Poor shooting by Pierce and Allen so far is the only reason they're not. Unfortunately.

Not much defense being played in the middle tonight, especially by Gasol

God. Could Pierce and Allen be shooting any worse tonight so far. No way the C's should be losing even by 4pts right now.

That was a ridiculous foul call. I believe it was a foul and should have been a foul, but call it whether its going in or not. Not after it was missed

Ray Allen's shooting performance tonight is clearly an example of stat balancing.

Thanks to a call from upstairs from Mr.Stern at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Geez the NBA should at least try to make it not look so fucking blatantly obvious. The Celtics are battling Sterm=n and the Lakers since I am sure he wants the Kobe story to prevail in 7.

I still have no idea how an NBA game is supposed to be officiated. You'd have thought in the 4th of an absolutely key finals game they would be calling it consistently, but it's just terrible. No call on guys getting hacked right underneath the basket and then ticky tack off ball fouls and phantom shooting foul calls. It just doesn't make sense to me as a casual fan.

Give the Lakers credit.. that's some tough shots they're hitting, although Fisher was way out of control on that shot a couple minutes back.. should have been offensive.

again, credit to the Lakers. The Celtics didn't blow this one. The Lakers went out and took it.

Celtics poor shooting by Pierce and Allen cost them the game though Foz. And they had open looks...the defense wasn't that phenomenal.

That was a (dumb) foul on Garnett, but the amount of flopping in the NBA is getting ridiculous... and that includes Celtics like Ray Allen and Davis.

Well I can certainly understand why they'd want to forget his MVP performance in the 2008 finals.

I'm not sure why you think this is something they would even think about or care about. They have a more recent championship and a more recent NBA Finals MVP. No one's quaking in their boots over Pierce.

Laughing at him running his mouth? Yeah, they're probably doing that.

Paul Pierce should've just shut his mouth and taken that game 2 win for what it was. I never understand why you would give your opponents emotional incentive to beat you.

"Bulletin board" talk is one of the most ridiculous things people continue to bring up in sports. And it's always considered after the fact. If the Celts did win all three at home, people would praise Pierce for his words and talk about his leadership. See: Namath, Joe.

I find it hard to believe the Lakers were just going to tank this game until they read Pierce's comments.

Speaking of the Clippers, David Geffen made an offer to buy 51% of the Clippers. Sterling told him they arent for sale

Yeah, saw that report. Frickin' Sterling. Geffen, who is friends with LeBron, even basically said he could get LeBron to LA (don't know if it's true, just saying the report indicated he thought he could), but only if Geffen's calling the shots.

Sterling is a cancer of a human being, when you get right down to it. Whatever bad karma the Clips got going on, it's all because of him.

edit: Then again, the Lakers could win the next two, and Pierce would be a Prophet!

Count me (someone who doesn't root for either of these teams FWIW) firmly in the camp that believes that if you aren't already playing to the top of your effort and ability levels in the NBA finals without stupid comments by players on the other team then something is very wrong with you as an athlete.

Or, to put it another way, isn't poking at the Pierce comments a knock against your own team? Suggesting that the Lakers took their game/effort/whatever to "another level" because of the Pierce comments seems to me to suggest that they weren't trying their hardest in the first place.

/shurg.

Well, for me at least, it's not about the Lakers but about Pierce.

I am rooting for the Lakers, because Kobe is my favorite player. But I think most people who visit the basketball discussions here know I am a Clippers fan, and that that Clippers devotion is far stronger than for the Lakers, a distant second among NBA teams in my rooting interests (for example, I come close to rooting for high end UCLA players' teams, like Westbrook with OK City and KLove with the Wolves, as much as the Lakers).

But with Pierce, I started disliking him when he chose Kansas over local team UCLA in the 90s (irrational fan dislike, sure, but whatever...). When he went to a usually bad Celtics team, I stopped paying close attention, but their return to prominence has reminded me that he always seemed like a punk to me, and if anything has gotten even more "punkish". Plus, he's such a drama queen. I can't stand it when he gets that look on his face, like "How is that not a foul?" that he does every time (yes, I know he's not the only one, Kobe does it, too; we're talking irrational dislike here ). And the over playing of every grievance or injury. Quentin Richardson was exactly right about him.

So when you toss on him saying something like that in Game Two. It's such an arrogant, presumptious and stupid comment. I don't like any of those qualities. When you say something like that, you deserve to have karma come along and kick you in the behind.

If the Celtics don't pick it up, Paul Pierce might get his wish to not return to LA... though perhaps not for the reason he had hoped!
