt Morin - Great KRB shows solid potential for the future, especially considering how green he was Heart Award: S OJ Austin - Backup S notches 4 picks. That’s a solid season for the 7th round rookie.

Let’s hit FA
33 players, 54 million in cap room. I extend Martinez by a year, C Enbysk by 3 years. Dean Dawkins gets his first professional contract, as does TE Rick Rivers and WR Jerry Platt. I cut Neil Lee and wish him well in FA. Darrin Maloney is also playing contract hard ball and doesn’t want to reup. P Kelly is playing the same game. Other players of note in final season: DT Herb Bradley DT Tatum K Maloney P Kelly sorta I trade RB Bart Berry to the Jaguars for their 2.6 pick. Berry is the immediately the best back on their roster and I liked him a lot. Best backup RB I’ve had since the Caldwell, Carlson, Carlisle days in the waning years of Pender’s career. I want to hold off on DT decisions until post-draft. Nah, never mind. I trade the Ram’s own 7th rounder and DT Herb Bradley to them for their 1/36 pick. Okay, let’s move to the draft.

The 2039 Amateur Draft
Needs: FB, DE, DT, S perhaps. Backups: QB, RBx2, FB, TE, WRx2, OGx2, OT, DE, DTx2, LBx2, CB, Here we go. I have the 1/35 and 1/36 picks. Who do I want? DT Marvin Solymos is a great DT for this position. He’s more of a 1/20 DT than a 1/35 DT. Easy pick. Then I go for the solid DE over other options. Now we have two picks at the top of the 2nd. Who else interests me? A starter caliber OG does. Then I take a player that has been exciting me. QB Kinney is great. Draft Recap: 1/35 - DT Marvin Solymos, Albany 1/36 - DE Sam Walden, Iowa 2/4 - OG Steve Coffey, Georgia 2/6 - QB Ronnie Kinney, Syracuse 2/23 - WR Roger Finley, Stanford 2/35 - LB Vincent Newsome, Arkansas 2/36 - DT Ian Agrawall, Florida State 3/15 - FB Courtney Pierce, Georgia Southern 3/35 - WR Kennedy Owens, Hofstra 4/35 - RB Joseph Lincoln, South Carolina 5/12 - QB Bert LeFleur, Virginia Tech 5/35 - S Hunter O’Rourke, Texas Southern 6/10 - OT Ian Gordon, Fairfield 6/15 - LB Skip Bellamy, Purdue 6/23 - CB Will Perkins, Eastern Michigan 6/35 - FB Roger Comia, Northern Illinois 7/35 - RB Donald Feely, Kentucky I trade DT Tatum Wayne to Austin for a 2nd rounder next year. I don’t know if I have ever drafted 17 players before in a normal dynasty. P Kelly is signed to a franchise contract. I sign a few UFA: TE Greg Tanner, Tulsa OG Matthew Sweeney, Oregon State DE Barry Longoria, Brigham Young DT Alan Frederick, Louisiana State DT Ralph Huntley, Syracuse

Camp Now Please!
Season Tickets - 38,200 The Steelers made me a 2nd round trade for for DT Frederick, a UFA signing. I would love to do that, but that does not seem realistic to me. I got some offers for OT Morin and TE Rivers. Both are rejected. LB McKnight busted a bit this year. Rookie Ratings: LB Vincent Newsome, 22/90 QB Bert LeFleur, 20/83 - BOOOM! DE Sam Walden, 28/79 DT Marvin Solymos, 35/77 OG Steve Coffey, 18/77 DT Ian Agrawall, 36/74 WR Roger Finley, 25/74 QB Ronnie Kinney, 36/69 OT Ian Gordon, 13/64 LB Skip Bellamy, 18/60 FB Courtney Pierce, 24/52 WR Kennedy Owens, 21/50 FB Roger Comia, 25/44 RB Donald Feely, 40/40 CB Will Perkins, 14/39 S Hunter O’Rourke, 38/38 RB Joseph Lincoln, 26/32

Grady High is Game MVP with 23 of 35, 299 yards, 1:0 ratio and hits Peabody for that score. Duffy held to 54 yards but with 2 scores. McKnight grabbed a second pick. That pretty much stopped any chance of Duffy getting 2000 yards rushing. If he gets 205 yards in the final game, he gets it. Week 17 -23-20 loss to the Titans. They kick a FG in the final second to win. Duffy held to 46 yards. Rivers and Peabody with scores too. Del Greco and Ackerman with picks.

