Round 2 - Style of Play
Please submit your style of play for round 2. If you want to leave it the same, please let me know so I don't wait around for a response. If I fail to get a response, I will leave your settings the way the are currently. Please keep in mind that I am deleting any PMs to me in order to make sure I have space for future contact, so if your instructions to me used a setting that changes like pin placement as a key then I don't have that information so I won't automatically adjust for each round. You'll need to remind me...you can just resend the instructions if you'd like...but I'll need some reminder to make that change. |

General Update
I will complete round 2 as soon as styles are submitted. If I haven't heard from all players, round 2 will be run no later than Noon EDT (normally it would be run earlier, but I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning). If you don't have your style of play in by then, I'll run it with whatever previous setting was in place. Last edited by Breeze : 10-30-2017 at 09:24 AM. |

Let's try normal for all par 3 and 4, and aggressive for par 5 holes. Just to mix it up a tad.

The scorecard you posted for round 2 had me playing at +1 for the round, which should have put me at +2 for the tournament. I like my position on the leaderboard a lot more. Which is correct?

Ok, Got everyone's scores. This round I'll be doing some write ups on play. It'll take me a little while to figure out that format, and to build the running scores so I can post a more dynamic set of results. I hope to get this posted tomorrow.

5Cs - 3rd Round - Broadcast
The coverage begins with a beautiful shot of the California shore. Waves crash onto the beach, spray flies from water off rocks that sit along the shore and out into the water. A leaderboard comes up over the beautiful scenery… a voice over says..."Welcome to the 5Cs - we've had some pretty big shake-ups on the leaderboard already. It's early yet as all the golfers are just now finally on the course. Things could get very interesting so stick around: Leaderboard Code:

5Cs - 3rd Round
Let's take a moment to show how we got here. Prior to coming on air this is what happened... Colton Rhodes played the front side 1 under, but had he done a better job of scrambling on 5 and saved par he'd have been 3 under on the front. Plus he birdied 10...so while he's moved up in the standings, 1 bad hole has held him back a bit. Amos Decker an amazing long iron out of the fairway bunker on 6 settled in 8 feet from the hole for his first birdie. Aggressive play on 7 leads to another short birdie putt that was converted. The rest of his round has been solid Malcolm Reynolds is tied for the best round going so far. It started out a bit rough as he had to really grind to save par at 1, but then he converted an easy birdie at 2, confidently nailed a birdie on 6, sunk a big breaking 23 footer on 8. Then, like 1, he scraped out a par save at 10. Des Courtney missed a birdie opportunity from 12 feet on 3. Confidently birdied 6 and 9. Jake Doyle birdied 2, and saved par with his wedge on 9. Mike Schaplowsky par saves at 1 and 2 allowed Mike to dodge an early bullet. A great birdie on 6, but poor play on 8 forces a 7 foot bogey putt. Art Mullen, like Reynolds is out of the gate quickly, but a good bit of his score is impacted by this... Cut to video - Mullen swings his 8 iron, the ball hits the green and catches the slope and feeds down to the hole...then it falls in for a HOLE IN ONE! par save at 5 was big, followed by a birdie from the fairway trap on 6. Will Brown bogeys 1 when he misses the clutch putt from 8 feet. On 3 lost a birdie opportunity when he seemed to lose focus. A poor job scrambling allowed another stroke to slip away on 5. Dropped another shot at 7, but a huge drive at 8 help set up his first birdie. Rob Nielsen a bad decision on the approach at 2 short sided Nielsen and led to bogey. On 4 he had a 3 putt bogey from 40 feet. On 5 he was too conservative off the tee leaving himself without a good second shot option, ultimately leading to bogey. Did follow up with a birdie on 6, and a great par save with the short game on 7. Jimmy Fujita pretty quiet for most of the day, but a fantastic approach at 2 lead to a 2 foot birdie putt. John Puller approach at 2 was long, but he saved par. Made a clutch birdie putt on 3. Archie Goodwin a clutch approach shot settles inside of 5 feet for his 1 birdie so far. Branch Connally settled for par on 3 when he was in prime position to attack the hole. Clinton Jones great iron into the green on 2 gets inside 5 feet - birdie Issac Bell birdied 2 with solid play and a great putt. Ches O'Peake playing textbook golf through 3 holes. On in regulation and 2 putts. Will Robie birdied the first with solid play and a good putt Brett Hawkins perfect drive sets up birdie on 1. Saku Koekela missed the green on approach and a bad lie to a downhill green led to bogey Chuck Finley, sunk a 25 foot birdie putt to take the outright lead on 1. |

