JR C David Ginsberg (Army) -- 13-14, 7-5 Patriot.

2/14/18 vs. Holy Cross (L 82-79), 2 points, 9 rebounds.
2/17/18 vs. Colgate (W 74-56), 4 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists.

Losing that Holy Cross game was a bummer, as they led it by 5 at halftime. David did well rebounding wise, but has struggled to get points.

RS SO C Jace Hunter (Xavier) -- 20-6, 7-5 Atlantic 10.

2/14/18 vs. St. Louis (W 67-58), DNP (Suspension)
2/17/18 vs. Fordham (W 80-74), DNP (Suspension)

A couple of much needed wins for the Musketeers as Jace continues to hit the books hard in an attempt to come back next season.

RS SO PG Randy Rodgers (Auburn) -- 12-14, 5-7 SEC.

2/13/18 at South Carolina (W 81-58), 13 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal.
2/17/18 vs. #23 Mississippi St. (L 81-57), 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists.

So a split for the Tigers, and Randy has a fractured nose after a collision in the Miss. St. game. He played through it, and seemed to do ok, but we'll see if he plays next week.

RS SO PF Ivan Carrillo (Arizona State) -- 16-8, 8-6 Pac 10.

2/15/18 vs. Oregon (L 52-49), 9 points, 3 rebounds.
2/17/18 vs. Oregon St. (W 78-57), 5 points, 6 rebounds.

That loss to Oregon really hurt the Sun Devils, as they led 28-14 at halftime. Tough one to lose. Ivan did ok, but he's questionable next week as he left the Oregon St. game with a sprained ankle.

SO PF Eden James (Boston College) -- 25-2, 11-1 ACC.

2/14/18 vs. Wake Forest (W 81-58), 6 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 2 steals.
2/17/18 at N.C. State (W 63-41), 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block.

Good week for the Eagles who continue to roll after that loss, as Eden was a force on the boards against Wake, not as much against N.C. State.

RS FR SF Chester Smith (Maryland) -- 19-7, 6-6 ACC.

2/14/18 at Virginia Tech (W 62-59), DNP (Coaches Decision)
2/17/18 at Virginia (W 101-79), DNP (Coaches Decision)

The Terps get a couple of much needed wins, but still no Chester sighting. Barring a miracle, I'd say his time at Maryland is over.

RS FR PG Al Mighty (Houston) -- 17-8, 9-3 Conference USA.

2/14/18 at Southern Miss (L 93-84), 3 points, 1 rebound, 6 assists.
2/17/18 at Tulsa (L 80-75, OT), 6 points, 1 assist.

A couple disastrous losses for the Cougars this week, damaging their NCAA chances severely. Al had a nice game at Southern Miss but struggled at Tulsa.

RS FR SG Ricardo Tubbs (UNLV) -- 18-8, 6-6 Mountain West.

2/13/18 at San Diego State (W 92-82), 3 points, 1 rebound.
2/17/18 at #5 BYU (L 77-65), 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist.

The Rebels hung tough against top 5 BYU, trailing by only 3 at halftime. A split for the week isn't going to help their NCAA chances. Ricardo seems to be starting to understand how important his minutes are, although he's still got work to do.

FR C Rudy Arellano (Long Beach State) -- 8-18, 5-8 Big West.

2/15/17 vs. Cal St. Fullerton (W 71-57), 10 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, (double-double), (POTG).
2/17/18 vs. Cal St. Northridge (L 61-46), 6 points, 5 rebounds.

A split for the 49ers, who didn't show up against Northridge. Good week for Rudy who got a POTG and a double double, even hit a couple threes!

FR SF Jack Dawkins (Syracuse)- redshirting -- 20-5, 10-4 Big East.

2/14/18 at DePaul (W 67-52)
2/17/18 vs. St. Johns (W 76-64)

The Orange keep rolling, now winners of 9 in a row.

FR PF Bam Jamison (San Francisco)- redshirting -- 15-11, 6-6 WCC.

2/15/18 at Pepperdine (W 74-52)
2/17/18 at Loyola Marymount (W 68-60)

The Dons get back on track with a couple wins. Kinda surprising, they've been better on the road than they have at home. Unfortunately their last 3 regular season games are all at home.

