I was the guy who crinkled the nose and made comments to others that were smoking. Everyone in my family smoked at one point, and only my father and 1 sister (out of 3) still smoke. My mother smoked in highschool back in the early 50's when the surgeon general said that smoking was healthy. I hated when my dad smoked in the house. It is disgusting and intrusive.

I played sports in highschool and college and couldn't afford (health or money) to smoke. Just the thought of cigarette smoke made me sick. However, I picked up the pipe at 18 and smoked the occasional pack of Swisher Sweets (yuck).

Every where I went people smoked. Finally, I gave in and sampled the goods. I tried Marlboro, camels, etc. and trying them made me realise that my decision not to smoke was a good one. They were horrible. Then, about 4 years ago I became great friends with a guy who smoked Dunhills. I tried one and have been smoking ever since.

One thing I will say, it has made trips to the bar better. I no longer go home sick from the smoke. But, every time I light-up, I think of my daughter and how I am decreasing the time I will have with her on this Earth. Trying to quit is horrible. Not to mention the fact that it makes you smell like an unwiped ass (at least that is what I hear from my wife).

I agree with Marc: if you haven't started, I recommend you stay away from them. I won't lie and say I don't enjoy smoking. At first, I smoked for pleasure and a pack lasted me a week. Now, I need at least 10 per day to keep me satisfied, but usually I go through a pack diurnally.

Now that I've cracked and made that admission, I wonder if I'm only a couple of steps away from wanting to tongue-kiss Jaromir Jagr and give Bobby Clarke a blowjob.
