Ledward on a Rampage, Hits for Cycle
Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006: Hugh Ledward produced one of the rarest feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Spring Lions in the New York 21-4 win at Morales Field.

Afterward, Ledward acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but he was more interested in helping the Legends just win some ballgames. At the postgame press conference, he said, "Maybe one day I'll look back on this day with more meaning, but right now I just want to come out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball, get a few hits and help my club win another game."

On his historic day, he went 4-7 with 7 RBI and 4 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the league record books. Maybe one day way down the road he will get out the record book and reminisce about his extra special day in baseball.

H. Ledward singled in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit a three-run triple in the 7th, grounded out in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off J. Barnard in the 9th.

This season Ledward is batting .261 with 121 RBIs, 119 runs scored and 47 home runs.

Ledward Slams Milestone Homer
Tuesday, August 29th, 2006: It was an historic day in the life of Hugh Ledward. The 32-year-old New York center fielder recorded the 400th homer of his career in the Legends 20-4 triumph over the Virginia Beach Surf.

In the clubhouse after the game, Ledward told BNN, "I was just looking for a ball to drive... and I got one."

In 1454 career games Ledward is hitting at a .279 pace with 1545 hits with 273 doubles, 64 triples and 400 homers while scoring 1166 runs and racking up 1118 RBIs. He logged 891 walks and owns a .377 on-base percentage.

Real Wins RL Top Pitcher Award
Friday, September 1st, 2006: The Pitcher of the Month Award has been picked and the Republic League victor is Maricopa relief ace, Jean Real. For his solid outings in August he has been named the league's premier pitcher.

During the month, the Rattlers star had 9 saves in 9 save opportunities, a 0.00 ERA and 1 win and no losses. In 11.2 innings Real struck out 15 and gave up 5 hits and 0 walks.

This season Real has recorded a 3-10 won-lost mark, pitched in 58 relief appearances and rung up 36 saves. He has a 4.25 ERA and has allowed 57 hits over his 55 innings of work, struck out 61 batters and walked 21.

Banana Sluggers Savard Named CL's Best Pitcher
Friday, September 1st, 2006: Bill Savard has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in August and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Banana Sluggers bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 13 strikeouts in 16 innings, holding the opposition to a .233 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 0-0 record.

To date, Savard has 25 saves. In 63 relief appearances he has tossed 79.2 innings, fanned 73 and given up 20 walks with 6 wins and 3 losses. The Havana reliever has recorded a 2.94 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .248 when he on the mound.

New York's Ledward Bags RL Batting Award
Friday, September 1st, 2006: A hot-hitting Hugh Ledward punished RL pitchers in August, hitting .298 in 28 games while racking up 17 home runs, 40 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

With those numbers it came as no surprise that New York's 32-year-old center fielder earned Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

Ledward is swinging at a .260 pace on the year with 52 home runs, 131 RBIs and 128 runs scored. He has played in 133 games.

Friday, September 1st, 2006: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Jaime Reyes put together a solid offensive month for Chicago and was crowned August's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .369 with 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

So far this year, Reyes is batting .334 with 21 home runs and 97 RBIs.

Kamida Named Newcomer of the Month
Friday, September 1st, 2006: Yoriie Kamida earned August's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish New York second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Kamida hit .278 with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and 22 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

For the year Kamida has hit .255 with 16 home runs, 68 RBIs and scored 77 runs.

Big Month for CL Rookie
Friday, September 1st, 2006: Youngster Álex Gonzáles emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Boston deserved the honor, batting .248 with 4 home runs and 24 runs batted in. Is the month of August a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Gonzáles enjoy the limelight.

So far this season Gonzáles is hitting .267 with 24 home runs.

Washington's Jenkins Reaches 2500 Hits
Monday, September 4th, 2006: With one swing of the bat, Britt Jenkins put his name in the league record books yesterday at Resettlers Ballpark. It was his 2500th career hit, putting him in a select group of players.

In spite of Britt Jenkins's achievement, his Washington Freedom went down to defeat to the Boston Resettlers, 3-2.

On his milestone day, the 35-year-old shortstop registered 3 hits in 4 at-bats.

For his career Jenkins has batted .322 and hit 67 home runs.

Alfredo Chávez Hits #300
Monday, September 4th, 2006: Alfredo Chávez circled the bases and raised his arm in triumph. He had finally hit his 300th home run. It was a homer for a lot of people: himself; his teammates past and present; his former managers and coaches; and especially his family, who sat near the plate cheering his every at-bat during the past few games.

