- Moctezuma II has died! He has handed the reins of the empire over to Huitzililhuitl, an exceptional administrator and friend of Moctezuma II.

- Xochequentzin is the new ruler! Huitzililhuitl died after only a few years reign.

- Another uneventful-filled ruler has passed. Huitzilihuitl II has taken the reigns of the flourishing Aztec Empire.

- Portuguese explorers are showing up in the Pacific Ocean now. Still no contact, no diplomatic relations, nothing. They are avoiding the Aztec Empire. Maybe the Aztec's have grown to quickly? Too much trouble for them? Maybe the Legend of Moctezuma I has prepared the empire sufficiently?

- It is a busy year! The Castillians still have not communicated with the Aztecs, but Castillian "colonists" have suddenly appeared on our southern border in the jungles known as Nicaragua. There is no use for that jungle land, so their appearance there is surprising. These are certainly the enemies my fathers have expected.

He insists that the Castillians in Nicaragua must leave and is working to convince everybody that Nicaragua should be a part of the Aztec Empire, not a part of the Castillian Empire. -- The Castillians have colonized both Nicaragua and the Mosquito coast which comprises the entirety of what was once the uninhabitable southern border of the Aztec Empire. King Quitalahoc is furious of this news.

-- The Castillians have learned of the king's anger over their colonization and the relations between these two nations have soured.

-- King Quitalahoc cannot stand this intrusion anymore. It is time to rid the southern border of Castillians. The time now is for war! With the new technologies and tactic's the Aztec's have learned over the years, it should be a swift and easy victory against the colonist upstarts.

-- The invasion forces are ready. 20,000 Aztecs split into two equal armies invade and take both Nicaragua and the Mosquito coast! The new cannons will be brought to the siege of the Castillian colonies!

-- After sporadic fighting and quite a few swarming charges from the brave Aztec warriors, the Mosquito coast falls to the Aztec's.

-- Nicaragua, however, puts up a valiant effort in defense and the delaying tactics serve them too well as help comes to the colonists in a rather unusual way.

-- A force of 3,000 Portuguese Conquistadors appeared in what seems the defense of Castille! But the Aztec's learn quickly that it's not Castille that these new invaders fight, but for God.

-- Their violence was unseen before this and their guns and swords route the Aztec warriors easily and the entire 2^ndarmy flees back to Mexico City.

-- A massive fleet of Portuguese ships have appeared off the coast of Honduras! More ships than all the other ships seen combined over the last 50 years!

-- 6,000 Portuguese Conquistadors disembark.

-- The invading Portuguese army made quick work of the Aztec's fighting forces. On three different occasions the Aztec's were beaten in mass combat.

-- On the third battle, even the brave 1^st Army of 10,000 men under King Quitalahoc were beaten. The King was lucky to escape with his life.

-- The Portuguese captured much of the land of the old Maya Empire.

-- But without warning, the Portuguese offer peace for all of the Aztec gold and the Aztec's are only too quick to accept in hopes of refitting their beleaguered army and possibly fight another day.

-- The Portuguese surprise defense of the Castillian colonists is now long over. Six years have passed and King Quitalohoc remains determined.

-- With the Portuguese Conquistadors now gone, and the Aztec warriors refitted, the King again sounds the war drums to rid Nicaragua of the Castillians.

-- The Aztec's are weary that fighting Castillian Colonists will lead to more Conquistadors and their heavy swords and guns. The King does not listen.

-- Without warning, the King sends another 20,000 warriors into the jungles of Nicaragua to kill Castillian Colonists.

-- Surprisingly, there are no returning Conquistador's this time. After a year of siege, the Aztec's finally break the backs of the tough Castillian defenders and they have give up control of Nicaragua and flee!

-- The siege of the province Mosquito is over, the Aztec's are in control of the Castillian provinces with hardly a scratch to the invading army! King Quitalahoc has done it!

-- King Quitalahoc will never know why the Conquistador's did not defend the colonists. He dies in 1616. His legacy is the shaky additions of Nicaragua and Mosquito to the Aztec Empire. He is now known as the 2^nd most fierce ruler the Aztec’s ever had behind Moctezuma I.

-- King Cuitlahuac is the new leader of the Aztecs.

-- Ahhh, the Aztec's have learned that the Castillians, now apparently under the control of a far away foreign power called Austria, have very little say in worldy affairs without the Austrian's support. The Austrian's don't seem very interested in the New World and choose to grant us peace!

-- They have relinquished Nicaragua and Mosquitoto our control.

-- These new Conquistadors appear to have very little will to fight after 16 years of bloodshed between our two people's.

-- The known Aztec world once again is fully Aztec!

-- Well, peace didn't last long. "Castillian Patriots" and colonists have risen up in Mosquito to revolt against Aztec rule. It's an armed European force of 10,000 soldiers! King Cuitalahuac has no choice but to send our Aztecs warriors back in to the jungle to fight the rebellion. The 2-to-1 advantage means nothing though as even colonists are far more superior in weaponry and tactics. The Aztec's could not defeat the rebellion. They would need a much larger force if there is any hope to succeed.

