At the mall today, I saw the Cinnabon stand had a big "As Seen on the Series Premier of Better Call Saul!" sign up. I guess no publicity is bad publicity. But I did not get the sense that the show really painted Cinnabon in the best light.

From what I can remember from Breaking Bad, Stevia and Denny's also believe no publicity is bad publicity.

edit: I suppose stevia isn't a particular brand of artificial sweetener, but it definitely holds true for Denny's

Fuck. Me. What an episode.

When Jonathan Banks is on screen here it's like watching Olivier in a kindergarten play. What he does versus what the rest of this show does, not only a completely different level but maybe a completely different vocation.

Going back to the McKean storyline, or pretty much any storyline that isn't Saul stories is going to be downright painful.

If it doesn't the I truly have no idea wth they're looking for. TV performances aren't going to get better than that very often. (IIRC Emmy's are based on a single specific episode/performance, not a body of work for a season ... right?)

Rarely have I been so engaged by a story where I already knew the end. I knew that the dirty cops would end up dead and Mike would end up with a bullet in his shoulder. But I was still on the edge of my seat. Gilligan and co. are just so good at telling stories.

And, yeah, we are living in a golden age of television acting/directing. If Banks had put up that performance on the big screen, it would be Oscar-nominated.

Last night's episode might have been the first one that had more impact for those who have seen Breaking Bad. Those people already knew there was more to him than a grumpy parking lot attendant.

Like everyone, always liked the Mike character and Banks' portrayal of him. But I really did not think Banks could pull a scene like that off prior to watching this episode.

I think Jimmy's brother is going to end up dead somehow... and that is going to be the catalyst. Could be wrong, but he seems like he is keeping his nose clean out of a sense of duty to his brother.

This is my guess too. Having said that, every time I felt I had a good idea of what was coming next in Breaking Bad I was way off. I guess this is a little different because we know what's coming up on the horizon (however far away that may be).

I still think I'd have preferred a show titled "Somebody Called Mike".

At this point I'm pretty much hoping that Chuck drops dead soon, I'm over that storyline, never really engaged with it much in the first place frankly. I get why it matters, I just don't enjoy the character being on my screen. Not a big fan of the erstwhile girlfriend either, I know we have to see Jimmy tortured to give us the catalysts for the transformation that follows but I'm ready to move on.

The Mike storyline is interesting, but if this show was just about that, it wouldn't really be better or worse than any number of those types of shows that have been produced. Tough guy helps out those who can't help themselves, etc. etc. Or good guy goes bad for good reasons, and so forth. That story has been told a thousand times.

It's a good story and I am definitely interested in where they go with Mike.

But Jimmy's path to Saul is just as interesting to me, and it's not your standard story, nor is Jimmy your standard "hero." The Chuck storyline involves his development on this path and also involves the most accomplished actor on the show. So I am fine with them playing that one out. The end of this week's episode was tense and well done, and that had nothing to do with Mike (as much as I loved his scenes in this one).

i actually dis-like the show but i keep watching hoping it gets better... out of respect for Breaking Bad

The Mike story is OK, but I hate the Chuck/Jimmy story.. And think that the actor playing Saul is better suited to small parts as he's not strong enough to carry the show..

Also pissed they got my hopes up showing Tuco early on, and then not again. Seems like they could have went a different way, to me..

I hate the chuck storyline and it would be great if all of the HHM people go away . I assume they'll keep Brandi from Storage Wars around as a love interest though. Although she is giving Saul hamlindigo blue balls at this point.

I prefer the Jimmy/Chuck stuff, mainly because the Mike stuff feels like it could be in any generic "good cop turns to crime" story from the past 15 years. I think a lot of the Mike storyline love is directly related to where we know his story ends up as opposed to what is going on now.

I think the love being generated is more about the actor than the storyline.

I'd put the performance in the Mike showcase episode pretty easily in my top ten greatest TV performances (single episode) of all-time. I enjoyed it that much.
