Google is playing games. I now look at my invitations and instead of 20 it says 13...
Anyway those that sent PMs got sent invites. |

How do you see if you have invites to give away?

You should have an Invite wave in your box. |

For some reason I don't have an invite wave either.

OK I started an FOFC wave, but the only person I have in my contacts is Dan. So I added him. Haven't figured out how to make them public yet.

Dan: I, too, just yesterday received the invite you sent out a few weeks ago. Very odd, because I had another friend invite me after you did, yet I received his invite first.

I got an invite from a friend, so I joined. I found the FOFC wave, and sent a message there. What's everyone else doing with this?

It seems dead, which is unfortunate, because I think it has many advantages over both e-mail and chat.
I actually found it somewhat useful for something I was working on with a group at school, however, the wave was constantly crashing. I know a bunch of people that have accounts, but no one is ever on it, because they don't want to go on it until other people are on it (and the network effects start kicking in). Very few people (at least among those I hang out with) seem willing to put in the effort to really explore it (free-riding problem, I guess). |

Yeah, I hadn't gone on there in quite a while. It was just too slow for real time chat (once it got long, it would crawl).

The fact that the 6 waves I have
a) haven't been updated in weeks; and b) cause my browser to consume about 300MB of RAM lead me to think that if it's not dead, it's certainly not far from it.

Well, it figures -- one of my waves was updated yesterday. So I guess it does still work.

pretty soon ppl will realize Google isn't much if it isn't aquiring companies with better apps. outside of gmail they really haven't done much on their own. they make these half-assed apps and when ppl aren't blown away by Google's greatness they jump ship.

Yeah. Google's a fad really. Android is on the brink of collapse, Chrome is quickly going nowhere, they will never be able to compete with the iPad and this whole advertising thing is a fluke and a flash in a pan. Seriously Anthony, stick to detailing your rape fantasies. Last edited by jeff061 : 08-08-2010 at 09:28 PM. |

That said, this whole Wave thing was sort of amusing given the hype and that it could really do what they said it could. End users needed to put the effort in to make it work and they just really didn't have a reason to do that.
Read an article that theorized that ultimately the Wave failure was due to Google letting the engineers dictate a products release. The tech and ideas may be great, but that doesn't mean it's all that viable in the real world. Edit for article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2367423,00.asp Being an engineer it goes against my grain to agree 100%, but I'm sure there's some truth.