Chávez spoke with BNN and said, "I knew number 300 would come sooner or later. I had to keep reminding myself, 'Relax, relax, just let it happen, let it happen.' And it finally did."

His milestone homer came in the Ann Arbor Wolverines 8-3 win over the Cleveland Naps. Chávez went 2 for 4 in the game, scored 2 runs, and batted in 3.

Chávez boasts a lifetime batting average of .262 with 1251 hits, 301 homers, 950 runs scored and 893 RBIs.

With 6 games left, Teng is hitting .402 with a chance to become the first hitter in FOOL-X history to hit .400 for a season. With New York having clinched a playoff spot, will they try to preserve that by resting him?

St. Louis 93-67 (1 GB)
Washington 93-67 (1 GB)

Portland clinches the homefield advantage in the RLCS! This is their second trip to the playoffs in franchise history!

Stafford clinches a playoff spot for the third time in franchise history!

Stafford 95-66 (m#1 for homefield advantage)
Washington 94-67 (1 GB / m# 1 for playoffs)
St. Louis 93-68 (2 GB)

Final game of the season! St. Louis plays home vs Balzac while Washington plays in Cuba.

Meanwhile, Teng has entered a slump that has dropped his batting average to .394. It would take a super-human day for him to now reach the .400 mark for the season

Congratulations Matt and Matt.

Only a couple more minutes until you find out if you held on to the #1 pick, Chief.

Stafford clinches homefield advantage in the CLCS!

Havana 1, Washington 0
St. Louis 1, Balzac 0

St.Louis and Washington end the season tied and will enter a best of three playoff to determine which team will advance to the playoffs! St. Louis led the regular season series between the two teams 12-11 so will have the home advantage for this best of three series.

As crappy as this season has gone, I better dern well have the #1 pick. AT least then, even in the weak drafts we have seen recently, there's no way I get a bum (at least not at the start).

Teng goes 1 for 4 for the final game of the season, dropping his avg to .393 for the season. Still good enough for the second best season avg in FOOL-X history, and only the second player in history to hit over .390 for a season.

Cool, #1 pick. So at least I have that going for me.

I didn't think I was going to be contending this year by any stretch, but I didn't expect a repeat of last year's debacle with the players I added. Very disappointing to not see any on field improvement. Will be curious to see what happened when I can look at the file late tonight.

Only new single season record of note, Teng this year broke the 1 year old record of Huerta for OBP in a single season. Huerta reached base at a .515 clip last year, while Teng did it 52% of the time this season.

One other note, since mattcubs seems to enjoy the NY vs the World atmosphere, he likely will have more of the same this postseason. Of the four postseason teams, only New York has ever won a FOOL-X title before (6 titles). So it is a good bet that the majority of the world will be pulling for one of the other three teams to win their first ever title!

Good grief.

I'm guessing Stout is now a 5-7-7 hitter and can do nothing anymore, and will sip Mai Tais while sitting on the bench next year. Or something like that. Don't you just love it when you shell out a ton of cash and get nothing in return.

His stats were almost identical to his 2002 season with Cumberland.. all the way across the board.

I think he performed as expected to be honest. He had better seasons with Cumberland and obviously with new york, but its not like he was a bum, was pretty much your best hitter.

Edit: Was 8th in the league for total bases, batting avg and runs, 7th in HR, 6th in RBI, 5th in VORP, OBP and SLG and 4th in OPS all of this from a catcher.. .seems to me to be the best catcher in the league not named Teng

Stout was pretty much what I expected now that I got to look. I just got poor performance from several other weak spots and lost a big gamble in my pen.

Wilson Ramirez has been the biggest puzzle for me. He should have been better than he has been, but he's generally sucked for his career. I guess the rebuild will be a touch longer than expected.

Quite possible, I'm sure Cumberland will be at the bottom of the league standings for many years to come! Though hopefully Chief wins more than his share of the rivalries as I hate picking #1 overall

You could always trade your draft crop to me and continue to lose (win the rivaly with Chief), if you hate drafting #1 so much.

I'll be happy to help your situation and further the cause.

Congrats you playoff FOOLXers.

In hindsight, I should have done what my instincts told me to do and completely gutted the team. I just about ran a bunch of scrubs out there, but I just couldn't bring myself to not compete. Now I'm pretty much locked in to trying to make my team better through FA for the next 4 years instead of taking my lumps and sucking for a little while. JT and Chief will end up being better off for their sucking, I'd imagine.
