I would not enjoy football as much as I do if the Cleveland Browns didn't exist.

Breeland looks simply horrible for Washington again. Just getting torched time and time again. Cousins missed a wide open WR for a TD.

The Chiefs seem to be turning into the NFL's version of Florida State. The first quarters of their first two game has been brutal. They should be down 14, but Brock threw a horrific pass on the one yard line that was picked off.

The Browns are simply mauling the Ravens right now. They are outgaining the Ravens 197 to 29 thus far. Ray Lewis is probably killing someone and making them spin in their grave right now.

In non related game action news: Sources are saying the NFL has admitted to the Jags that they missed SIXTEEN calls last week against the Packers. Not a misprint. SIXTEEN calls. Wow.

The timing just doesn't work unless Brady gets hurt or starts showing signs of decline this season. I guess you could hold him for one more year & plan to franchise him, but his rookie deal is up after next year and we simply aren't going to pay a 2nd QB $15m/y+. You need that $$$ to lock up at least 2 of Hightower/Collins/Butler.

But that draft pick we'll likely trade him for this offseason is looking better & better!

The way things are going, Miami may want to pull a South Carolina State and ask that the 2nd half be shortened to 12 minute quarters.

Sorry, Unless we really believe we'll find someone half as good as Jimmy in the next 5 years, I pull the trigger earlier on Brady or pay them both for a year or 2. Why gamble with the next 15 years for a couple in Bradys twilight. Even if that means a drop in productivity in the short term.

Not saying this year or next, but year after next? Absolutely.

Skill players for the Giants are completely ruining a great game so far from Eli, as well as a great performance by the defense. The Giants would be on the verge of running away with the game if it weren't for a dropped TD pass from Donnell, a fumble by Vereen and a fumble by Cruz.

I wonder how many times the Steelers are literally going to tackle Bengals pass rushers to the ground with no call. I've counted 3 already.

And now Eli fumbled on the 2nd of back-to-back sacks. 3 fumbles by the Giants in this game, all 3 recovered by Saints.

So a finger wag at the back of an opposing player 10 yards away is now considered taunting.

I agree with the logic. . . BUT. . . that's going to be a ton of cap space. Osweiller turned his mini audition into 17 million per year, and he didn't look nearly as good as what this guy is. The Pats fans can correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me like you are going to have to resign Soldier, Hightower, Collins and Butler. There will be some money coming off the books, but unless Jimmy agrees to some ridiculous hometown discount, you'll have to sign all of those guys and still have room for about 50 million dollars of your cap to be eaten by two QB's.

I know the Pats are wizards, but I don't think they are that good unless they take some salary cap management classes from Bowlen.

BTW, tried to post this earlier, but it didn't work.

I'm a complete homer for the Pats, and even I think Gumbel is in the tank for the Pats.

"Pass thrown.. Complete." (said in a monotone)
"fighting for the first down.." (almost dead in voice)
BALL IS STRIPPED! (goes from monotone to OMG EXCITEMENT in 0.01 seconds)
"THE PATRIOTS HAVE IT!" (closest thing we'll have to an on-air orgasm this season)

Anyone else noticing the 49ers are competing against the Panthers? They aren't rinning and I don't expect them to win, but they are playing hard and competing in Carolina. Gotta give them their props.

One other quick note. Antonio Brown will end the first half with one catch for 16 yards.

It's only two games after this week. Even if they end up 2-2 they'll be fine for Brady's return.

The Giants defense held Drew Brees to just 50 yards passing until the 2nd minute drive at the end of the half that ended in a FG (giving him 108 for the game so far).

Eli is 15/18, 139 yards with 1 fumble. It'd be 16/18, 142 yards and 1 TD if Donnell didn't drop an easy TD.

Tom Brady is still a top 5 QB in the NFL and has shown very little in terms of physical decline. Jimmy G has shown enough flashes he's worth some team rolling the dice with him, but he hasn't looked as accurate as Brady and there is zero proof he can play at this level over a 16 game season instead of in a limited sample. Even before the injury he probably had 5 throws behind the receiver or high on the classic McDaniels east/west routes near the L.O.S. since the start where he looked great throwing upfield.

