The Val Venis gig made him and ruined him, he's a pretty good talker, and a pretty good wrestler but they've never given him anything else that he could reasonably run with.

that stinks, he's a big guy, charismatic, confident in the ring, and I think could grow into having a really nice main card run but they stick him in as a jobber. For shame.

Venis did fine with the scripted porn star shtick, but without that, he just doesn't have the charismatic personality. He just sounds like a guy with a porn star voice trying to pretend he's someone else.

Didn't he run for a local government position at some point while he was an active wrestler?

I don't know, but he's apparently very political. I'm pretty sure he runs some political newspaper.

y'know perhaps a political shlotcky guy would work for a bit in a limited mid card role. Obviously as a heel type which Val would be good at. Could also have some nice turns in his character. Think the opposite of The godfather although hopefully much better executed than that Steve guy.

They tried him in that kind of role twice, once as a member of Steve Richard's Right to Censor, and the other as "Chief Morely", some kind of pseudo-authority figure. Both times, he just sounded like a porn star in a suit. I don't think he can do promos beyond the 1 or 2 line scripted porn-shtick.

NATIONAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE SIGNS EXCLUSIVE MEDIA & MERCHANDISING RIGHTS DEAL WITH BIG VISION ENTERTAINMENT

May 15, 2007 - Los Angeles, CA

The National Wrestling Alliance, the oldest and most respected organization in the professional wrestling industry, has signed an exclusive 5 year deal with Big Vision Entertainment, one of the fastest growing independent entertainment companies and the leader in independent wrestling distribution.

Big Vision CEO Houston Curtis said, "We pride ourselves on bringing the best quality content to our fans and consumers and for almost 60 years, the NWA has been the measuring stick for quality in pro wrestling. Growing up a fan and watching NWA superstars both on TV and live in person, it is with great excitement that we enter into this deal and look forward to taking the NWA brand to new heights."

The deal, which comes on the heels of the NWA stripping the TNA Wrestling organization of the NWA titles and name, calls for Big Vision to act as the NWA's media partner for home entertainment, Pay-Per-View, emerging technologies such as digital downloads and Video-On-Demand, and merchandising as well as television development and distribution.
...
The first BVE/NWA project will be the upcoming tournament to crown a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. The 16 man tournament will take place as part of NWA sanctioned events throughout North America beginning on June 2nd and conclude with the crowning of a new Heavyweight World Champion in September. Big Vision will release a Special Edition 2-disk set titled "Reclaiming The Glory: NWA World Title Tournament" in stores worldwide in January. Big Vision will also be releasing two recent major NWA Pro Wrestling events "Copa De Lucha" (street date September 25) and "Fiesta Lucha" (street date October 30) this fall.

In addition to acting as the NWA's media partner, Big Vision will be looking to the NWA for development of talent for their current and upcoming professional wrestling projects including future seasons of Wrestling Society X.

Spring cleaning is continuing in the WWF - Scotty 2 Hotty and Ariel let go today, joining Rob Conway, Vito, and Sabu who were cut in recent days. Also, it appears RVD has been given an early release, and won't be seen again on WWF TV.

It's hard to believe Scotty had a 10-year run with the WWE - that must be 3rd behind Michaels and 'Taker for continous employment.

Don't forget HHH. He's been there since mid 1995. JBL isn't active right now, but he's been around since about the same time as well. Mark Henry has also been under contract since 1996.

FYI, as someone who understands what Great Khali is saying, that tiny little guy is pretty much making up the translation as he goes...

So last night I had this really vivid dream that Kurt Angle went back in time and interfered with the Hogan v. Savage Wrestlmania V match (The Mega Powers Collide). Hogan still won.

Nothing really to report, but what a strange freaking dream.

I can't remember where it was, but I saw a reference to that guy as "Arab Bischoff" and now I can't get that image out of my head.

Apparently, Bischoff was actually offered the role as "Khali's Spokesman", but Bischoff didn't want to do it. So they went out and found Bischoff's Indian equivalent.

USA Network's website has a three-hour "Draft Special" listed for Raw on Monday, June 11. The show will start an hour earlier at 8:00 p.m. EST and run three hours.

WWE cancelled a Smackdown and ECW brand house show that was originally scheduled for that date in order for wrestlers from all three brands to appear on Raw for the draft lottery.

The last WWE draft lottery was held over the course of several weeks in June 2005 and started with WWE champion John Cena moving to Raw and ended with Christian and World Hvt. champion Batista moving to Smackdown.

The splitting of brands, STILL, IMO, was one of the worst decisions made by Vince.