General Update
So I thought I'd take a second to explain how I'm planning to do the write ups. Each post will pick up where the previous one left off...in this case the next post will move everyone up 1 hole. So Rhodes/Decker will be on 12, Reynolds/Courtney on 11, etc. Initially in the thread I will post anything that potentially adjusts the score across all pairings, ignoring standard par results. As we move deeper into the round and pairings finish, par scores will start to be noted. Basically, the important thing for you to note is - if you don't hear anything about your hole you got a par. If you are confused, I think seeing how it will work might clear some stuff up. If after a few posts you still aren't clear on what's going on feel free to ask. ------------------------------------------ Let's go to 3: Will Robie and Brett Hawkins both have birdie opportunities. Hawkins is away at 12 feet with Robie sitting about 10 feet with a side hill left to righter. Hawkins putt runs by the edge of the hole...he keeps his turn and makes the 2 footer for par. He stays at -6. Robie can't seem to get comfortable with this putt. He seems very unsure and distracted. His putt never scares the hole and he has to tap in for par. Robie remains -5. ------------------------------------------ Now to 6: Deacon Palmer, who's looked confident all day, has a birdie putt from 13 feet. His putt is firm and in the heart for a birdie. Palmer moves to -5. Playing partner Branch Connally makes his 6 footer for par ------------------------------------------ 11 Des Courtney missed the green with his approach and he has a tricky little down hill pitch. He chips it up, it lands in the fringe and releases down toward the hole. The fringe took the speed off the shot and the ball settles inside a foot. Nice par save. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ Action at the 4th Hole Hawkins and Robie are both facing crucial shots. Robie is short sided in deep rough and Hawkins has another makeable putt for eagle. The long grass doesn't allow Robie to spin the ball the way he needed to and he's left with a 22 foot par putt. Hawkins has a eagle putt from 30 feet...which comes up about 3 feet short but the short birdie putt is made. -7 Robie misses his par putt and settles for bogey, dropping back to -4. ------------------------------------------ Now to 5: Issac Bell is already finished with a par on this hole, but Ches O'Peake has a tricky 13 footer for birdie. His put is well read and the ball drops dead center. Bell stays -5, and Peake moves to -5. ------------------------------------------ 7 Branch Connally is too aggressive with the driver, and the ball ends up wet. His drop is well back and he scrapes it around ultimately scoring double bogey, which drops him back to -1 -------------------------------------------- 8th Hole John Puller gets a little loopy with his approach and he ends up in the long rough right of the green. He fails to get up and down and drops a stroke -3 -------------------------------------------- Now to 10 Art Mullen who's been hot all day, is faced with a tough shot that will require him to squeeze the ball between some trees to allow him to reach the green in regulation. His shot clips a branch and is knocked down. He's finishes out the hole but he can't make up that lost shot. -4 ------------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ Let's go to the Co-leader at 4 Finley is facing a tricky 7 footer with about 5 inches of break to par. Koekela is already in with his par. Finley needs this one to stay tied for the lead with Hawkins. The putt is struck and it burns the bottom edge but doesn't fall. Bogey. -6. ------------------------------------------ Now to 9: Archie Goodwin hits a wedge but it doesn't release and he leaves himself a 17 foot par putt. John Puller is in the bunker and he needs to get up and down to prevent bogeying back to back holes...he blasts it out and the ball settles a very makeable 6 feet below the hole. Goodwin's par putt is missed badly...still 4 feet. Puller sinks his par putt (-3), and Goodwin cleans up his mess (-3) ------------------------------------------ Take it over to 10 Rob Nielsen finds himself in a deep greenside bunker, which is a weak aspect of his game. His out doesn't check and the ball rolls a good 15 feet past the hole. The par putt is missed and Nielsen drops a shot, and he's now EVEN. -------------------------------------------- 13th Hole Malcolm Reynolds who has looked great all round is starting to appeared tired. He's slow to get to his shots and his steps between shots have definitely lost some of their pep. This has lead to some less than solid shots and ultimately he bogeys this hole. -3 -------------------------------------------- At 14 Colton Rhodes appears to be running out of gas as well. He can't seems to muster the strength to execute the shots he needs and he drops a stroke. -2 ------------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ Let's check in with the leader at 6 Brett Hawkins, now the outright leader has a tough par putt from 8 feet to maintain his sole possession of first place. The putt is too firm for the line and he has to settle for bogey. -6 ------------------------------------------ Now to 9: Branch Connally is staring at another bogey. He needs to drop this 18 foot putt to save par…it doesn’t go in. So he drops another shot, now he’s back to EVEN. Deacon Palmer unlike Connally has played well and he confidently executes throughout this hole to get another easy birdie and he climbs into a tie for the lead at -6. ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 11 Jimmy Fujita needs to get up and down from the short side to save par. His chip is high and soft and the ball settles 3 feet from the hole. Putt is made, and par is saved. -4 -------------------------------------------- 13th Hole Jake Doyle – well executed hole leads to easy birdie. -3 -------------------------------------------- At 15 Colton Rhodes is aggressive off the tee on this par three and ends up short siding himself. He’s sitting in deep grass and the green runs away from him. There is almost no way to stop the second shot. Amos Decker is also aggressive and he ends up almost duplicating the shot of Rhodes. In fact, the balls are less than 5 feet apart where they came to rest. Both players chips do exactly what is expected – the run down the hill away from the hole, and both 2 putt from 30+ feet to bogey. Decker (-2), Rhodes (-1) ------------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ At 6 Saku Koekela is in good position with a short iron approach looking to get close for a birdie run, but the shot spins back hard, off the green and down the front slope, leaving him about a 20 yard chip to the green. He fails to get up and down and ends up with a very disappointing bogey. - 4 ------------------------------------------ Now to 11 John Puller a poor stroke with a short iron in his hand results in a tough downhill chip. He’s able to get up and down, but he lost a shot at a birdie. ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 12 Jimmy Fujita after the strong up and down, his iron approach is excellent, stopping inside 8 feet. Birdie converted and now he’s 1 shot out of the lead. -5 -------------------------------------------- 16th Hole Amos Decker needs to sink a 9 footer to save par…and he does. -2. -------------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ Co-leader at 7 Chuck Finley has a chance to take the outright lead, but his though side hill putt misses on the low side. Settles for par. -6 ------------------------------------------ 9 Issac Bell 1 under for the day and 1 off the lead, has a nice up and down out of the bunker to save par. ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 10 David Ginsberg after a bad bounce on his layup left the ball stymied behind a tree, Ginsberg attempts to hook the ball around and onto the green, but the ball is left right Ginsberg can’t get up and down to save par. ----------------------------------------- 14 Art Mullen is able to get one back here with a well-executed hole. He gets back to within 1 of the lead. -5 ------------------------------------------ Take it to 15 where both golfers are looking good Jake Doyle and Mike Schaplowsky both players have looked extremely confident on this hole. Everything executed as if they know the outcome in advance. Both birdie…Doyle -4, Schaplowsky -2 -------------------------------------------- Now to 16 Malcolm Reynolds hits a perfect drive, an approach inside of 10 feet and sinks the putt. Des Courtney follow Mal on the drive, the approach isn’t quite as good, and the placement is just too tough from his putting line to convert the birdie. -3 -------------------------------------------- 17 Colton Rhodes stops the slide with a nice birdie on 17. -------------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ Co-leader at 8 Chuck Finley This time he doesn’t miss the birdie putt, and he takes the outright lead. -7 ------------------------------------------ 9 Brett Hawkins Finley’s lead alone doesn’t last long, as Brett’s confident play results in his own birdie -7 Will Robie on the other hand gives one back at the ninth…dropping to -3 and going 2 over on the day. ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 10 Issac Bell looking to keep pace with the leaders he makes his own run and birdie but fails to convert. - 5 ----------------------------------------- 18 Terrible finishes for both Rhodes and Decker. Rhodes has an inconsistent swing that ends up in the water and he double bogeys to close the round. Decker seems exhausted and labors to a bogey. -------------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ At 10 Will Robie in trouble off the tee can’t scramble to save par and records back to back bogeys. -2 ------------------------------------------ Now to 12 Clinton Jones has been pretty solid until now, playing -1, but his par putt from 13 feet never threatens and he has his first bogey of the round. -4 ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 17 Jake Doyle is in a deep bunker in front of the green. He needs to get up and down to continue his great round. A bogey here would really be deflating. He blasts out and the ball tracks the hole. It rolls by about a width too high and stops about 18 inches away – par saved. ----------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ At 10 Chuck Finley and Saku Koekela both are in the trees off the tee. They both attempt to work the ball around trouble and get on the green, but neither can execute the shot. Finley’s chip gave him a run at par, but he missed. Koekela had to sink a 7 footer to save par, but he converted. Both bogey. And just like that Brett Hawkins in back in the lead alone. ------------------------------------------ Now to 11 Will Robie continues to struggle, but his 58 degree wedge saves him this time as he gets up and down for par. ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 14 Branch Connally and Deacon Palmer attack the par 5…Both are in prime position to birdie off the tee. Palmer tries to reach the green in two, but ends up short and left. Connally plays safe, lays up, then hits his approach inside of 15 feet. Palmer’s chip on the green is inside 8 feet. Both puts are made and both players record a birdie. Palmer is now back in a tie for the lead. That puts Palmer back in a tie for first and puts him -4 for the day. ----------------------------------------- 15 John Puller gets a birdie here and goes 1 under on the back and 1 under for the day. ----------------------------------------- At 16 Jimmy Fujita has left himself a birdie putt on the wrong side of this difficult pin placement. He hits his putt and the break is more than he saw. He settles for par. ----------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ At 14 David Ginsberg attempted to go for the green in two despite not leaving himself a good angle to the green. Second shot is wet. Forth shot is in the middle of the green and 2 puts for bogey. Bad decision costs Ginsberg there. ------------------------------------------ Now to 17 Jimmy Fujita gets another run at birdie and this time he drops the putt from 11 feet and he moves to 1 off the lead. ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 18 Will Brown sitting at +2 for the day, looks like this round has been a grind. He appears worn out and that shows in his shots on the last hole. He’s a little loose with both his drive and approach and he ends up scraping out a bogey. ----------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ Time to check in at 15 Clinton Jones decided to fire right at the stick, but he overshot his target. Then he failed to get up and down and he dropped another stroke. ------------------------------------------ Now to 16 Branch Connally after a horrendous front 9 score of 39, Connally is looking to get his second birdie in 3 holes. He makes the 7 foot putt and gets back another stroke. ------------------------------------------ Swing over to 17 Both Puller and Goodwin are in trouble. Goodwin is in the sand with a bad lie, and Puller is looking gassed. Goodwin’s out is poor and he two putts for bogey. Puller can’t get anything going and settles for a bogey. ----------------------------------------- And at 18 Both Nielsen and Fujita are also in trouble. Fujita found a fairway bunker and then hit it in a greenside bunker. Nielsen was out of the fairway and short off the tee. He failed to get to the green in regulation and his approach left a long par putt. Fujita’s blast out of the sand got him inside of Nielsen, but just. And neither player is able to make the par putt. In fact, Nielsen’s bogey putt from 4 feet goes around the world before falling in. ----------------------------------------- Leaderboard Code:

