they're going to rush this one out, not only to capitalize on the good will, but also to compete with Shane Douglas's "Hardcore Homecoming" which was yesterday at the ECW arena

Most of the matches were in the average territory, but still had great heat due to the atmosphere. Tanaka/Awesome was brutal, not as fluid as their matches years ago but every bit as violent and Awesome looks 100 times better than he did in his TNA run. Rey/Psycosis was fuckin awesome, there were 2 spots in that match that were insane. The ending was good but alot of it was drug out as the WWE guys came to the ring, then there was really nothing happening, it was just a giant clusterfuck, but Austin was funny.
Alot of "holy shit" moments and a fun atmosphere with a couple of great matches, this was easily the funnest PPV ive seen in years. Oh, and Buelah is still sexy as hell. |

I agree with every word you said, with the exception of the sentence above. Nicho botched a whole bunch of spots. The look on Mysterio's face told it all, after the match. |

great show
First Wrestling PPV I have purchased since the last ECW PPV, if nothing it was a great 3 hours of nostalgia.....Some good matches and the crowd was just electric, you could tell there was a lot emotion for the wrestlers and for Heyman in particular, he really put his soul into the company. Class act bringing in the old behind the scene guys (Buffone, I forget the other name)
Show had a little bit of everything, great traditional wrestling, spotfests, high impact and of course a good old ECW Bloodbath in the main event.....Spotlighted the WWE guys too much, but at least they did not get physically involved until the end. In a perfect world Vince would scrap Smackdown and give Heyman carte blanche (and the old ECW roster) to resurrect ECW in the Thursday time slot, as well as alterante WWE and ECW PPV's every other month........if only the World was perfect..... |

I agree, a couple of real brutal spots, but Psicosis looked a step behind the whole match and Rey pretty much had to carry him. In terms of this style of match the 3-way was much better. I know they wanted to bring this match back as it had historic ECW significance, but I would have much rather seen Kid Kash go against Rey, that match would have been a spotfest!! I may have overshot on the Rey match, I was on the phone at the time and wasnt paying close attention except when my friends erupted, so it looked like a sweet ass match I guess if ya only saw the highspots.

Besides the Nicho/Mysterio match, my biggest disappointment with the show was the lack of mention of Pillman and Spicolli in the tribute. Any ideas why they weren't mentioned?

What a fun PPV. Those guys killed themselves to put on a great show. How can I go back to watching Batista vs HHH crap now??

TLK - I suspect that the lack of mention for Pillman & Spicolli was because ECW was still on the air & paid tribute to them at that time. IIRC, all the ones mentioned tonight had passed away since ECW left the air.

From your mouth to God's ear. Heck, I'd settle for Saturday nights at midnight (which is one of the horrible timeslots I used to get ECW).

Absolutely awesome PPV. I watched it with my old ECW buddies, and we both agreed it was as good or better than most of the PPV's ECW put out during it's TNN days. My favorite match being the Sandman/Dudleys/Dreamer/bWo match. I would have loved to have seen Shane or Raven, but I'm guessing their TNA contracts kept them from appearing. 1-10 I give it a high 8. Very well done.

found this, re: Spicolli
http://www.lopforums.com/showpost.ph...71&postcount=2 #8. Louie Spicolli remembered On February 15, 1998, Louis Mucciolo, best known as Louie Spicolli, passed away at the age of 28. Spicolli worked as Madonna's Boyfriend in Mexico, which led to a stint in the WWF as the grungy Rad Radford. After leaving the fed, he moved to ECW and a short feud with Tommy Dreamer over the title of "real innovator of The Death Valley Driver". By 1997, Spicolli went on to WCW and began a program with Scott Hall and Larry Zbyszko, which was just beginning at the time of his death. After Spicolli's death, WWF and WCW didn't even acknowledge that a former or current superstar had passed away. ECW took it upon themselves to remember Spicolli with a tribute show. During the show, Rob Van Dam wore "Louie 3:16" on his singlet and Tommy Dreamer renamed the DVD the "Spicolli Driver" which Joey Styles referred to it as from then on. At a time when ECW was known as the "lawless promotion in Philly with no respect for tradition", they showed their true colors as the real heart of the wrestling world.