After a 4 month siege on the Aztec people, the Aztec's lose control of the Mosquito Coast to the Europeans. They demand local-autonomy and the Aztec's agree to those demands. They remain part of the Aztec Empire, but there is no control or taxes...for now.

-- The Aztec's finally force their way back into control of the Mosquito politics and the Castillian colonists revolt again. They take control of the province.

-- The Castillian colonists have also invaded and taken control of Nicaragua.

-- The Aztec's refuse to give in once again to the colonist demands for autonomy and they swear loyalty to Castille! King Cuitlahuac I must now war with Castille in order to gain that province back. He knows he has little chance to succeed.

-- Nicaragua joins the Mosquito coast and has defected to Castille.

-- King Cuitlahuac I has decided the newcomer's cannot be beaten back. There are too many of them and further agitation will probably lead to the destruction of his people. He decides if he is to leave his reign in a positive light, he will have to throw away what Moctezuma I's frightening message nearly 200 years ago suggested. He decides not to beat the enemy, but to join them in competition. At least for now. The Aztec's simply must learn the ways of the Conquistador if they are to compete with them on the battlefield some other day.

-- King Cuitlahuac decides to mark his legacy through cultural transition. He has successfully advocated to his council that the Aztec should conform to the ways of the Castillian. The Aztec’s will attempt to westernize their people!

-- The Aztecs, with the aid of European missionaries, have converted their national religion to Catholicism. As it turns out, most of the nation was slowly converting to Catholics anyway. This still will cause some unrest, but overall, looks like a safe bet. The hopeful goal of this move is to make it much harder for the Europeans to attack.

-- Almost immediately...and expected...revolts break out in two separate provinces. The Aztec national army is split in two main groups and each is sent to an unruly province to put down the dissenters.

-- While the two national armies are putting down the revolts in distant provinces, a force of Aztecs rise up against the Catholics and attempt to take the Capital of Mexico!

-- Their army around 7,000 men. Although the capital is empty of soldiers, we hastily return 19,000 soldiers to the outskirts of Mexico City and time an assault where all converge on the city at the same time.

-- The battle was fierce and the defenders of Mexico almost broke our returning armies spirits, but the Imperial warriors prevail!

-- In order to slow the revolts, the Aztec leaders begin brutalizing the people in provinces that threaten revolt.

-- The rally cry of the nationals is that Westernization and Catholicism must prevail if the Aztec Empire is to prevail.

-- While much of the external strife revolving around the Aztec Empire has come from the ocean and from the southern border, a new threat has appeared on the northern limits of the empire.

-- A province known as Karankawa (southern modern Texas and Northern Mexico ) is suddenly occupied by French colonists.

-- The Aztec Empire is suddenly surrounded with the exception of a small strip of somewhat habitable land along the Gulf of California on the western side of the Empire.

-- These are dangerous times for the fledgling westernization effort of the Aztecs.

-- King Cuitahuac I has died after a long 30 year reign. The Aztecs are in a state of regency control until his son, Ohimalpopoca is of age. He's 10.

-- The revolutionaries are rising up in Tohancapan, just to the east of Mexico City along the coast. We have dispatched our warriors once again. Everybody is tiring of the warring, but the revolts seem to be subsiding.

-- Ex-Aztec Nobles and their people rebel in the southern most province of Honduras. The regency invests all 21,000 warriors at their disposal and they put down the rebellion with ease.

-- Aztec missionaries are working feverishly to convert the populations of the Aztec Empire to Catholicism.

-- Westernization is moving along…but still much slower than anticipated.

-- Ohimalpopoca is of age and is ready to take the reigns as King of the Aztecs. He takes command during a time of national weakness, but relations with Spain and France are at all-time highs. The border security issues with the Castillians seem to have caused no long-term issues.

-- Ohimalpopoca declares that the work begun by hisfather Cuitahuac I has completed. TheAztec Empire has fully westernized!

-- The nation has stabilized under the ideas of the west, national revolt is at all-time lows.

-- And only parts of the Yucatan and Honduras are still not fullyCatholic.

-- Work continues bymissionaries and the Aztec Empire will be completely Catholic within 5 years time.

-- The Aztec's are to train an expedition consisting of explorers and conquistadors to help grow the mighty Aztec Empire.

-- The American Warriors of the "old ways" have all been converted into Man-At-Arms in the European style. Can this military finally stand up to the Europeans?

Portuguese explorers have drawn a map of the "New World" for King Ohimalpopoca that gives the Aztec leader the first glimpse into his surroundings. He is astonished by what he sees and this "map" probably drove him to the belief that the Aztec's needed to expand.

The first goal would be to expand north...but the Aztec Navy has come a long way since it was "invented" so many years ago...and perhaps an expansion into the Pacific is in order as well?
