It's really pretty ridiculous. Going against both teams - but more so against the Celtics - every damn big man has 4 fouls at this point.

I'm sure they'll close the gap slightly after a call comes down from above and then people will talk about how the Lakers were just playing a more aggressive game

(just like every lame time the NBA does this)

Not every game has to have an equal foul differential.

Of course not. But 2-1 in favor of the home team is ridiculous. Particularly when neither team is playing anymore physical than the other.

Actual foul total is 25-18 so its not as big of a discrepancy as it may seem.

fair enough

wow...5 fouls on Kobe. This is just silly...the game's going to be decided by the bench players at this point.

Seriously. Better to play Sheed and Baby. And for fuck's sake, go at Kobe and Artest and get them fouled out.

Yeah it's been going bad both ways. I have no idea what they're looking at. It almost seems like Naked Gun 4 and Frank Drebin can't stop accidentally blowing his whistle, so they have to keep making up a foul each time it happens.

Shouldn't that have been a technical on Rivers, running on the court like that?

I'm not sure what the actual rulebook states, if a coach is allowed to come on to call a TO or not, but coaches are over that out of bounds line something like 75% of the game.

It wasn't just 'over the out of bounds line.'

Dude ran onto the middle of the court waving his arms to call the time out.

I'm not talking about ticky-tack here. He was at, like, the free throw line.

I'm not going to say the officiating lost the game for the Lakers, but it sure was bad, lots of terrible calls both ways.

It definitely didn't lose the game for them. If anything, all the dubious fouls on the Celtics bigs let the Lakers claw back into the game. Not very fouls on Kobe, and he still couldn't find his shot. That's just good team defense on him and great defense by Ray Allen.

Lakers had 31 FT's made and 29 FG's made.

BTW, the ABC censor had a rough game, at least on my feed.

about two minutes to play.. Rondo at the free throw line..misses the first free throw. Swears Audibly. "SHIT!" Censor a half second too slow, so you get "SHIT!" (silence as the dump button is pressed). Makes it even more noticeable.

hits the second freethrow, time out on the floor, Rondo's walking back, as they go to break and one of the Cetlic players consoles Rondo by saying "You're still my N-Word" (and yes, it's THE N-word), audible even over the break out). Censor again is a half second too late.

I can just see the censor relaxing as they go to break and then someone uses the N-word just as he takes his finger away from the button.

When will Kobe Bryant and the Lakers get a fair shake from the officials in the NBA?

I always think NBA officiating sucks but I think the right team won tonight. Boston just outplayed them and Ray Allen couldnt miss in the first half. If anything I think the refs gave the Lakers a chance.

I know I was surprised with the ending. I was still watching the Stanley Cup game much more than the NBA Finals game tonight but what I did see just had that feel to it.

You must be aware of a different Kobe than I am aware of. That sounds like the same guy to me for, well, years now.

Is there a white guy on the Celtics anymore (Scalabrine)? If it was that guy, this would have caused a shitstorm (and I would have found it even more hilarious, presuming that sort of exchange from a white player was okay with Rondo).

You do realize that FT discrepancy has absolutely nothing to do with how the game is being called right?

It was a very odd game. If it takes Ray Allen setting a record in 3's for the C's to win a game like this, I can live with it. Just need to take on in Boston to make it a 3 game series

I completely agree with you here, and I'm glad Lakers fans have learned something since their complaints about game 2 in 2008.

And if the Celtics can win on the road with Pierce/KG combining to be 4-16, then I can certainly live with that.

The 2-3-2 setup is very strange. Big advantage to the Celtics now after stealing one on the road.

Nah, it wasn't scalabrine... (if you look, Scalabrine was the one who brought Doc back after charging on the floor to call that timeout)

Daddy,

I totally agree. The first game and the first three quarters of this one the refs have been favoring the Lakers other than the couple of fouls on Kobe.

As a Celts fan I wish I could believe this but I think unless Boston can win all three and close out the series the format benefits the Lakers. I think because you figure in the 2-2-1-1-1 game six would be in Boston.