It annoys me way, way more than it should that they always call this a "draft lottery" when nobody ever gets drafted. I'm sure it confuses a ton of casual fans, too. "Why'd they pick that guy?"

Agreed. I still firmly believe that he could have kept the WWF and WCW rosters separate for the most part and run them as separate non-interacting brands for years and been very very successful, with one wrestler or another "defecting" to the other brand on occasion.

The "Another Headlock Randy?" sign was awesome and the RKO looked brutal.

It might have hurt business, but I think it's been great for the fans. When you're not into one of the "main" angles, whether that be D/X, Cena, or Vince v. Lashley, you had another brand where that wasn't going on. For me, I'm thankful I didn't have to see D/X dominate two shows a week during their run.

Also, there's a ton of young guys that wouldn't have seen the opportunties they did without the split - Kennedy, Punk, MVP, London/Kendrick. Also, guys like Benoit and Mysterio would never have gotten chances in the main event.

Take the split away, and we'll just have redundant main event angles going on and on, and getting twice as much tv time. And 12+ of the undercard guys would be cut loose (or burried).

What they needed to do was put a different writing and management staff in charge of each brand, and then have them actually compete with each other (within certain ground rules). Instead if was basically the same show with different rosters. It's always funny when some guy takes a shot at the other brand and then waits for a crowd reaction that never comes... like any fan thinks of themselves a Raw or a Smackdown fan.

angles would be able to either be twice as deep and well thought out without burning us out on a storyline that takes 6 months to work, evolve twice as fast or end twice as fast if necessary. Its quite obvious to me that the heat on today's shows, the buildup, and execution of storylines leaves much to be desired in the form of emotional attachment, character arching, and timing.

Holy Shit! I like how Elmo had the foresight to hold onto his head to keep it from flying off during his twisting-senton bomb, but I completely marked out for the Canadian destroyer. I have a new favorite wrestler!

You'll get to see the Hardys vs the Worlds Greatest Tag Team in a Ladder Match, which if given time, will be match of the night. Edge vs Batista in a cage isn't bad on paper tho their last match stunk, hopefully the cage stipulation adds to it.

And you get to see CM Punk in action, always a treat.

Just got home from the NWA Anarchy show where local champ "Technical Perfection" Chad Parham upset "Mr. Mid-Atlantic Damien Wayne" to advance to the 2nd round of the NWA World Heavyweight Title tournament.

Not a bad match by any means, although the heat was lacking IMO since hardly anybody in the building knew who the heck Wayne was. Adding to the dilemma was the fact that Parham is very Heely McHeel but he's "our" heel, so for some I think it was hard to decide whether to pull for or against him.

Elsewhere tonight Adam Pearce advanced as did Brent Albright. Pearce will now face Parham while Albright awaits the winner of Glamour Boy Shane & Fred Sampson who meet in Phoenix next weekend.

Jon, have any idea how many promotions make up the incarnation of the NWA?

Best I can figure, the current number is around 34, including some members that appear to be inactive. That's based on the "Roll Call of Champions" linked from their website.

30 apparently active, including associate members, are:
NWA All-Star (VA)
NWA Anarchy (GA)
NWA Bluegrass (KY)
NWA East/PWX (PA)
NWA ECCW (Canada)
NWA Empire (NY)
NWA Pro/EPW Perth (Australia)
NWA Hawaii (HI)
NWA Heat Wave/CWFL (FL)
NWA Ireland (Ireland)
NWA Main Event (TN)
NWA Mid-Atlantic (NC/SC)
NWA Midwest (IL)
NWA Mountain State (WV)
NWA New Japan/IWGP (Japan)
NWA New South (MS)
NWA Pro (TX)
NWA Shockwave (NY/NJ)
NWA South Atlantic/CWFL (FL)
NWA Southwest (TX)
NWA Top Rope (TN)
NWA Tri-State (WV)
NWA UCW-Zero (UT)
NWA United Kingdom (UK)
NWA Universal (OK)
NWA Upstate (NY)
NWA Virginia (VA)
NWA Wisconsin/Midwest (WI)
NWA Wrestle Birmingham (AL)
Ultimate NWA (AL)

4 that are inactive (CWFL appears to be running via affiliate members though)
NWA C'ship Wrestling from Florida (FL)
NWA Battlezone (MS)
NWA Mid-South (TN)
NWA Quebec (Canada)

That's my best guesstimate, although I know that's shaky at best because of the various associate memberships that can run NWA sanctioned matches/events by agreement with the official member in their territory. For example, Bill Behrens is a Georgia & Alabama member but has/had agreements with at least a half dozen promoters in the area who then run shows in their hometown(s) under the NWA banner.

