Bama hasn't played more than one good half in a game since LSU back on 11/3.
I'm not ready to panic yet but they are pushing the whole "flip the switch" thing toward it's limit I'm afraid.

Depending on how this one goes Alabama may be in trouble. Their strength of schedule doesn't really separate them from OU or OSU and with nothing really separating these teams you have a very difficult time justifying 2 teams from the same conference. |

538 drops Alabama to an 16% chance of getting in if they lose and OSU wins. In that scenario, ND/OSU/OU are all in the 60% range to get in. So...no idea.

Assuming Clemson wins, probably so.
Could kick start the drive to 8 teams with three conferences left out. |

Right, all that was assuming Clemson wins. In any event they have 1-loss UGA in and 1-loss OU/OSU over Bama.

The NDSU Bison roll 52-10 in their first playoff game against Montana St. (last week was a bye).
They move on to the quarterfinals next week against the 8 seed Colgate, who knocked of James Madison today. James Madison was the last team to beat the Bison in the playoffs, and in the dome, and they were the runner up last year in the finals.

Or the game can go to quadruple overtime and the committee has to let them both in regardless of winner.

Bama was probably still coming back to win that game in OT or even still in regulation, but whoever made that call just absolutely let those kids down. What an utterly insane thing to do in that situation and with the way the game was going.

Any of them that play UGAg. The only two I have a positive rooting interest in are Tennessee (by marriage) and Ole Miss (by offspring). Everything else is entirely situational / matchup related. edit to add: Except LSU (as previously noted). Then I pull for an inbound meteor.

I think Clemson matches up well with Bama. But I don't want them with Saban having a month to prepare. |

Off hand, I can't come up with a coaching decision / play call in college football to rival Smart's blunder.
The NFL gives us not having Piscarcik kneel/handing off to Csonka as well as Seattle throwing the ball, but for college I'm struggling to find one to top that (didn't fake anyone out) fake punt.

On the one hand, I was surprised and thrilled to be able to hang with 'em at all. I was expecting something like 24-7. But of course on the other, once you see that your team CAN play with them, the loss hurts. It's absurd how young both of those offenses are. Haven't verified this, but even if not 100% accurate in the details, the sentiment is correct.

I tried, I googled, I've pondered. So far I got nothing. Other than the requisite "we've replaced Kirby Smart with Paul Johnson, let's see if anyone notices" joke, I haven't even been able to gloat properly. That was Reggie Ball dumb, but with a headset instead of a helmet.

Those are there throwback uniforms from the 70s and 80s. Most people from that era want to go back to them full time. The darker blue started in the 90s.

For raw boneheadedness, that's a legit contender. But in the bigger picture, there was little on the line between two very bad football teams that day. I think the stakes factor into the final stupidity score somehow.

Plus, I follow Random SEC Team X more closely due to having UT in the East and Ole Miss in the West. It's not like I get to take half the conference off in terms of awareness, trendings, etc. Plus, I'm sitting in enemy HQ AND it's a 365 day a year topic statewide. (Sports talk call-ins about HS sophomores that might be recruited someday -- even during Super Bowl week or World Series or whatever -- are a long running joke in these parts) I don't have to like someone to be conscious of bits & bobs about them. I can't stand the Pens but I know about their current season struggles. I loathe at least two high school rivalry opponents, but I'm probably better versed on their bits & pieces than half their hometown fans. That's just how I roll fandom wise. edit: If I lived 3,000 miles west, I'd probably know Wazzu and ASU about the same way.

Why did they review the play to see if there were too many men on the field for Northwestern? It wasted time to determine if a penalty occurred which was never going to be accepted.

Did you see them review a Texas INT on a play in which Texas got called for defensive holding? It didn't matter whether the INT was good or not, OU was taking the penalty. Some dumb ass refs out there...

I really REALLY hate the college playoff. If they told us we could keep the BCS or get a 4 team playoff with a committee, I would have said "stick with the BCS." I can deal with screwy results based on numbers. People deciding who is "best" as a way to determine a champion sucks.

Okay, I get that sentiment to a fair extent but ... humans were always 2/3rds of the BCS anyway. And, look at last week (Colley still puts together a mock BCS every week) ... 5 of the 6 computer polls in use have the same top 4 as both the writers & the coaches poll (surely those are a reasonable comparison point for the current committee, humans:humans after all) And the only outlier in the whole thing is Sagarin having ND at 7 replaced by Ohio State ... which, IIRC, would have been dumped by the BCS as a low outlier anyway. My point is that, what tends to happen (and frequently gets overlooked) is that in the end the humans & the computers tend to come together quite neatly, especially once you use the fairly normal matter of tossing out high & low scores on the computers.
