Yeah, this is what you want to hear from your QB that you drafted 4th overall.

The Colts are entering a dark age not seen since the 90s
It was the most baffling of all the over-hyped quarterbacks. He has to be the worse college qb I ever saw play to get drafted in the first round. I thought before all the pre-draft hype that he was a guy someone would take a flier on, and maybe turn him into a tight end because of his physical talents. I just never understood how they thought a guy who couldn't handle the speed of the game in college was going to make it in the NFL.

George Steinbrenner would be firing the whole coaching staff at the post game presser.

The worst two things about Richardson:

—He actually looked really good last season before all the injuries. Whatever prep and gameplan they had for him was working before it all came undone with injuries.

—Despite that he still says he isn’t willing to slide. He thinks he has a physical advantage over smaller defenders.

Whatever he showed last year has completely left him. He’s not a QB right now. It seemed like he was actually coached this week to not launch the ball 10,000 MPH all the time but he took it so far that as an observer I was sitting here wondering if he had a shoulder injury because he was taking so much off some throws that they were just hanging in the air waiting to get knocked down. I really don’t know what you can do with him at this point besides sit him and hope he’s ready to play when Flacco is ready to retire.

Guess who's guy caught the ball? Guess who never was able track him after spending the first 5 seconds of the play taunting the crowd?

He was also supposed to be the guy on that trail receiver and instead tried to be the hero and bat the ball down. Instead he tips it right to the guy he was supposed to be on.

He's really bad but our GM hates giving up on his busts.

He also had a terrible unsportsmanlike penalty today too.

to be fair, he had two very long scramble plays on the previous two plays, it was third and half-an-acre, and the call was for a handoff. One peril of having a mobile QB,

So, I don't recall the exact moment, but there was a swell maybe in the summer of 2022? when there were several teams that felt "just a QB short of being really good" and there was tons of buzz over who might get Aaron Rodgers, who might get Russell Wilson, and sorta off in the distance was what is going to become of Deshaun Watson.

Fast forward, all three get traded to AFC teams.

We're not completely done with the fallout, but... imagine the proper tally of all the draft capital, franchise redirection, and so forth that landed along with those QB trades to their respective teams. And, as it stands now, it appears that none of them benefitted even a small amount from those investments. Holy cow, what a tally. The Watson trade saga is monstrous on its own, and would look even worse if one of the other guys who could have cost less actually turned into a pot of gold, but... take the three together and it's just overwhelming.

The fact that the Browns are where they are and Baker is playing like one of the best qbs in the league is franchise crippling.

I just saw a stat that Watson never threw for 300 yards in any of the 19 games he played for the Browns, but Flacco/Winston combined threw for 300 yards in 6 of their 7 starts.

Maybe the lesson is that if a "franchise" QB is available, then there is a reason. Because no team would part with one without a reason. So even if you cannot figure out what the reason is, you can be pretty confident that it exists.

Looked at that way, Watson was arguably the safest of the three because the reason Houston wanted to get rid of him seemed pretty apparent.

Watson sat out the 2021 season after demanding a trade, one year into a four-year, $156-million contract with the Texans.

During that time, the massage story broke, developed, lawsuits were filed, a grand jury in Texas refused to charge him.

And yet, because he was pretty damned good in 2020, presumably entering his prime, there were still teams interested in trading for him.

I don't know what the lesson is. The Texans were delighted with him until he refused to play. And then the Texans were delighted to find teams still willing to give up multiple first-round picks to get him.

Still... he would quickly have been the most popular guy in Cleveland this side of LeBron had he been as good as he was in Houston.

If there's a lesson, it's not to trust players who get the big money, then don't seem to want to play anymore.

I think the lesson is don't give that kind of guaranteed money to a player with those kind of red flags. Even if you thought he could turn into a franchise QB, the off field stuff should show that he has some severe mental issues and can't be trusted.

I know you are joking but yeah you can't teach size.

Is there a more perfect mashup for the perfect NFL QB than the potential of Anthony Richardson's physical tools and the potential of Bryce Young's accuracy, football IQ, decision-making and poise?

Exactly. To be honest, either the massage stuff or the sitting out after just signing a contract should have been enough. The fact that he had both, and multiple teams where willing to toss off their current serviceable or better quarterbacks and mortgage their future draft and salary cap on him is insane.

I don’t watch the Manning MNF broadcast usually, but whenever I see the Countdown segment with the brothers I can’t help thinking that Peyton is in this super swank home studio and Eli is on a cheap SNL set. Not even a real room, just a backdrop with props.

I'm not sure which offense is more dysfunctional - Giants or Yankees.

The number of offensive penalties and sacks is crazy.

He’s not an MVP candidate obviously and I only watched the first half, but Russ looked good to me. Mobility looks better, he’s not running for his life and his accuracy on the run is still pretty good even if there were times it seemed the arm strength isn’t quite what it was. One very nice looking TD pass called back because of a bad penalty plus another beauty of a throw over two defenders that Pickens couldn’t quite get the second foot down on.

Too early to make any solid assessment but if he does get back to being a solid QB in the 10-20 range the lesson is presumably that coaching and offensive line matters far more than just signing that stud QB to a massive contract and expecting the immediate turnaround?

Flacco named the starter in Indy per the Indianapolis Star. Seems that Schefter is reporting it too.
