Combined with something like OOTP's win now/normal/rebuilding modes for trades? Doesn't have to be over the top, but it seems like there should be some nod towards this.

I will be going with something along these lines although I haven't added it yet. Teams looking to rebuild should be more willing to make trades for draft picks, expiring contracts, etc.

And sorry for the quiet few days. I ended up going out of town for 5 days at the last minute now I'm home and starting to feel sick I guess that explains why I felt so exhausted the last day or two I was gone. Hopefully nothing too bad, I can write some interesting code while on cold medicine.

NOTIFICATION: Chris Bosh left practice with an injury. His sprained vagina is expected to keep him off the court for 5 weeks.

Very glad to hear. I just want to guard against everyone in the league being bunched up between 25-55 wins, which is what tends to happen when this is not accounted for, and it takes me out of an NBA sim somewhat. It's not a game killer but it's annoying and not realistic.

I was wondering with the historical season play will there be a replay type of mode which have you as a coach just coaching the team while the gm makes the trades that happened during the season sort of like what happen in games like puresim I believe.

Also Im kinda curious how did you go about putting in the defensive ratings of players before around 1974 since they did not incorporate the block or steal stat untill this time period

I'm considering some form of replay mode. I haven't fully decided how I want to handle it just yet though. It could be as simple as the draft is disabled an rookies get placed on the appropriate teams or there could be more to it.

For now defense is randomized in those years with the ability to enter in potential values for players into the database. The ability to override the potential rating for any skill for any player is present for all years.

Also Brian, you have to consider how you will handle players who were drafted, and then didn't play in the league right away.

For example, Arvydas Sabonis was drafted in '86, didn't debut until '95-96. Do you have him import when drafted or when arrived? I guess that could be optional as well.

I'm still working on making various sections of the game able to handle multiple leagues at once. The main core of the game has no issues there but some of the extra features needed to be adjusted.

A couple questions about historical league features - will there be an option to turn off free agency (as it didn't exist until the 70s)? If that's in play, could players still jump from the NBA to ABA or vice versa? And once free agency does come into play, is there any framework for compensation by draft pick (like baseball has), as the NBA had that for a time?

The plan is to have options for no free agency. I'll have to do some more research into that time period to see exactly how it was handled then to see if it is actually feasible in a multiple league setup.

Very excited...In the new version will there be some sort of scouting model to go along with the draft? Or at least more than just the single potential rating we had in the first pro game?

There are potential ratings for each of the individual skills like in the college game.

I may have to lead the Providence Steamrollers or the Sheboygan Red Skins to the glory that history so cruelly denied to them.

Something I'd like to see are more...ethnic names? The name file in FBCB2010 is a little whitewashed for me. Some Markels, Latrells, etc... would be nice.

Long time no update ....So I'll try to provide more updates from here on out. I've been working hard on the code that allows the game to support multiple leagues at once. Going back and converting code that was designed to only handle one league has been a significant process but it is mostly done. It also took me forever to figure out how I wanted to lay out the available options when starting a new game but I finally came up with something that I'm pretty happy with. The end result of all this is I've added 4 leagues to the game so far: NBA, ABA, NBDL, and Italy's Serie A. The three American leagues have full historical settings for league structure so the process of expansion and team movement in the correct years can be fully automated. The game will also automatically update league rules like the salary cap for you each year if you enable the option. Currently ABA teams will leave for the NBA in 1976 but I still need to add code to make the league fold. Coming work will include adding more leagues as well as adding code for how the leagues can interact. For instance it will be possible to set up promotion and relagation between leagues and it will be possible to specify one league as a developmental league of another league.

I don't play NBA text sims, and only play NBA 2K because it's just a great game period, but just let me throw money at you already.

I guess Im not sure one way or another but I think he just means getting the teams correct according to history at this point.

Unless there is some database Im not aware of for the teams to download into the game automatically it would be a very large chore for anyone to take on this historic players datebase alone.

If you mean due to random expansion then for now it is just possible to turn off random expansion at that point. Historical expansion can also be turned off at any time. I might also be able to throw in a setting for max league size to make sure it doesn't go over.