Individual Stats:
QB Grady High, 62.8%, 3629 yards, 29:10, 103.5 QB Rating Another fine year RB Jake Duffy, 1841 rush yards, 4.5 ypc, 22 rush TD, 76 grabs, 776 yards, 7 rec TD. Another great year for Duffy too. TE Rick Rivers, 48 grabs, 788 yards, 5 TD WR Wayne Peabody, 47, 785, 6 WR Jerry Platt, 39, 621, 7 That’s ridiculous. Platt was targeted just 66 times by High. Our 3rd string WR, Finley, was targeted 74 times. Duffy was targeted 101 times, Peabody 91. K Maloney, 24 of 30, long of 48 P Kelly, 40.7 average, 34 of 78 in 20 DE Dan Covington, 12 starts, 7.5 sacks, 5 blocked passes, 11 QB hurries (tied for 2nd most in league) DE Sam Walden, 1.5 sacks, 1 and 4. S Dean Dawkins, 87 tackles, 1 sack, 6 picks., 2 pick ret TD, 7 pasdef S Clyde Del Greco, 6 picks, 4 pasdef CB Jim Ackerman, 5 picks, 12 pasdef (tied for 3rd most pasdef in league) CB Bob Pearson, 5 picks, 6 pasdef Wow. I know Walden is a rookie, but that is a lousy statline. A good year for Del Greco. A great year for my secondary. No one dominated with 12 picks or anything, but they all had 5 picks or more. Very solid work. OT Roosevelt Morin, 28 KRB, 3 sacks allowed OT Will Poston, 26 and 8 OG Damon Hopper, 25 and 5 C Archie Enbysk, 23 and 4 OG Steve Coffey, 23 and 6 Enbysk had a down year. Yay for Morin.

Team Awards:
Offensive Player of the Year: RB Jake Duffy - He just continues to dominate in his 7th year. Defensive Player of the Year: CB Jim Ackerman - He also continues to dominate in his 12th year. This year, he surpassed Leon Morabito in career picks. In fact, I’d say Jim Ackerman is my best corner of all time, period. Better than Samari Rolle, Leon Morabito, Rufus McGowan, Sam Madison and any of the other numerous corners I’ve had. Jim Ackerman takes them all. Of his NINE All Pros, six were 1st team! Special Teams Player of the Year: K Darrin Maloney, had a solid year. Rookie of the Year: OG Steve Coffey. Despite youth and greenness, turned in a solid performance at OG, with 23 KRB and 6 sacks allowed. He had a lot of room for growth, and if those stats get much better, he will be a star of stars. Heart Award: CB Quentin Vidal - This 7th year pick from two years ago had 3 sacks and a blocked pass while rushing the passer. That‘s more sacks than our starting DE had all year long, for the dimeback. Great year Vidal, thanks! We had some serious sack issues, but I was happy with the rest of the team, mostly. All of the O Line had good years, the secondary all had good years. Duffy and High were on point. Rivers and Peabody had fine years. Jerry Platt was a disappointment. I wish we would have had more in the Kicking and Punting area, but overall, I was very satisfied.

In the last few years, I turned over my team, including players like Bert Curtain, Brant Carman, Neil Lee, and so forth.
Despite that, how many All Pro players are on my team? QB Grady High RB Jake Duffy TE Rick Rivers C Archie Enbysk OT Will Poston OT Roosevelt Morin P Russell Kelly LB Joseph Martinez CB Jim Ackerman S Dean Dawkins 10 players that are All Pro. Not bad at all. However, I may be jettisoning one of this next year.