FR C Ralph King (Duke)- redshirting -- 22-4, 9-3 ACC.

2/14/18 vs. Clemson (W 105-46)
2/17/18 at Miami (FL) (W 84-66)

Poor Clemson might as well have not even bothered showing up. You have to wonder if Maryland won a game 105-46, if Chester would have played. I'm guessing not as Coach Turgeon seems to have it in for him. Alas, this is Duke, not Maryland, and they've won 6 in a row.

FR PG Benton Gale (High Point)- redshirting -- 12-16, 9-8 Big South.

2/15/18 vs. Presbyterian (L 69-68)
2/17/18 vs. USC Upstate (W 73-71)

That loss to Presbyterian hurts, they needed that one.

As you can see, we have a new #1 in the media polls, and Boston College lost some FPV to them. Yuck! Duke stays put while Syracuse and Maryland each move up a spot.

Xavier has a nice jump, while Houston drops big time, and UNLV loses a few votes.

Let's look at the Overall Bubble Watch, which features a new team.

This tells me that Houston was safely in before their 2 losses this week. Now for the other teams.

Boston College, Duke, Maryland, and Syracuse are all projected as locks.
Xavier is projected in.
High Point, Long Beach State, UNLV, Arizona State, Army, Auburn, and San Francisco are projected out

JR C David Ginsberg (Army) -- 13-16, 7-7 Patriot.

2/21/18 at American (L 80-63), 5 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist.
2/24/18 at New Hampshire (L 79-71), 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist.

Tough week for the Cadets, and especially for David who left the New Hampshire game with a dislocated shoulder, expecting to be out for a couple weeks. This likely rules him out for the Patriot Tournament, in which Army will be the 5th seed and open up against Colgate.

RS SO C Jace Hunter (Xavier) -- 21-7, 8-6 Atlantic 10.

2/21/18 vs. Charlotte (L 63-44), DNP (Suspension)
2/24/18 vs. Rhode Island (W 57-41), DNP (Suspension)

The Musketeers split this week, but they sure would have liked to get that win against Charlotte. Jace remains on academic suspension, hoping maybe he'll catch a break and be ruled eligible for the postseason.

RS SO PG Randy Rodgers (Auburn) -- 14-14, 7-7 SEC.

2/20/18 at Arkansas (W 80-61), 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals.
2/24/18 vs. #9 Tennessee (W 76-67), 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 steal, (POTG).

Huge week for the Tigers, who got a big upset win at home to even their record at .500. The fractured nose doesn't seem to be affecting Randy, as he got a POTG award and had an overall good week.

RS SO PF Ivan Carrillo (Arizona State) -- 16-10, 8-8 Pac 10.

2/22/18 at USC (L 72-55), 3 points, 1 rebound.
2/24/18 at UCLA (L 95-88), 4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks.

The Sun Devils seem to be going down a slippery slope now, as they are losing a lot of steam. Ivan is fully recovered from his injury, and now just needs to start dominating the paint again.

SO PF Eden James (Boston College) -- 27-2, 13-1 ACC.

2/21/18 at Clemson (W 95-87), 4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks.
2/24/18 vs. Virginia Tech (W 66-57), 3 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 blocks.

The Eagles continue to dominate, but Eden didn't have the greatest of weeks off the bench. At this point, I'm sure he'll trade any success he might have for a deep postseason run for BC.

RS FR SF Chester Smith (Maryland) -- 19-9, 6-8 ACC.

2/21/18 at N.C. State (L 76-63), DNP (Coaches Decision)
2/24/18 vs. Wake Forest (L 103-85), DNP (Coaches Decision)

Speaking of teams in a downward spiral, the Terrapins and Coach Turgeon have been for the last couple months. Chester is nowhere to be found, Maryland is starting to lose to everybody, and rumors are running rampant that either Chester, coach Turgeon, or even both, will be looking for a new school next season.

RS FR PG Al Mighty (Houston) -- 18-9, 10-4 Conference USA.

2/21/18 at #23 Memphis (L 73-66), 1 rebound, 3 assists.
2/24/18 vs. Central Florida (W 80-68), 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists.

A split for the Cougars, but that game against Memphis was the one they really wanted and didn't get. Al is struggling a bit at the D1 level, but he is a dynamite shooter, as he seems to make almost all his threes.