I'd love to keep him in a vacuum (and maybe Brady does start to show some decline, or gets hurt), but talking about pushing Brady out the door, or preferring to pay him market value to be a backup instead of re-signing a Jamie Collins with that cap space and getting an additional 1st round pick on a rookie deal is crazy talk.

Brady has been an anomaly on so many levels throughout his career, but you have to think there is going to be a massive decline coming at some point. Up until the final 6 weeks of 2014, Manning looked like he had lost nothing. In an instant it was gone. I don't think you can plan on Brady for more than 2 years. Then again, maybe Brady will continue to defy any doubter and QB until he's 50. I wouldn't put it passed him.

Sure, which is why you need to keep planning for it & it looked like the timing for passing the torch to Garroppollo looked perfect when he was drafted... But until it happens you don't push Brady out the door. (And Peyton also had some pretty obvious physical decline before he lost effectiveness. He was just so smart he was able to compensate until he got to Shaun Hill level arm strength. Brady's always been a terrible "athlete" but I've seen no drop in arm strength.)

There are two parts of the calculus here. One is the allocation of resources, the other is exactly how good Garroppollo is. He looks great for a backup QB & might be a good long term starter, but he's not a lock like a Jameis Winston or Andrew Luck. I love the media narrative that he's great since it should only potentially increase his trade value, but Matt Cassel put up 30+ points as NE's starter 6x in 15 games... Let's slow our roll off of 1.5 quarters vs the Dolphins & a game we scored 23 points & won on a missed FG.

The Chiefs have looked like a real NFL team for about 2 quarters of the 7 they have played so far this year. They are 1-0 and are close enough to still win this one.

Cousins has decent numbers again, but has been terrible. Easily cost his team a minimum of 10 points and probably 14. He's losing A TON of money with his play thus far. Norman just gave up a huge reception on a 3rd and 11.

Game tied 13-13. 1:32 left in the game. 1st and 10. Giants have the ball at the 1. Saints out of time outs.

Eli Manning takes a knee. Running out the clock to take the FG.

Giants counting on a special teams play to win a game...someone get a cardiologist ready for me.

Edit: Not kicking on 3rd down in case something goes wrong....oh god...

Edit #2: It's good. Phew. With all of the turnovers, feels like the Giants escaped a game they easily should have won by double digits.

The Titans just beat the Lions, but the refs decided otherwise. Clear fumble from Stafford, clear recovery by the Titans. . . they say the whistle blew and it doesn't get reviewed. That was simply a brutal missed call. Stafford then completes a 22 yard pass on 3rd and 19.

Karma hold out as he throws an INT and the Titans get the W. Very clutch pass by Marriotta for the game winning TD on a fourth down play.

Yeah, the refs took it from the Bengals late, but the Bengals didn't play well enough to win. Bodine has got to go or the run game is going nowhere this year. Dalton did his best to keep em in it.

The Broncos get the ball on the opening kickoff. They come out doing exactly what Detroit did. Short throws to wide open receivers. To top it off, the Colts lose yet another CB as Cromartie goes down with an injury.

The Colts can win this game, but it's going to involve their OLine having a terrific game and forcing turnovers. They need both of those things to win the game, not just one.

Yeah, at the time I wrote it, he'd missed one. Just like last week, if you look at the stat line, it looks like he did OK. The reality in both of those games is that he was terrible.

The Broncos QB is doing the same thing today as Cousins. Look at the stat line and he's terrific. In reality, he missed a wide open read that cost Denver points. He threw a horrific INT that was a blown hamstring away from a pic 6, Denver receivers made catches or plays on the ball which took away other potential pics and added to his yardage. . . It's frightening.

The Seahawks offense is now two weeks into looking like pure garbage. They are having their annual shocker against the Rams today. The Rams have outgained them by 20 yards. It's a 3 point game. One Wilson magic drive and they win. . . but I can't believe Seattle isn't simply throttling this tam right now.
