I've actually become a bit of a soccer fan over the past six months or so, and hattrick has quite a bit to do with this. I'm in the same boat as vex on this one...willing to give it a go because of another game.

An online soccer management sim. Start on the bottom rung and work your way up (or down) through promotion and relegation from season to season. There are about 50,000 teams worldwide (half of which are in Sweden, where the game started). It's been running for about 5 years now. www.hattrick.org

That is what many hockey fans like to say when commenting on the state of the game in the US, but Canada invented basketball and it seems to be doing fairly well in terms of popularity. But I agree that the only true world champion has to be reserved for soccer. The SuperBowl, NBA, World Series and Stanley Cup champions are not "world champions". I might be willing to give on the NFL, because there really isn't a high-level of play anywhere else except the US but the other sports have a definite international dimension the precludes any of its member teams calling itself best in the world. Back to the original thread topic, I disliked soccer and thought it was boring ... until I picked up CM97/98 on the advice of many here. I've got CM4 ordered and can't wait. Wasn't baseball invented in Russia?

To my knowledge, Dr. James Naismith invented basketball at McGill University in Montreal. http://collections.ic.gc.ca/naismith/ |

Dola.
Reading the link, Naismith, born in Almonte, Ontario, educated at McGill University in Montreal, invented the game when teaching in Springfield, MA. Interestingly, it says he also invented the football helmet... |

------However, for Basketball, I do not think that your NBA champion should be called World champion. At Sydney olympics, you hardly beat Lithuania in the seims and worse than that, at the latest World Championship, your National team (full of NBA players) didn't even make it to the final four...-----
Yeah, the World Championships sucked, but we didn't have most of the NBA superstars. Grits teeth as I mention: Shaq Kobe Iverson Kidd I'm sure there are more, but I can't remember who else was on it, and I don't want to emabrass myself by naming someone who played. Although I do have to admit, that non-USA born players have definatly improved, and now it isn't where the US is a shoo-in, to win everytime.

Yeah, but the Lakers would have dominated. And the team that was sent probably would have won, if every other team had also gone without their 4 or 5 best players.