RS FR SG Ricardo Tubbs (UNLV) -- 20-8, 8-6 Mountain West.

2/21/18 vs. Wyoming (W 76-68), 6 points, 1 rebound.
2/24/18 vs. Air Force (W 77-61), 3 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal.

The Rebels have a very good week, getting their 20th win, and Ricardo is starting to take advantage of his minutes, another good shooter.

FR C Rudy Arellano (Long Beach State) -- 8-20, 5-10 Big West.

2/22/18 at UC Santa Barbara (L 70-48), 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal.
2/24/18 at UC Riverside (L 63-60), 10 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block, (Double-double)

Tough week for the 49ers who have now lost 3 in a row, but what a week for Rudy who collects another double-double, and even got a steal at UCSB.

FR SF Jack Dawkins (Syracuse)- redshirting -- 22-5, 12-4 Big East.

2/21/18 at South Florida (W 63-48)
2/24/18 vs. Rutgers (W 95-72)

2 more easy wins for the Orange, who have now won 11 in a row and haven't lost since mid-January.

FR PF Bam Jamison (San Francisco)- redshirting -- 16-12, 7-7 WCC.

2/22/18 vs. Idaho (L 77-64)
2/24/18 vs. Portland (W 72-63)

UGH! That loss to Idaho is unacceptable for the Dons. Not the kind of teams they should be losing to. Speaking of teams they shouldn't be losing to, they host a non-conference game against Eastern Washington next week before they start the WCC Tourney where they'll be the 4th seed and get a bye into the Second Round where they will take on the (8) Portland/(5) Pepperdine winner.

FR C Ralph King (Duke)- redshirting -- 23-5, 10-4 ACC.

2/21/18 vs. #16 North Carolina (L 81-63)
2/24/18 at Virginia (W 92-59)

Never good when you lose to your arch-rival, but to basically get hammered by them? Word has it that Ralph was talking trash on some of his teammates for not showing up against the Tarheels. We'll have to keep an eye on that!

FR PG Benton Gale (High Point)- redshirting -- 13-16, 10-8 Big South.

2/24/18 at Radford (W 73-71, OT)

The Panthers finish off the regular season on the right foot, and carries some momentum into the Big South Tourney, where they will be the 5th seed and open up against (4) Gardner Webb.

We welcome back Boston College to the #1 spot in the media poll, edging Kansas by about 17 points. Duke moves down a spot, Syracuse moves up a spot, and Maryland falls out of the media top 25, no surprise there.

UNLV reenters the mid major top 25, while Houston falls to 26th, just out. Xavier also drops a spot after their split for the week.

1 team in the overall Bubble Watch this week, let's look at them:

Code:
OVERALL BUBBLE WATCH Team Record RPI vs. 1-50 vs. 51-100 vs. 101-200 vs. 200+ SOS Projected -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Utah 23-6 .576 (45) 1-1 6-2 9-0 7-3 172 In Louisville 17-11 .588 (30) 6-7 5-1 4-2 2-1 15 In Oklahoma 20-9 .603 (20) 0-7 5-1 8-1 7-0 22 In Stanford 17-11 .597 (22) 3-6 6-3 7-2 1-0 18 In New Mexico 19-8 .562 (62) 1-5 3-1 9-1 6-1 126 In Wisconsin 22-7 .560 (65) 5-5 3-0 5-1 9-1 222 In Massachusetts 17-10 .573 (48) 2-3 3-4 7-2 5-1 63 In Northern Iowa 20-10 .566 (58) 1-3 5-4 5-2 9-1 119 In Charlotte 17-11 .587 (33) 4-5 4-3 3-2 6-1 17 Out Florida State 17-11 .570 (53) 4-5 3-5 3-1 7-0 52 Out Houston 18-9 .570 (52) 0-3 5-2 8-2 5-2 91 Out Fairfield 19-10 .566 (57) 2-3 2-1 8-4 7-2 86 Out Kent State 22-6 .556 (70) 1-1 5-3 8-1 8-1 188 Out Louisiana State 17-11 .578 (43) 1-8 6-1 4-1 6-1 37 Out West Virginia 19-9 .556 (71) 6-3 5-2 4-4 4-0 123 Out

Obviously the loss to Memphis cost the Cougars, as they move to the First Four Out. Now for the other 12 teams.

