I applaud the decision to use tasers on these idiots. I made the (foolish) mistake of chance listening to Mike & Mike in the Morning to hear Golic argue against the use of a taser.
If you're stupid enough to run out onto the field, security should be able to use a gun if need be. Doing society a favor. Yes, I feel strongly about this issue. Last edited by RedKingGold : 05-04-2010 at 08:30 AM. |

The Braves are in town for the first series of a homestand for the Nats. Hopefully they (the Nats) rebound from their first losing streak in a while and keep some positioning in the division.

MLB needs to put a stop to that ASAP. Tasers carry a small risk of death and I don't think Selig wants to spend a few weeks doing damage control for an electrocution.

I'm too lazy to do the research, but I bet the potential for injury is much greater when an individual is physically tackled to the ground than when he is tasered.

Maybe, but the chance for death is considerably higher when tasered.

Obviously they need to be really careful because all it takes is a crazy to come down on the field with a weapon...not like it's never happened in sports. The issue though is that tasers do carry a risk of death, and that this suspect was a minor. I can imagine it's also trickier to hit a fast(ish) moving target. What happens if some 16 year old kid gets tased in the face or something.
I'm all for the tackle, it actually makes it more exciting anyway

What should be first? The first idiot/drunk/crazy fan tasered to death, or the first baseball player injured/killed by a crazy fan?
If I was a player, I think I'd expect my employers to keep me out of harm's way. I'm not sure you need to taser a guy if he's just running around and doesn't appear to be headed toward a player or have a weapon, but I think in today's world, the players should expect and demand something more than a keystone cops routine for 5 minutes.

I don't feel bad for anyone running around on a field that gets tased, but the real enforcement needs to be on the punishment end. Lock him up for a year (if he has no criminal record, more if he does), he'll learn his lesson.

I think as molson said, the real issue is in punishment. If people were charged with serious crimes and risked real jail time, it would cease (or fairly close).

I heard a piece of that discussion this morning also as I was getting ready for work, and found it amazing that Golic's main point was that people who do this tend to be drunk, and people don't think logically or understand the consequences of their actions when drunk. I've done plenty of stupid shit when wasted, either to myself, to friends, to girls, whoever. But none of that has ever crossed the line to something illegal. Just amazes me what we excuse. |

I'm no expert on criminal law, but our system is set up to permit intoxication as a partial excuse. For specific intent crimes, evidence of intoxication can be used to negate the required specific intent, resulting in a defendant being found guilty of a lesser offense (i.e., instead of murder, manslaughter). It is not and cannot be a complete defense to a crime, and cannot negate general intent (so it's irrelevant against an assault charge, for example). But partially excusing criminal behavior based on being in an intoxicated state has long been part of our system.

If you want to safeguard players you need to keep people away from the field in the first place. This guy had plenty of time to assault a player before he was tasered.

What percentage chance of death is appropriate for a misdemeanor?

since people have died from being tasered before, and I know the chances are small and slim , but it has happened I wonder if this guy had been tased, gone into shock and passed away a few hours later would people be saying "he got what he deserved"?
he didn't have a weapon, he looks like he was just running around the field with a big grin on his face.

maybe we should just taser anyone and everyone who criminally trespasses, make it equal.

I wish he would've crapped his pants when he got tasered. Think of the embarrassment when he goes back to school.

I'd be willing to bet there has been far more players attacked by fans than people that have died as a result of taser use.

Incidentally, at least if we're to believe the father of the braindead teen in question, "his son was not drinking and he wasn't on drugs."
I'm sure Penn State will be proud of this incoming freshman for years to come.

Again, if he wanted to attack a player he had plenty of time. The taser in no way protected any of the players.

Back to baseball for a minute. Lincecum is dealing tonight with 10 K's through 5.

Well the answers were obvious ... but so were the questions. Tough to separate the two things really.

Lincecum's performance tonight is really putting into perspective just how hard 20k's in a game is. Dude has 13 through 7... he can strike out the side in the 8th and 9th and still fall short. I feel this and Joey D's hit streak are 2 of the most underrated records out there.

Yes it's legit. I was watching the game at the time. Threw the Phillies pitcher off just enough and let the Cards get a little rally going and they scored a run to tie it and send it to extra innings.
Taser the shit out of these idiots. How about this? You don't want to get tasered, don't go on the fucking field. No risk of death if you don't go jump in front of a fucking taser. |

so , this guy wasn't tasered? what the fuck? why was a 17 year old kid tasered and this guy not, he walked right to security, why didn't they taser him, if your gonna taser one guy on the field, taser them all don't fucking pick and select. thats bull shit. so who cares if he walked right to security, how do we know he didn't have weapon? (he could of been aiming to hurt or kill a security guard, or something) If people think a 17 year old might have a weapon, shit anyone could have one.
//I don't think anyone deserves tasering for this, but being selective is idiotic.

I would assume he wasn't tasered because security was told not to do so based on the hullabloo last night's tasering created.

Because the first guy was running around evading capture. The other guy just did it for the attention. They only tasered the first guy because he was being a little prick and running away from the guys trying to restore order.
Honestly, getting all up in arms about these dipshits who choose this dumbass path seems REALLY misplaced. Why not focus your outrage on people that aren't behaving little stupid assholes and still getting the shaft? There are plenty of those. Last edited by MJ4H : 05-04-2010 at 09:42 PM. |
