Tennessee playing "Dixieland Delight" after the win was such an exquisite troll move.

Only three, but Purdue just can't help giving up free points at the ends of halfs.

Assuming USC wins, Alabama should go to 9, but I can't imagine they fall that far.

Surprised how bad Alabama has looked at times this year. Just so much more talent than anyone. How do you let up 52 points with that defense?

WTF? They just gave USC a TO during a play? Did I hear that right? Utah committed a PI on an INT but they added 5 seconds back because TO was called when the INT happened. That can't be the right explanation but that's what the ref said.

I figure they go to about 7. Ultimately they were #3, and they lost by three points on the road to #6. I don't think that means massive drop unless you figure 3 through 10 were basically not distinguishable coming in.

Edit: I think it also depends on how you look at it. I.e., was it mostly Alabama being ranked too high, or Tennessee too low? Mix of both? I figure Tennessee ends up 3-4, so that would be a net shift of 7 or 8 places from winning by a field goal. Just me, but that feels like it's not too small.

I think GA, OSU, Clemson, UM, Tenn are the top five, but a change in order wouldn't surprise me.

Can’t wait for Georgia to beat UT, then Alabama to beat Georgia, and for us to all hear about the SEC needing three teams in the playoff.

The great thing about that flop is it drew a flag because the ref saw the initial action and got screened by another player as the guy flew backward. The UK guy had no clue, but it was perfect because all the ref saw was the push and then a few seconds later the UK guy fall to the ground. Flag!

That's a popular question in the last 18 hours or so.

Hard not to ask it when you give up the most points allowed by your school in 115 years.

Like that would ever happen. Oh wait ....

Michigan's back to 'best team that nobody thinks is the best team' status.

More important question; who is on the Syracuse bandwagon?

Tennessee now asking for donations to replace the goalposts. I admit this is a part of football culture that I just don't understand at all, the whole storming the field after a historic win. Just seems to me there are better ways to celebrate. It's better than lighting cars on fire, but ...

Pretty sure that's largely a joke (at least that's how we've been taking it).

I mean, they won't turn it down but even the university president's response when asked about the cost of replacing the goalposts was "“It doesn’t matter, we’ll do this every year!!!” "

Ole Miss is still undefeated. If they only lose to Alabama, then there could be four SEC teams in the playoffs.

Oh my. That would make even my brain explode. I was happy for Georgia last year and never expected Michigan to beat them, I generally find myself on the pro-Alabama side just because I think they - and until last year, Clemson - get a lot of unjustified hate that's more jealousy than anything else.

More than two teams in the playoffs though would seriously turn me into a raging SEC hater.

It really is a joke. I don't see more than two making it because of the massive backlash it would cause. I honestly think two is too much, and that's as a SEC fan.

Alabama to six so they can move to the top four after GA/Tenn and OSU/UM.

Beat me to it.

The problem with that scenario is that their best win would be from a group that includes Kentucky/Miss St/Arkansas and that might not be good enough to oust some other 1-loss team.

Though after looking at other potential 1-loss teams, it's closer than I first thought

Yeah, that's always my problem with the divisional rotation stuff. It seems like you are always going to have a team that rotates into nothing but the soft underbelly, and if they run those will have a great record. But it's just kind of assumed that if the underbelly is in the SEC, well, it's still the SEC!

I mean, it's probably still a decent feat that you don't blow all of those games. But if somehow PSU/Mich/tOSU only lose round-robin to each other, I doubt there's any speculation that anyone but the B1G champion gets in.

(Or take the hypothetical where Illinois didn't lose to Indiana and somehow runs the table in a weak B1G West, then loses in the B1G title game. I can't imagine anyone would say they should still make a playoff, even if they lost to an unbeaten Ohio State.)

I feel like if Clemson or OSU/Michigan lose, they should get 3 teams. Especially now that USC lost. That's assuming that none of the SEC teams mentioned finish with more than 1 loss.

A 1-loss SEC school should get in over a 1-loss Big 10 or ACC school.

If Oregon runs the table, with their only loss being to Georgie, all be it a bad loss, I think they may have a shot but probably not very likely.

Let’s say Clemson loses a close regular season game but wins the ACC. Should the SEC team get in over a 12-1 conference champ?

If it's the Clemson team we've seen so far (i.e. they don't look any better than they have) then almost certainly so.

Honestly, I don't consider the ACC to be a "power conference" any longer. I don't hold it in noticeably higher regard than the AAC, and I don't think those teams belong anywhere near the playoff either. Right or wrong, I'm consistent about that.

And that's even with me being in the "SEC is down, noticeably, overall" camp. (i.e. I'm FAR from sold on Ole Miss to this point)

Hogs have 2 on the Sporting News mid-season AA.

Sporting News 2022 Midseason All-America college football team | Sporting News

C Ricky Stomberg Arkansas
LB Drew Sanders Arkansas

Looking forward to seeing both in the draft. Sanders is a hand me down from Alabama. Grateful that AL has so much talent and let him transfer.

I think it depends on the teams involved. Not all losses are equal, not all wins are equal.

Wins, too, for that matter. I mean, Ole Miss has such a gauntlet of a schedule - with a laughably bad non-conference (Ga Tech being their only P5 game) and the potential that the only ranked team they play will be Alabama. Though some combination of Kentucky, LSU, and/or Mississippi State will likely end up in the bottom of the rankings, too.

As a UNC fan, I think/hope that the value of the basketball team will be enough to let them find a seat at the SEC or Big 10 table as things eventually shake out into whatever they are going to be.

But I also know how much of a culture shock it is going to be to go from being the de facto first among equals in the ACC to just another school in a new conference.

(And that's assuming that they do end up at the adult table once dinner is served--which I think is probable, but not guaranteed).

GT vs UVA showing why winning the ACC shouldn't really mean jack shit anymore.

Both these teams look like they've already dropped football.

Yeah that was a brutal watch. Gibson should never see the field again.

On the bright side, hopefully this means we actually look for a coach vs hiring Key

Surprised at the 26-10 Ohio State halftime lead over Iowa. Not the margin, but the total number of points.

Upon further review, about 200 combined yards in total offense and two of the three touchdowns in the game were scored by the defense.