I don't know too much about the wrestling scene in Japan or the NWA, but from that list, it's surprising the NWA title doesn't make it's permanent home with New Japan, with the occasional U.S. tour.

NWA title is in limbo. The tournaments top 4 guys are all from ROH and all are probably under ROH Contracts. They need a Danielson to win the title to make it credible, but it is secondary to him.

The NWA is just initals anymore.

That last bit, about Danielson's willingness/interest, in the NWA title is pretty much what everybody (on the outside & maybe the inside) is waiting to see I think. Given that he works regularly for numerous promotions and that the ROH contracts (reportedly) don't restrict those activities, it's really not a scheduling issue as far as I can figure out. He could certainly defend the NWA belt once a month or so and still have plenty of time for his ROH commitments. And for the champion, if you make him holding the title the primary reason behind matches he's a part of, once a month is plenty at this point.

I think it really comes down to whether he's willing to be the focal point of both ROH and the NWA. And if not, could one of the other two main possibilities be more open to accepting the challenge?

One encouraging sign in that direction might be found in the results from the first weekend of matches, as ROH guys (Albright & Pearce) were 2-for-2. Those would be, in my mind, the 2nd & 3rd choices behind Danielson. Meanwhile the likely 4th choice (Nishimura) was eliminated last night by Pearce.

The one thing with Danielson is he won't go to WWE or TNA from the way he talks. He would stay on the indy scene and being a part of NWA would help him make more bank. I love Danielson, my favorite guy out there. They just need to line him up credible challengers along the way.

My up close and personal report from the front row at One Night Stand.

First when we got there they had absolutely no security check at all. None, which was shocking and highlights the later craziness I saw.

Our seats were unbelievable as we had an unimpeded view of, well, everything I thought. What was somewhat disconcerting was the foldout chairs we sat on had overly lifesize prints of Bobby Lashley's face on the seat, so in essence he would be nose planted directly between my cheeks.

The first match, I have to assume a dark one since no ringside announcers were out, was Santino Marella (sp?) vs. Chris Masters. It was ho hum. No heat at all and Masters was obviously calling all the shots with no attempt at hiding it from us in the close seats. Morella won by slipping down out of the Masterlock into some sort of flip him over pin thingy.

The next match, if I remember correctly had Tommy Dreamer, the Sandman, and CM punk vs. Matt Stryker, Marcus Cro Von and Elijah Burke. I felt that this was probably the best executed match of the night. Everyone did what they were supposed to do well. Sandman smacked his head with beer cans but later pulled up way soft on his cane shot of....someone. One thing that was silly was Stryker's acting....It was way over the top and made him look goofy. Also, Ill say his left collarbone is way jacked up...something is wrong with it as it sticks way out, grotesquely so. Dreamer looked way out of shape and slow.

RVD and Randy Orton was a bit silly in that Orton's selling is way over top. RVD, however, slipped off the top rope when attempting a splash, I think, and it was perfectly sold. Ill tell you, if that was on purpose, for him to fall, it was beautifully done because everyone thought he screwed up. About this match the guy to my left started stinking.

I also took note of the adults in the audience with big replica wrestling championship belts and thought that that was odd....scary somewhat.

Mark Henry v. Kane was silly but Henry's song is pretty cool. "Somebody is gonna get their ass kicked....tonight.....by me. Somebody better listen to me....now....shhhhhh. Somebody is gonna get their ass kicked....soon....I said......by me." The lumberjacks were silly, especially Steven Richards. He would not leave the Miz alone. The Miz was closest to us and he would do his thing but he wasnt overacting, but Richards would come to him and just way over do it, with advice and gestures, and you could just tell it was stupid. But hey Richard's has been doing this longer than Miz. Morly/Val was at the top of the ring on camera alot so i can understand his histrionics (sp?) but otherwise the Lumberjacks just seemed to take away from the match IMO.

Hardys v. World greatest Tag Team was fun. However, there was one move that Haas tried to lead which was some sort of roll flip of Jeff into a ladder, teaming with Benjamin to pull it off and it was as if they were in slo-mo and it looked retarded....the crowd booed and I yelled at them to "try it again!" Jim, the security guard, had determined at this time that, tonight, he was not doing anything for his paycheck unless someone over him told him to....so this was the first time someone who acted like his boss showed him how to clear the aisle. This match had a bunch of missed spots though, one time Benjamin slipped off the ropes but nicked the bottom of the ladder which Jeff rocked to fall off and thus Benjamin couldnt help laughing...partly for his screwup and partly for show, "Im a bad guy." The big fall from Benjamin near the end on the ladder was pretty impressive and got the crowd standing.