Boston College, Duke, Syracuse are projected as locks.
Xavier and Maryland are projected in. Maryland is losing ground here too, as they were a lock last week.
High Point, Long Beach State, UNLV, Arizona State, Army, Auburn, and San Francisco are projected out.

JR C David Ginsberg (Army) -- 14-17, 7-7 Patriot.

2/28/18- Patriot Quarterfinals vs. (4) Colgate (W 78-60), DNP (Injury).
3/4/18- Patriot Semifinals vs. (1) Holy Cross (L 83-63), DNP (Injury).

So David misses the Patriot Tourney, and they could have used him, as the Cadets were tied with Holy Cross at halftime but ran out of gas, and their season comes to an end.

RS SO C Jace Hunter (Xavier) -- 23-7, 10-6 Atlantic 10.

2/28/18 at UMass (W 98-90, OT), DNP (Suspension)
3/3/18 at St. Josephs (W 92-86, OT), DNP (Suspension)

Good week for the Musketeers who won 2 road games, both in overtime. Unfortunately, it looks like Jace is out for the postseason, as the NCAA denied his appeal to play in the A-10 Tourney. Speaking of, the Musketeers will be the 4th seed and open up in the Quarterfinals against the winner of (12) LaSalle/(5) Rhode Island.

RS SO PG Randy Rodgers (Auburn) -- 16-14, 9-7 SEC.

2/27/18 at Ole Miss (W 84-76), 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists.
3/3/18 vs. Florida (W 88-79), 17 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals.

Big week for the Tigers who got a couple wins over very good teams. Randy did his part with a couple solid games. The Tigers finish the regular season on a 4 game winning streak and get the 6th seed in the SEC Tournament, opening up in the First Round against (11) Kentucky. They probably need to win the SEC Tourney to get to the Big Dance.

RS SO PF Ivan Carrillo (Arizona State) -- 18-10, 10-8 Pac 10.

3/1/18 vs. Washington St. (W 70-66), 7 points, 5 rebounds.
3/3/18 vs. Washington (W 84-76), 2 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal.

Good week for the Sun Devils as they get a couple big wins. Unfortunately for Ivan, he sprained his ankle in the Washington St. game and gave it a go off the bench against Washington. Arizona St. will be the 5th seed in the Pac 10 Tourney and will open up the Quarterfinals against (4) Arizona.

SO PF Eden James (Boston College) -- 28-3, 14-2 ACC.

2/28/18 vs. #7 Duke (L 81-69), 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks.
3/3/18 at Florida St. (W 72-54), 5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks.

The Eagles lost a top 10 showdown against Duke, and Eden was consistent off the bench, although he needs to be doing more. BC will be the top seed in the ACC Tourney and goes to the Quarterfinals where they will play the winner of (9) Florida St./(8) Georgia Tech.

RS FR SF Chester Smith (Maryland) -- 21-9, 8-8 ACC.

2/28/18 vs. Georgia Tech (W 59-40), DNP (Coaches Decision)
3/3/18 at #13 North Carolina (W 73-59), DNP (Coaches Decision)

Good week for the Terrapins who get some momentum going into the conference tournament, even if Chester appears to no longer be part of the team. Maryland will be the 5th seed in the ACC Tournament and will open up in the First Round against (12) N.C. State.

RS FR PG Al Mighty (Houston) -- 20-9, 12-4 Conference USA.

2/28/18 vs. UAB (W 101-56), 2 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists.
3/3/18 vs. Marshall (W 55-54), 16 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, (POTG).

The Cougars had to get a buzzer beater to beat a 5 win Marshall team, but they finish the week 2-0, and Al got his first POTG award and was just 1 point off his career high. Houston will be the 3rd seed in the C-USA Tourney and will open up in the Quarterfinals against the winner of (11) ECU/(6) Southern Miss.

RS FR SG Ricardo Tubbs (UNLV) -- 22-8, 10-6 Mountain West.

2/28/18 at Colorado St. (W 82-74), 2 rebounds, 1 assist.
3/3/18 at New Mexico (W 73-62), 3 points, 2 assists.

The Rebels get 2 road wins to close out the regular season, and Ricardo continues to struggle with consistency, taking a huge step back this week. UNLV will be the 3rd seed in the Mountain West Tourney and open up in the Quarterfinals against (6) Wyoming.

