My only problem with the team draft thing is tradition. Is this going to be the new RWBL, or something else? Obviously we'd restart, but the whole point of the RWBL was that it started rooted in real players, rules etc.
I'm probably biased and sentimental since I was there from 2002 (along with others) until we folded last year, but I would love to start with real rosters again; however, if the majority of people wanted something else, I'd be ok with it. Gotta let go someday I guess.

I'll probably get a Facebook discussion group going in the next few days
Your assignment- Think of shit that's annoyed you in previous leagues. Whether it be crazy player degradation or crazy low/high contract requests. Or other stuff. I'm going to be doing some testing. Also, as with anything OOTP, I'd like to wait until the first major patch is released. Would be great to wait fot them to work out obvious kinks. I'm not really opposed to real or fake universe. I don't like fantasy drafts though. |

Schmidty- I wasn't talking about a player draft, just draw guys' names and that is the order we select our actual teams, with whatever rosters they come with.

I'm not a spoilsport - even though I'd much rather manage the Giants, I'll be fine with any team.

I'm fine with fictional too, creating team names, logos etc is always fun.

My only problem with the old RWBL wasn't with the league itself, I thought everything/everybody was great. But I always had trouble with the roster sets. I think they are 1000% better this year so I'd really like to play in a league using this year's OOTP13 roster set.

I want a historical replay mix league (the new feature with random players throughout history)

start it in something like 1955, so it goes up and down (the HR Derby of the early 60's, then the semidead ball era of like 1968)

I will say, I think that a mixed debut league (maybe starting in '55 like Fozzie recommends) would make for an amazing on-line league. I can't quite describe how much fun the solo league with it has been. I'm pretty open to most league styles but if given a preference, certainly mixed debut.

I have zero interest in a historical league or a mixed debut one.

how bad would a OOTP rookie get killed in this? I'm interested but haven't ever really gotten into OOTP (probably because of not having an online league)
I'm up for anything and would do both a bigger real rosters league and a smaller mixed debut league (fill 1 league with real owners or something) |

Probably not bad. You know what you're doing in FOF, learning OOTP wouldn't take long. It's been so long since I've been in one of these that it should actually level the playing field a bit, so that's going to work out nicely |

Just find a trade partner right away. I was a rookie in the last league that was started but my life was made easier when Toronto was willing to take most of my high salaries off of my hands and even compensated me with some 4/5 star prospects in return. You will find people that want to win right away and some that wont give up their prospects for anything. You just need to find out who is who and work their preferences to your advantage It certainly is fun talking trade with some of the owners. Some are very good to work with others are really only interested in trying to hose you. Stay away from them:P Last edited by jbergey22 : 04-09-2012 at 02:11 AM. |

What are the chances we could do a fictional league, but edit one team to be the Detroit Tigers? Would you be in for that, Schmidty?
Only partially in jest here, I think it could make for an interesting league. |

I'm actually good with whatever we all vote on. I just want to get back in a league with all you guys. I had a blast for 9 years, and have really missed the interaction. So yeah, I have a strong preference, but I'm not stuck on anything.
If we do a fictional league, I could bring back the Cock Fighters....

After sacrificing a dozen dozen chickens, I've decided I would like to participate in this league.
I have no preference as to what type of league it is, although I like fictional historical leagues that use randomly debuting real players and their facegen pictures but fake teams that play in cities in Antarctica, based on highest populations in the 1940s. |

Eh, it's just the difference between generic sci fi and say Star Wars expanded universe stuff. Some people like to have a ground floor to build off of. I think it was Swaggs or Bsak who once had a great idea to start a historic league back in 94 pre strike and then go forward to modern days with real draft classes. Obviously there would be volatility on the players. I'm not sure how OOTP imports guys these days though. If the classes are real or if historic players debut in their first MLB season. |

I'm in two fast sim leagues with fictional players.
I would kinda prefer real players and/or historical players.

If we did fictional, it would ideally involve everyone choosing a team and location, and then maybe simming out 10-20 years for history/baseline performance/historical stats. I suppose in that case we could just randomize a draft order and allow people to choose a franchise and name it. The first pick might not be the best team, etc.

So by my count we have 29 people interested based on this thread. It also seems to sound like the people with more firm opinions want a traditional MLB league.
Personally, I'm flexible on everything - the IHOF was my favorite mp sim league, and it was completely fictional. I've never done a fictional OOTP league, so that may be fun. |

30 with spleen. If we go fictional, I'm strongly in favor of the team draft after simming 20 years or so.

As far as fictional versus traditional, I don't have a strong preference on players, but might have some difficulty immersing if it were fictional team names.

With fictional, the other thing might be divorce from some of the MLB roster rules and create our own. Such as the amount of time til free agency, days of service, waivers, rule 5, etc. eliminating and simplifying some of the hard to understand rules could be a good thing. Having fun is always cool, vs say, making sure your guy can avoid super 2 status.

I'm with Schmidty, I strongly prefer real over fictional and I love the idea of a historical league with real draft classes but am fine with present day. In previous versions of OOTP historical and importing draft classes could be real screwy so that's one consideration
That being said, if it's fictional it's fictional |

I'd prefer to start with real players. I do like the idea of a draft to pick which team you start with instead of first-come, first-served. Maybe people who insist on a certain team can trade for that team for certain "incentives" (a mid-level minor leaguer). I just have a few teams I don't want to be (Mets, Pirates, Braves, Marlins, and Nats). My team is the Phillies, and I am running them in a solo league. I'd like to have one non-Phillies team in an online league and run one team in a random debut league.
If we end up having waiting list a few years in, maybe we could expand to 32 and run an expansion draft. |

I didn't notice this before, but I would love a spot, if I'm not too late. Jays would be my pick, but a historical random debut feature would be very interesting

I like the idea of a league (fictional or real) where people pick their teams at the start, then we sim 20-25 years into the future before we take over.

I do like the idea of generating twenty or twenty-five years worth of history as well if we go fictional.

Unless I missed it, I don't see anyone advocating or suggesting a player draft. The draft being referenced is a "team draft"; (i.e. I will be the Angels, next player selects the Tigers, etc.)

Generating 20 years of history in a real major league player league kind of defeats the purpose. We might as well do fictional if people want to do that.

Hey, this replay historical mode thingie...where apparently it randomly chooses players from the whole history of baseball for the teams and subsequent drafts...can that be done as a league?
That would be pretty cool.

Welp, just bought the game. I haven't played OOTP in several years so I am excited to see how this edition shapes up.
I am definitely in for an FOFC league. I prefer the Detroit Tigers but it appears someone else already took them, so my next choice would be the Yankees. After that it gets kinda murky but I am open to suggestions. I prefer real and current rosters but am open to other options as well. Never did an online baseball league before so it should be interesting....

I'm def in for a league like this too. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea which is why I think we should get the 1st league going 1st before worrying about the historical one but I think both will be a blast |

Tons of ideas being thrown out here. How about we all just settle on the 2012 Opening Day rosters, random draft for each team and get this ball rolling?