Prior to the Melina v. Candice match Candice asked Santino for a good luck kiss but another girl kissed her instead which led to some lesbian overtones. In Jacksonville, bible belt you'd think that perhaps that could touch a nerve but not with this crowd....First Baptist Church was absent tonight. The pudding bowl was setup far away so dad and I couldnt see it so we remained seated and watched it on the Titantron. Honestly I thought the match was stupid and wouldnt have been any better had it been right in front of us.

Batista v. Edge seemed good although I just have a hard time getting over the whole, "Why climb it? the Ref will open the door for you." factor, so my suspension of belief belies my entertainment button. Anyways, Edge won...I like him so whatever. Batista cried or something over the belt.....I dunno, I went to get a drink and some air from the guy who has now started wreaking.

Bobby Lashley took on the McMahon trio and it was neat to see vince and Shane that close. Shane flew a bunch. umaga crapped in his pants a bunch (or it looked like it) and Vince lost. Lashley just has no charisma so I just dont see where he can go with this thing. Id like to see Steph come back.

Oh, umaga kept rubbing Vince's head when he was down and it looked like Vince was getting annoyed or maybe I couldnt imagine how he couldnt be getting annoyed with the constant head rubbing. Umaga's face paint is definitely fake....I think.

Ok, so Cena v. Khali had the whole crowd going crazy and the boss came back to tell Jim that he better keep the aisle clear so I had some forethought that perhaps they'd come by me. They did. Over the rail they come, Cena crushed some ladies popcorn on his way down and the kid next to me touched Cena's leg and got a boner. Anyways, They come by which was cool....they were right there, I coulda touched either one, tripped one, made some smart witty comment but instead I just stood there like every other goofball without a belt or sign or WWE shirt on but spent too much on tickets. Khali hit Cena in the head with one of those mini-monitors and it slid over to about 5 ft. from me so I waited a few moments and then grabbed it sliding it up to my chair. Dad says, "What are you going to do with that?" I reply, "Well if they let me keep it Ill see if someone buys it on Ebay from me." ok, Cena and Khali go off somewhere over there on some crane and Cena FU's (The whole crowd yelled FU) off of the Crane and Cena wins. WOOHOO, Then Jim's boss comes over and we have a little tug o war over the monitor, which is all dented up and probably a complete loss, right? I say, "you think I can keep it?" Jim's boss, who kinda looked like a shorter Dick Butkus says, "I know you cant." So the Dollar signs left my eyes, along with the B/W mini monitor/prop.

But we got to keep our chair. The security guard came over and wrote "JAX" on our tickets and cut our chairs loose for us to take with us......down the hall to leave the floor area we go to the second round of checks to make sure we had "Jax" written on our tickets to confirm we hadnt beaten up some little kids for the "Lashley sniffed my butt chairs".....then around the bend the 3rd Lashley Chair checkpoint....and then a fourth before we left the building....

Security checkpoint for Contraband, liquor, a gun, Crack, bomb.....Nope.

4 checkpoints to be sure I hadnt torn my Lashley sniffed my butt chair from some poor little crying kids' pudgey little fingers.....Yup.

ahhhh, what a night....it probably wouldve been better on PPV but then I wouldnt have this chair to put on Ebay tomorrow.

Awseome write-up Flasch - makes me want to shell out for front row next time there's a PPV somewhere in the Northwest.

The last live event I went to was the night David Arquette won the WCW title in Syracuse at a Thunder taping. It was an awseome time, even though the product was god-awful by that point.

I read on another board that according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Chris Benoit will be moving to Raw in the draft because of the lack of main eventers. I think this is a good move as 2 of Raw's main eventers can't speak english and they're doing the Legend Killer angle with Randy Orton again. HHH has to be close to returning so maybe this is where they're headed with an Orton-HHH fued.

As noted earlier by TNAWrestlingNews.com, Scott Steiner suffered an injury to his throat at the TNA House Show in San Juan, Puerto Rico this past Sunday night. Steiner took a kick to the throat from Apolo in a tag team match that saw Steiner team with Robert Roode against Jeff Jarrett and Apolo.

According to the report, Steiner was scheduled to undergo trachea surgery on Monday in San Juan. It should be noted that he seemed fine after the match, but at 2:00am he was starting to have trouble breathing and was then rushed to the hospital. There is no estimate on how long he will be out of the ring for until after surgery, but the early word is that he won't be back in the ring for a while.

This will more than likely force TNA to cancel the scheduled TNA World Tag Team Title Match at Slammiversary involving Team 3D vs. The Steiner Brothers. We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