FR C Rudy Arellano (Long Beach State) -- 8-21, 5-11 Big West.

3/3/18 vs. Pacific (L 65-42), 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist.

The 49ers end the season on a losing note, and Rudy struggled with foul trouble again. Long Beach will be the 8th seed in the Big West Tourney and will open up in the First Round against (5) Cal St. Northridge.

FR SF Jack Dawkins (Syracuse)- redshirting -- 23-6, 13-5 Big East.

2/28/18 at Cincinnati (L 75-73)
3/3/18 at Notre Dame (W 92-70)

So the win streak comes to an end, but the Orange start a new one to end the regular season. They'll be the 2nd seed in the Big East Tourney and get a double bye into the Quarterfinals where they will take on either (15) Rutgers, (10) Seton Hall, or (7) Villanova.

FR PF Bam Jamison (San Francisco)- redshirting -- 16-14, 7-7 WCC.

3/3/18- WCC Second Round vs. (5) Pepperdine (L 80-76, OT)

The slight hopes that the Dons had to make the NCAA Tournament vanished with this loss, and now they will wait and see if they get a call from the NIT Selection Committee or if they are relegated to the CBI or CIT.

FR C Ralph King (Duke)- redshirting -- 25-5, 12-4 ACC.

2/28/18 at #1 Boston College (W 81-69)
3/3/18 vs. Virginia Tech (W 70-45)

The Blue Devils end the regular season on a 3 game winning streak, and will be the 2nd seed in the ACC Tourney, getting a bye into the Quarterfinals where they will take on the winner of (10) Clemson/(7) Virginia.

FR PG Benton Gale (High Point)- redshirting -- 13-17, 10-8 Big South.

2/27/18- Big South Quarterfinals vs. (4) Gardner Webb (L 80-77)

The Panthers end their season with the loss, but they would have needed to win the conference tourney just to get into a postseason tournament.

Boston College loses their #1 ranking in the media poll but keeps a few FPV. Maryland jumps back in the media top 25 and Duke moves up a couple spots. Syracuse sees their losing streak end and drops 3 spots.

Houston re-enters the mid major top 25, and UNLV and Xavier both move up.

1 team in the final edition of the overall bubble watch, and let's take a look.

Houston is right there, and probably just needs to win 1 game in the C-USA Tourney to clinch an NCAA bid. However, a loss in the first game will see them NIT bound for sure.

The other 12 teams:

Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Syracuse are projected as locks. Good to see Maryland move back up here.
Xavier is projected in.
High Point, Long Beach St., UNLV, Arizona St., Army, Auburn, and San Francisco are projected out.

JR C David Ginsberg (Army) -- 14-17, 7-7 Patriot

No games this week.

RS SO C Jace Hunter (Xavier) -- 24-8, 10-6 Atlantic 10.

3/9/18- Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals vs. (12) LaSalle (W 68-65), DNP (Suspension)
3/10/18- Atlantic 10 Semifinals vs. (1) #25 Dayton (L 70-53), DNP (Suspension).

So the Musketeers fall short in the A-10 semifinals. Would Jace have made the difference? Who knows? Xavier will still be playing basketball this season, the question is where.

RS SO PG Randy Rodgers (Auburn) -- 16-15, 9-7 SEC.

3/8/18- SEC First Round vs. (11) Kentucky (L 81-54), 2 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals.

An embarrassing loss in the SEC Tournament leaves coach Pearl, Randy, and the rest of the Tigers wondering if their season is over or not.

RS SO PF Ivan Carrillo (Arizona State) -- 19-11, 10-8 Pac 10.

3/8/18- Pac 10 Quarterfinals vs. (4) Arizona (W 96-94, OT), 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal.
3/9/18- Pac 10 Semifinals vs. (1) USC (L 77-58), 7 points, 4 rebounds.

The Sun Devils just didn't have it against the #1 seed in the Pac 10, and now they will wait and see if they've done enough to make the NCAA or if they are NIT bound.

SO PF Eden James (Boston College) -- 29-4, 14-2 ACC.

3/9/18- ACC Quarterfinals vs. (8) Georgia Tech (W 62-55), 4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal.
3/10/18- ACC Semifinals vs. (5) #23 Maryland (L 65-59), 3 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals.