Hall of Fame:
QB Ernest Mayes - We Didn’t draft him, but he was totally one of us. 93%, Oklahoma, 11 honors, 389 TD, DE Brock Woods - We Didn’t draft him, but he was also one of us for some time. 93%, Northern State, 6 honors, 203 sacks The Lone Stars have two inductions including S Tracy Skipper, and LB Neil Branch - their first HOF players since I was GM. Someone has just made our Team Hall of Fame, and it appears they have the votes to make the NFL Hall, and it made me smile. I’ll keep it secret who. I’ve had three players in the Cleveland/Huntington dynasty make the HOF from other teams - Brock Woods, Ernest Mayes and Grady Pender. This will be the first player I’ve drafted to make it in a couple of years. During my entire dynasty, just one TE, Ed Gardener, made the HOF from a pre-generated character. I suspect that, after he retires, Brant Carman will be the second. This year, he passed Gardener for most career TD and rec yards by a TE in the past forty years. Here’s to Rick Rivers doing the same! 4 players from my San Antonio years made the HOF after I drafted them. 10 from my Albuquerque days 4 from my Richmond Days So far, none from my Cleveland/Huntington days So I only have 18 draftees in the HOF after 38 years of GMing. That’s not that many. I only have up to four on my team - Ackerman, High, Duffy and Rivers. I have another in the league - Carman. That’s it for those on the way.

I franchise P Russell Kelly.
Free Agency: I laugh at a pair of trade offers. I have 40 players under contract. I sign Russell Kelly to a two year deal. I sign K Maloney to a three year deal. 42 players. 32 million in cap room. I extend Duffy’s contract by three years and Ackerman’s by one. I trade QB Monty Krueger to the Vikes for their 2/32 pick. They now have a QB on their roster. Not much of an upgrade. Monty was taken in the 3rd round a few years ago, and we developed him into a 2/32. I trade CB Kelvin Dodge for the Bears’ 2/28 pick. He is instantly the best CB on their roster. Two of my former CBs are in the FA market - Jimmy Ordona and Arnold Dorrough Tommie Alston and Thomas Cobb are the 2nd and 3rd best OG in FA. DT Herb Bradley is the 2nd best DT out there. I extend DE Dan Covington by one year. This will be his first professional contract. Now I can see if he gets back to form or not. For now, the following starters are in their final year, but I want to see what the draft throws at me: OT Will Poston WR Wayne Peabody CB Bob Pearson LB Joseph Martinez Okay, let’s advance FA Whoah. I get the 1/1 offer for QB Grady High. That is not nothing. I say no, however. High is probably the only player on my team not for trade for any price. I mean, the 1/1 for RB Duffy? CB Ackerman? TE Rivers? Maybe if I got a bit more. I’d at least look around the draft to see what I could see.

