Went 2 - 0 last night.
Spahn with a complete game and then Nichols followed up with a good performance. Left for a PH in the bottom of the 7th (PH drove in the runner to give the Braves a 3 - 1 lead). That lead was added to and the Braves led 5 - 1 in the 9th, so MacMahon (who was brought into the game in the 8th) was left on the hill for a second inning, and he promptly blew up. giving up 3 runs, followed by Smoltz who gave up 2 unearned. Losing 6 to 5 in the bottom of the 9th, Jimmie Collins homered to tie the score and we won in Extra innings on a single by Aaron which drove in Otis Nixon who had singled and stolen second. |

Huge midseason matchup with the Grays. I'm currently 2.5 back and can't afford to get swept...

Lost the first two games to the Grays and fell 4.5 out. Then I was trailing 5 to 1 in the first game of a double header, but I scored 4 in the 8th, gave up a run in the 9th, but rallied to score 2 in the bottom of the 9 and took a 7 to 6 win.
In the second game of the double header, I had the early lead, but watched as the Grays score multiple runs in the 7th and 8th to get within 1 run. Thankfully, I was able to hold on to the 7 to 6 win. So we split the 4 game set and the Braves are no worse off in the standings, with a series against the Giants next. I was checking through some of the game logs and I discovered there have been 2 no hitters this season. The first by Bullet Joe Rogan, and the second by Three Finger Brown.

I am currently 3 back of Homested as they have gone on a tear, not just beating people but scoring double figures in the process. I have had a couple of tough losses recently...
2 to the cubs (one with a late lead) 2 to the cardinals Maddux has been pitching really well, but he keeps giving up just enough runs to lose, whereas Niekro seems to find ways to win even when he gives up 6 runs... We are over half way through the season at this point... |

As soon as I complement Homested they go 1 - 4 losing both ends of a doubleheader 1 - 0 to the Giants, then they lose 2 of 3 to the Cards. Unfortunately, I was unable to capitalize as I went 0 - 3 with 2 more bad loses to the Cubs (not sure why I can't seem to beat these guys).
I have noticed with my team, that I really lack a consistent hitter. I have a bunch of power, but that also leads to a bunch of SO and flyouts, which isn't getting me the clutch hits when I need them. |

Harry 'The Cat' Brecheen off to a good start for the Cardinals. In my first job in the insurance industry back in 1990 I worked for his nephew Jody. He had lots of good stories about his uncle, but hated having a relative for a major league player because he stunk at baseball and everyone expected him to be great like Uncle Harry

Went on a great run...won 12 straight and 14 out of 15. This put me back in first place, but only barely...
Interestingly, my run coincided with a serious decline in production from Aaron, who's average fell from almost .260 down to the mid .230s. Also Matthews didn't pick up the slack as his average remains just over .200. Most of my offense has come from Hamilton getting on base and getting into scoring prosition with his speed. Pitching has also returned to the early season form. |

2 and 0 last night against Houston. Came from behind in the first game and won in 14 innings, when Billy Hamilton drew a 2 out bases loaded walk. In the second game Maddux outpitched Schilling and we won 2 to 1...
Currently leading the league by 3 games... |

3 and 2 last night. Actually was 3 and 0 then lost 2 tough games. Gave up 2 in the 9th to lose one and a squeeze bunt in the 9th beat me in the other...

6 and 4 in the last 10...but holding my lead as Homested hasn't closed any ground. The cards have but they are still further back than the Grays.
Won my 1 game I got in last night...hit back to back to back home runs in the top of the 8th to beat Houston. Duffy, Jones, Aaron... |

Finally got back around to playing again....
Managed to go 2-2 last night, with 2 very tough losses and 1 fortunate win... Maddux lost to Matthewson in a pitchers duel. In the top of the 9th Maddux gave up a solo shot and we lost 1 - 0. Won the second game easily. Scored 4 in the first and 1 in the second...finished up 5 -0. Third game Glavine & Co. manged to walk 9 batters and throw 5 wp/pb...but in the bottom of the 8th, I actually took a lead. Unfortuntately, Smoltz didn't hold it and I lost. The last game of the night...Kid Nichols got behind early and every time I managed to scrape a run across in the bottom of the inning, they would score in the top to maintain a 2 run lead. But I scored 4 in the bottom of the 8th, thanks to a 2 RBI single by Aaron followed immediately by a 2 run HR by Mathews....this time Smoltz shut the door. Unfortunately, Homested managed to go 3 - 1, so my lead is just 1 game... |

played several more games last night while I monitored my son's progress on his homework...
Not sure how many games I played, but I got on a nice win streak...counting the last win from the post above, I had a run of about 7 wins before finally losting (bad) to the Giants (5 - 0). During my run the Dodgers and Phils managed to beat the Grays 3 times, so my lead at one point was 5 games, but fell back to 4 with the loss in the final game of the night.... After my nice run of 7 wins. I managed to drop 5 in row last night. It was ugly...as I lost to the Giants Mathewson and Marichial in close pitching duels, then was swept by the Dodgers Hershieser, Valenzuela and Koufax. In fact in the Dodgers' series I only gave up 8 runs in 3 games, but unfortunately, I only scored 2...
I did manage to win my last game of the night and Homestead split a double header so my lead is 2, and I believe I have about 12 games remaining (not sure if the schedule is 154 or 162 games)... |

3 -1 last night...with Homestead going 1-1...so my lead is back up to 3 games.
With very few games remaining, I have a huge matchup with the Grays starting...if I can win the series I'll be in good shape to win the division... Game 1 matchup - Spahn vs Redding... |

Won the first game of the series...BIG...13-3
I had two very nice two out rallies in the first 2 innings to get up 4 - 0...then the Grays went to the pen and I beat them up pretty good. Matthews, McGriff, and Crandel all homered. |

I played this over the weekend and did real well, going 6 and 1. I even got to 162 games and figured the season was going to be over....It isn't!
Not sure why, but the imported scheduled I used didn't load correctly and the season is going to be more like 174 games (sigh)...I thought I'd just blow it off and play the 162, but not every team is on the same number of games...so I guess I'll finish out the schedule. The 6-1 run opened my lead in the division to 7 games over the Grays... |

ok, got the schedule cleaned up and didn't impact any of the standings...figured out the dupes. Got about 10 more games to go and I'm up by 7.5...
I've gone 13 - 2 recently whereas Homestead has gone 7 - 8... |