Not the way the Eagles wanted to finish the ACC Tourney, and Eden wanted better for himself. Boston College is in the Big Dance, the question is will they be a #1 seed?

RS FR SF Chester Smith (Maryland) -- 25-9, 8-8 ACC.

3/8/18- ACC First Round vs. (12) N.C. State (W 69-50), DNP (Coaches Decision).
3/9/18- ACC Quarterfinals vs. (4) Wake Forest (W 90-87), DNP (Coaches Decision).
3/10/18- ACC Semifinals vs. (1) #2 Boston College (W 65-59), DNP (Coaches Decision).
3/11/18- ACC Championship vs. (2) #5 Duke (W 85-80), DNP (Coaches Decision).

What a run for the Terrapins who clinched an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, although Chester was nowhere to be found during the celebration.

RS FR PG Al Mighty (Houston) -- 20-10, 12-4 Conference USA.

3/8/18- Conference USA Quarterfinals vs. (6) Southern Miss (L 73-63), 5 points, 3 assists, 2 steals.

Well, I think the bubble just burst for the Cougars. They needed this win and probably 1 more, so I'd have to say they are NIT bound. Al took advantage of his 11 minutes.

RS FR SG Ricardo Tubbs (UNLV) -- 25-8, 10-6 Mountain West.

3/8/18- Mountain West Quarterfinals vs. (6) Wyoming (W 72-53), 2 assists, 1 steal.
3/9/18- Mountain West Semifinals vs. (2) Utah (W 84-77), 10 points, 1 rebound.
3/10/18- Mountain West Championship vs. (1) #6 BYU (W 70-65), 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 1 steal.

Big time for the Rebels, who take out the top 2 seeds to win the MWC Tourney and clinch an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, which they might not have gotten otherwise. Ricardo was very efficient in the last 2 games. He played just 4 minutes in the semis and 7 minutes in the ship.

FR C Rudy Arellano (Long Beach State) -- 11-22, 5-11 Big West.

3/7/18- Big West First Round vs. (5) Cal St. Northridge (W 65-62), 15 points, 6 rebounds, (POTG).
3/8/18- Big West Second Round vs. (4) UC Irvine (W 83-79, OT), 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals.
3/9/18- Big West Semifinals vs. (1) UC Santa Barbara (W 64-54), 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal.
3/10/18- Big West Championship vs. (3) Pacific (L 69-56), 2 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal.

The 49ers were 1 game away from shocking the world and winning the Big West Tourney, but they fell short in the championship and will see their season end. If they can keep that momentum going into next season, they could contend. Rudy had a huge tournament, including a POTG award.

FR SF Jack Dawkins (Syracuse)- redshirting -- 26-6, 13-5 Big East.

3/8/18- Big East Quarterfinals vs. (7) Villanova (W 95-92)
3/9/18- Big East Semifinals vs. (6) West Virginia (W 92-52)
3/10/18- Big East Championship vs. (4) #19 Georgetown (W 96-91)

Good tournament for the Orange, who survive a couple tough ones to win it and advance to the NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid.

FR PF Bam Jamison (San Francisco)- redshirting -- 16-14, 7-7 WCC.

No games this week.

FR C Ralph King (Duke)- redshirting -- 27-6, 12-4 ACC.

3/9/18- ACC Quarterfinals vs. (10) Clemson (W 109-73)
3/10/18- ACC Semifinals vs. (3) #15 North Carolina (W 73-47)
3/11/18- ACC Championship vs. (5) #23 Maryland (L 85-80)

The Blue Devils will take solace in knowing they eliminated their arch rivals from the tournament, in convincing fashion no less. They are in the NCAA Tournament as an at-large, the question is, will they be a 1 or 2 seed?

FR PG Benton Gale (High Point)- redshirting -- 13-17, 10-8 Big South.

No games this week.

Here is a look at the final polls before Selection Sunday:

Maryland, by winning the ACC Tourney, had a huge jump in the media polls, 12 spots to be exact. Syracuse jumped 5 spots after winning the Big East Tourney. Duke moved up a spot, and BC stayed put, but lost all their FPV.

2018 Selection Sunday

Maryland gets the 5th seed in the NCAA West Region, opening up against (12) Wright State in the First Round.