The 3040 NFL Amateur Draft
Needs: DE perhaps, WR Perhaps, S Perhaps, CB perhaps, LB Perhaps, DT perhaps, FB Perhaps, OG perhaps I have luxury. I can pretty much BAP the entire draft and just take the best players on the board each time. We only have 10 picks in this draft and we draft at spot #35. 1/35 arrives. There are two great players on the board, a C and WR. Both are mega mega good. C Archie Galloway, 100 pot, 100 pot, 87 endurance WR Roosevelt Beverly, 90, 78, 76, 84, 86 with a 76 end Neither will be on the board much longer. They are known quantities. Beverly is great and fills a need. Galloway is a HOF caliber C and it is rare to get blockers that good here at 1/35. I know, I draft here a lot. I can sometimes get a good WR here. I can sometimes get a good C here. I rarely get a player like Galloway here. I call up San Francisco and I make a ballsy trade. I trade next year’s 1st for their 1/36 plus their 2/36 tossed in. I hate trading future picks, but I will rarely get a chance to get both of these players here, and sometimes I sit at 1/35 and am forced to take a player that fits at 2/10 instead. I take both players one two. Now I have some of my many 2nd rounders in the latter half of the round. I trade P Russell Kelly to the Rams for their 6/30 pick. I draft a hoss P. Kelly wasn;t doing anything for me, his stats were never that great and he was entering his 10th year. He looked good, but never played that good. Now I can draft a stud, Benny Bridges, and see what he can do instead. Draft Recap: 1/35 - C Archie Galloway, Virginia 1/36 - WR Roosevelt Beverly, Mississippi 2/22 - S Dominic Gaylor, Brigham Young 2/28 - QB George Carrell, Murray State 2/32 - OG Kim Fisk, Arkansas 2/35 - CB Terry Doane, Westminster 2/36 - P Benny Bridges, South Carolina 3/35 - DT Robert Tower, Virginia Tech 4/35 - RB Leo Aufedenkampe, Bethune Cookman 5/35 - TE Clarence Kemp, WVU 6/30 - DT Jim Plummer, Texas Tech 6/35 - OG Eugene Burnham, Kansas State 7/35 - CB Dwight Stevenson, Washington State - KR/PR

I trade C Enbysk to the Broncos, who were C-less for their 5th rounder next year. I also trade QB Bert LeFleur to the Raiders for their 3rd next year. I trade RB Jim Simmons to Austin for their 4th rounder.
I sign some UFA: TE Darrell Cash, Oregon LB Lance Prior, San Diego State DE John McAfee, UAB OG Lee Trese, Ohio State Okay, I have a full 53. Now it’s time to address the four starters in their final year. I extend Will Poston for 2 years. I trade Wayne Peabody to the Cowboys for their 3rd and 6th next year. Bob Pearson is an enigma. He is way better than many of my other corners in terms of stats, but much worse in terms of skills. Keep him or no? It’s really expensive. In order to keep Pearson, I have to move Martinez. Now, that’s not too bad. I was considering moving him anyway. 11h year LB and next been that lights out or anything. Time to move on. I trade Martinez to the Rams for their 3rd rounder. Now I can sign Pearson if I want to. Right now, there are no other good starting CB on the horizon. I can start Terry Doane as an emergency if I have to, but I’d prefer not too. Let’s give CB Bob Pearson a professional contract and see what he can do with it. I have 3.8 mill in cap room after that.

This is a very green team in places, like C, OG, DE, DT, and LB. Let’s see what the league says.
THE best QB THE best RB 13th best FB THE best TE 3rd best WR 20th best C 6th worst OG 4th best OT 8th best P THE best K Tied for 10th best DE 12th worst DT 16th worst LB THE best CB 5th best S I’m good where I want to be: OT, RB, QB, WR, TE, P, K, DE, CB and S. My OG and C are green but good. MY DT and LB are suspect, but that’s often the case. You can run all you want on me, when I have the best QB and the best RB and the best TE and the 3rd best WR, I will be scoring on your D. Can you keep up? I doubt it. My prediction - 12-4, #2 seed. This year I jettisoned two All Pros - P Kelly and LB Martinez. Both only had one go at All Pro in 10+ years of play. We finish the preseason 3-1 and with no major injuries, just a few probables here and there.

TE Rivers is well on his way to the first 1000+ yard season a TE has ever had for me. Grady High is 17:4.2060 yards and 111+ rating. If this keeps up, he would have one of the best QB seasons of all time. Duffy is leading the league in yards. We’ll see who is in front when its all over, but these players are making cases for themselves.

QB High’s rating has risen and he currently, barely, is leading the league in passing yards. Jake is barely in front too, by 10 rush yards. What will the final push bring? We pursue my first undefeated season ever. Here are the teams left on our schedule: At Cincinnati (7-5) At Denver (5-7) Albuquerque (5-7) Cincinnati (7-5) As you can see, our biggest remaining test is this week against a division foe who is fighting for playoff miracles.