I was a huge fan of Spicolli at that time, even buying a few "fan cams" where he actually pinned Dreamer. I wasn't a fan of his WCW run and really disliked Zbyszko after he trashed Spicolli after he passed away. I thought for sure Spicolli would get a mention tonight....
However, it was still a hell of a show. I can't wait to get the DVD. Last edited by TLK : 06-13-2005 at 01:08 AM. |

You may get your wish since UPN has decided not to renew their deal with the WWE. They will move Smackdown to Friday nights which is a death sentence because the key age group for the show is usually not at home on Fridays.

I guess at the end of the show last night JBL got in a couple of stiff shots on the Blue Meanie and there was legit heat from alot of people, even the WWE guys. I pray to the lord above that this angle continues tonight with Heymans input, oh lord how I pray.

Of course, he won't. He's a big star, so nothing will happen... just like Edge, just like Orton. But boy oh boy... if that really happened, put aside how unprofessional it would be. That was just plain dangerous -- with the way they had the crowd reacting to the WWE guys, and the number of ECW guys who really had nothing to lose, it wouldn't have taken much for things to get completely out of hand. Kudos to any ECW guys who saw what was going on for not reacting to it.

OK - just watched ONS and the difference between this and standard WWE fare is noticable. What struck me most was not necessarily the incresaed used of weapons or high impact moves but the pace of the whole thing - start match, action, win: no messing about and on to the next one.
In fact the only time it slowed down was when they tried to do the angle with the WWE guys with the verbals from the ring - the whole Heyman and RVD mic sections should have been cut a lot shorter IMHO and ironically them slating the 'boring WWE' was standard WWE stuff and almost destoyed the flow of an excellent show. TBH it would have been far better not to have had the WWE guys there and put in an extra match instead. I'd never seen a single ECW match before, and I'm assuming a lot of it was tamed down for the wider public viewers, but it was excellent and a cut above the WWE. Super Crazy was exactly that and I thought was the best of a number of good matches, the Mike Awesome match started slow but ended up being just a carwreck (I kept on thinking his opponent was genuinely seriously injured, especially when he went through the table on the outside), and the Dudleys/Dreamer/Sandman match kept making me wince! I've heard the name Psychosis before but he was absolutely terrible, and the Stom/Jericho and Beniot/Guerrero matches were average at best, but other than this it left me wanting to see more like this PPV than the normal McMahon product. And the Blue Meanie thing - was he the fat bloke in the tube top that kept jiggling his blubber rolls? Edit: had to add this as I haven't done Super Crazy justice - that man was absolute quality in his match - a f******g star!

Not particularly, IMO. Usually lost in the image of extreme violence is the fact that ECW had the most talented wrestling roster in North America for the better part of the 90's. The mix wasn't far off from normal in this PPV, minus anything done for the purpose of on-going storylines. Quote:
Other than the balcony dive, that was actually a pretty average SC match IMO. If anything, as good as he was, I thought it was a thrown together too quickly or maybe they're all just a little older (then again, aren't we all?) Quote:
Nobody in the business takes a chair shot better than Masato Tanaka. He's a big-time draw to me personally, so I'll admit prejudice. The amount of punishment he can absorb/appear to absorb is mind-boggling & he's been doing it for years. Quote:

I don't believe Storm had worked in a while, so there appeared to be visible ring rust. Always a good technician, it seemed that he & Jericho had to keep it simple & work a little more methodically than usual. Psicosis & Rey Misterio were both reportedly dejected in the lockerroom afterwards, knowing that they'd had a sub-par performance. Not sure what the problem was, both of them just looked rusty as hell to me. Also, I'm not sure how much Rey has left between the knee injury & the extra weight he's carrying. As for Benoit/Eddy, I never thought I'd see a day when a match between those two would leave me lukewarm, but neither of them really seemed to have their heads fully in it or something, a very going-thru-the- motions sort of match considering how much talent they have between them. Heh, yep, that's him.