Duke gets the 2nd seed in the NCAA West Region, drawing (15) Pacific in the First Round. If the Blue Devils need any advice on how to beat Pacific, I'm sure Ralph can ask Rudy Arellano, as Rudy played Pacific 3 times this season.

Xavier gets the 10th seed in the NCAA Midwest Region, opening up against (7) George Mason in the First Round.

Syracuse gets the 3rd seed in the NCAA South Region, and will play (14) Liberty in the First Round.

Boston College gets the top seed in the NCAA East Region and awaits the winner of a First Four game between Weber St. and Lipscomb.

UNLV gets the 10th seed in the NCAA East Region and will draw (7) Mississippi St. in the First Round.

Arizona State gets the 5th seed in the NIT West Region, and what I think is a crock of crap and would never happen in real life, will travel to (4) Arizona in the First Round. Yes, I said it, Arizona. Their in-state, conference rival.

Houston gets the 4th seed in the NIT South Region, and will host (5) Western Michigan in the First Round.

No postseason for High Point, Long Beach State, Army, Auburn, or San Francisco.

And I screwed up, as I was going to make the NIT 40 teams so that maybe a few more of our recruits teams would sneak in the postseason. If the NIT were 40 teams, maybe San Francisco and Auburn would still be playing.

Then again, is it fair to do going into next season? Or should I just leave things the way they are? What do you guys think?

Alright, we've got 8 teams playing postseason basketball, so we'll cover them in this post.

RS SO C Jace Hunter (Xavier)

3/15/18- NCAA Midwest Region First Round vs. (7) George Mason (L 85-57), DNP (Suspension)

Ouch! Not a way to finish off the season by any account. Jace still academically ineligible and it looks like the Musketeers just forgot to show up. They end the season with a 24-9 record.

RS SO PF Ivan Carrillo (Arizona State)

3/15/18- NIT West Region First Round at (4) Arizona (L 87-59), 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists.

Not the way the Sun Devils wanted to end the season, although they were quite miffed that they had to play Arizona in the NIT First Round, and I don't blame them. Ivan wasn't really spectacular in this one, as he saw his minutes limited due to foul trouble. The Sun Devils finish with a 19-12 record, still much improved over the last couple seasons.

SO PF Eden James (Boston College)

3/16/18- NCAA East Region First Round vs. (16) Lipscomb (W 87-69), 10 points, 6 rebounds.
3/18/18- NCAA East Region Second Round vs. (9) Northeastern (W 88-69), 7 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists.
3/23/18- NCAA East Regional Semifinal vs. (5) Georgia (L 70-67), 8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals.

So the Eagles see their season end maybe a few games earlier than they would have liked, tough since they were up by 7 at halftime. Eden had 3 great performances off the bench, and he has to be in line for some kind of award. BC ended the season 31-5.

RS FR SF Chester Smith (Maryland)

3/16/18- NCAA West Region First Round vs. (12) Wright St. (W 94-68), DNP (Coaches Decision)
3/18/18- NCAA West Region Second Round vs. (4) Nevada (W 94-66), DNP (Coaches Decision)
3/22/18- NCAA West Regional Semifinal vs. (1) Texas (L 78-46), 1 minute, missed only shot.

Somehow Coach Turgeon got Chester to come along for the ride, and gave him a cheap token minute in the blowout loss to Texas, probably the last time Chester will play a game in a Maryland uniform. I'd be shocked if he doesn't transfer. Maryland finished 27-10 on the season.

RS FR PG Al Mighty (Houston)

3/15/18- NIT South Region First Round vs. (5) Western Michigan (W 84-66), 10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block.
3/18/18- NIT South Region Second Round at (1) Louisville (L 79-69), 14 points, 1 assist.

The Cougars will be thinking about this one for a while, as they led by 13 at halftime before letting the always powerful Cardinals back into it. Houston was outscored 46-23 in the second half, and finishes their season 21-11. Al had a couple nice scoring games off the bench, something to build on for next season.

RS FR SG Ricardo Tubbs (UNLV)

3/16/18- NCAA East Region First Round vs. (7) Mississippi State (L 87-81), 5 points, 1 rebound.

