Im at the gas station and I run into a couple friends of my baughters. Her former BFF tells me his Dad has stage 4 brain cancer and is being given meds to increase quality of life. This is at 6;30. Then my brother calls at 8 and tells me my SIL has breast cancer. Tomorrow they have theor first meeting and start the process.

I've been binging My Chemical Romance the past few weeks, and "Cancer" is painful and beautiful and raw in that vein all the same.

I sed to live in seattle for quite awhile and had a canadian gaming friend named Chris. He got cancer in his kidneys. They operated and everything cleaned up rather nicely. THis was at least 13 years ago. I visited him in the hospital and tried to cheer him up as best I could and he pulled through well. He hosted gameday every month and set up starcraft lanparty. cut to last year he apparently got cancer back and has been battling ever since. Now he has c diff infection (which I had to look up) and his kidneys have shut down i guess. Lotsa bad organ stuff. THis is all from someone else but I hadn't realized he had gotten that bad.

We weren't the best of friends as he would like to put me down a lot. But he is a good guy. Doesn't deserve this

I talked to him earlier over discord. He looked good actually. Brought another metal friend with me. Chat was nice. It's a tough rode because the cliff dehydrated him and giving wayr makes his legs swell up. Plus the cancer treatments he's been on are not working.

My mom went into the hospital with stomach issues. It initially looked like gall bladder issues, but a sonogram showed issues and a ct confirmed a mass on the pancreas and spots on the liver. Waiting on results, but doctors clearly suspect cancer.

It's pancreatic, and as is usually the case it's stage 4. Supposed to start Chemo soon, but I know she's not going to tolerate it at all, and I fully expect her to stop treatment.

I'm sorry to hear that, Breeze. I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer 4.5 years ago.

Sorry to hear, Breeze. It's hard for her, but it also it hard for you and the rest of the family. Even though you're going to put aside your own needs to be there for her (of course), you also count. My mom had stage 4 pancreatic cancer as well. She passed in 2020.

Definitely encourage her to take the chemo, because it can help a lot.

I'm pleased to see that this thread hasn't been updated since April and sorry I have to add to it.

My best friend from high school just messaged me that's he's got stage 3 carcinoma in his lymph nodes though they haven't detected the source yet. Specifically, metastatic keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma. Survival rate beyond 5 years is not good. Fuck.

No personal story but just a PSA in case you were not aware ...

Watched an interesting YT interview that claimed (paraphrased) that sugar helps cancer cells grow, increases risk etc. and best to cut out sugar as much as possible.

I did more research on sugar & cancer, and found many articles that say no/little connection and some that yes/some evidence. It's led me to believe it's, more probable than not, that sugar does "help" cancer to some degree, to some extent.

While researchers continue to investigate the connection between sugar and cancer, there is accumulating evidence that sugar consumption is associated with increased cancer risk, recurrence, and mortality. Thought the idea was interesting and wanted to share. As always, do your own research.

Not to start a big back and forth, but excessive sugar yes; it's important to remember that your body needs some sugar so just trying not to have any is not a great idea.

I found this when I was diagnosed. The way I’ve handled it is mostly to avoid sweets and desserts. For the most part the rest of my diet is the same. For some foods I’ll look for “no sugar added” options, but i don’t kill myself to completely avoid sugar.

My wife’s cousins husband, which isnt as distant as it sounds. He is my kids uncle. Wife was maid of honor at their wedding. Good parents to their kids. Hosts Xmas Eve. Etc. has decided to give up his fight. He’s entering hospice tomorrow. Say a prayer for Kevin and his kids. Was supposed to welcome his first grandkid this year and see his youngest get married. Fuck cancer.
