So let me get this straight, you think opinionated internet people are what's wrong with America? They're far worse than corrupt politicians or urban ghettos or even backward societal norms? How old are you? Six?

Where are the bags that eat bacteria? Think of the diseases that could be cured with a simple plastic bag.

Be careful what you wish for. That could set off a bacteria vs plastic bag build up which would eventually kill us all!

FWIW, I read a long time ago that Germany, at least, did push the cost of dealing with consumer waste back onto the manufacturers. You returned the packaging to the stores and they had to pick it up. As you can imagine, they quickly cut out everything they could.

I'm glad to hear of this discovery, though I think it's best to keep concentrating on reducing use to begin with. Producing the bags uses energy, and so will decomposing them.

Everything has tradeoffs, that's what many people forget. In other words, every seemingly great solution comes with problems, some known and some not known until later. Environmental and Technology solutions are not exceptions. You do have to weigh the cost/benefits and tradeoffs to understand whether a short-term solutions will lead to long-term problems. Sometimes it's beneficial to do, in hoping for the domino effect to better solutions.

To some radical environmental groups, that is exactly what the ideal solution would be. De-population, as they believe, solves many problems.

(There's a handful of people here I think I could actually comfortably go down that road with, Flasch is one of them. And he'd probably be disappointed if I didn't.)

Lemme get this straight though ... did he want to shoot you because you're Jewish? Or because you kicked him out of the league? Or because you're Jewish and you kicked him out of the league? I mean, would he have handled being kicked out of the league better if you were Methodist?

1. going down the road to a wrestling event while I constantly berate us for spending money on what was obviously a horrible showing.

2. I believe he initially wanted to shoot me for kicking him out BUT he was able to morph that into an anti-semetic thing by LUCK. So he generally lumped me INTO being Jewish because I kicked him out THAN gravy trained that fact into the leading cause.

3. I believe he's been arrested for pedophilia....or public drunkenness. one of the two.

"I don't need a bag, thank you," works pretty well for me.

Yep - never seen a bag at Costco, so it works for them.

EDIT - never seen a bag big enough for a 144-pack of TP, either, but you get the idea.

I usually shop at Aldi's quite a bit, and they make you pay for bags at the store. So I usually put them back in my trunk when I'm done unloading. If I didn't have to pay for the bags, there's no way I'd save them.

re: Garbage compactor. I've never seen the need for one. I guess if we had to pay by the bag for garbage pickup, then it might be something I'd do.

re: can recycling. My daughter and I saved aluminum cans one summer, figuring recycling was good, and maybe she'd make 5-10 bucks out of the project. 3 huge bags of cans, and about 40-50 cents earned later, we decided the whole process wasn't worth it.