The Rebels battled against the Bulldogs, but just didn't have enough, as they end the season 25-9, and Ricardo will look to find some consistency in the offseason.

FR SF Jack Dawkins (Syracuse)- redshirting

3/15/18- NCAA South First Round vs. (14) Liberty (W 77-57)
3/17/18- NCAA South Second Round vs. (6) Butler (W 90-75)
3/22/18- NCAA South Regional Semifinal vs. (2) Missouri (L 101-94)

So the Orange fall short in a shootout against Missouri, and finish the season 28-7.

FR C Ralph King (Duke)- redshirting

3/15/18- NCAA West Region First Round vs. (15) Pacific (W 74-39)
3/17/18- NCAA West Region Second Round vs. (10) UCLA (W 89-76)
3/22/18- NCAA West Regional Semifinal vs. (3) Georgetown (W 69-49)
3/24/18- NCAA West Regional Final vs. (1) Texas (W 74-50)
3/31/18- NCAA Final Four vs. (5S) Oklahoma St. (W 83-49)
4/2/18- NCAA Championship vs. (1MW) Kansas (W 91-80)

What a run for the Blue Devils, who win the national championship in what might be Coach K's final season. We'll have to see if he chooses to retire or come back and defend his title next season. Ralph surely has a vested interest as he wants to play for the legend that is Coach K.

Season Wrap-up will be in a separate post because I am running short on time and still have to get my mile walk in before work.

2017-2018 Season Wrap-Up

Next Years Recruits

Let's take a look at how our 6 recruits' new teams from this season panned out.

SG Jaybard Riley - Jaybard is headed to Michigan St., which finished 25-9 overall and 13-5 in the Big 10. They lost in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

SG Quikshot Collins- Quikshot is headed to Pitt, and the Panthers finished 31-6 overall and 15-3 in the Big East. They lost in the NCAA Final Four.

C Ariel Ginsberg- Ariel is headed to Georgetown, which finished 26-10 overall and 12-6 in the Big East. The Hoyas lost in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

PF Path Twelve- Path is headed to Oregon, and the Ducks finished 13-18 overall and 6-12 in the Pac 10, no postseason.

SG Thomas Magnum- Thomas is headed to Marshall, who finished 6-26 overall and 2-14 in Conference USA. Of course, no postseason. Yikes!

PG Mike Schaplowsky- Mike is staying in-state and heading to Kansas St., his 2nd choice. The Wildcats finished 15-17 overall and 5-11 in the Big 12. No postseason for them either.

Season Awards

PF David Ginsberg -- Apparently David has been playing at PF all season and I missed it, or maybe he was recruited as a PF, I don't remember. Either way, he was named to the Patriot League 2nd Team.

He was also the only one of our FOFC players to get a season award. Yuck!

Transfers

Only 1 of our FOFC players transferred in the offseason, and surprisingly, it isn't who you think. Somehow, I have no idea how, but somehow Chester Smith agreed to return to Maryland next season. I have no idea why, Coach Turgeon must have promised him plenty of PT, maybe a starting role? In either case, Chester is staying a Terrapin.

Bam Jamison, however, has given up his role as a Don and decided San Francisco isn't for him. I'll be sure to let him know where he ends up.

Conference Movement

There were 2 conference changes this offseason, both of which affect some of our recruits. Memphis is heading to the Big East, and South Florida is heading to Conference USA.

Coach Movement

To my shock, none of our FOFC coaches moved, retired (I was thinking Boeheim or Coach K might) or were fired (Herb Sendek was on the Hot Seat).

Bam Jamison ended up transferring to... Grambling State???? Really? Well, I guess he'll get plenty of PT there, but wow. Grambling was 15-19 last season and 10-8 in the SWAC. They won the SWAC Tourney and got crushed in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.

That completes Season 4, once I set all the coaches back to human, add in the real coaches for this seasons recruits and transfers, and edit the season 5 recruits, I'll get season 5 going. It'll probably be a few days though, hopefully Wednesday or Thursday.

Sorry for the long delay between posts, the weather was not so good around here during the weekend, so it made for a long weekend at the ball park as we attempted to get a junior college regional baseball tournament in. Needless to say this is the first chance I've had to do anything with any of my projects since early last week. I'm hoping to get going on this recruit/player dynasty if not tonight, then for sure tomorrow night.