5Cs - 3rd Round Coverage
------------------------------------------ Time to check in at 15 Issac Bell continues to play with confidence as he birdies 15, which gets him within 1 shot of the lead. Ches O’Peake 1 under for the day with a lot of solid textbook pars, faces a tough 10 footer to save par on 15, the putt heads toward the hole and lips out…he has his first bogey of the round. ------------------------------------------ Now to 18 John Puller after a bogey on 17, he has an inconsistent swing and knocks the ball in the water. He then hits his approach in the bunker and eventually records a 6… ------------------------------------------ Leaderboard Code:

Will Robie finally get a stroke back after a rough round that saw him fall from -5 and tied for second to -2 and well back on the leaderboard. ------------------------------------------ Leaderboard Code:

------------------------------------------ 18 Hawkins and Robie finish up with textbook pars and Hawkins will almost certainly have the lead going into Sunday… ------------------------------------------ 17 Koekela and Finley both par 17… ------------------------------------------ 18 Koekela finds himself in a greenside bunker needing to get up and down. Finley has a 35 footer for par… Koekela’s shot is ok, but he leaves himself 15 feet for par, which he misses and closes the round with a bogey. Finley can’t make the birdie but he leaves an easy par finish. ------------------------------------------ |

Ok, that was much harder than I anticipated. If there are any errors in the calculations they are transcribe errors not calculated errors inside the game. The leaderboard at post #96 is the official one copied straight from the game...no transcription.
